You count up all of those 6th series glossies you have so many of, I bet you have fewer of those than 1st series glossies. And I didn't mean there are more 1st glossies than 4th glossies in absolute numbers, but as a percentage of each series' total numbers. That may or may not be true, I'm just going anecdotally. I remember looking through a box Dan had at a Philly show that was full of nothing but 1st glossies. I stand by my statement that 1st glossies are not that rare, sure it's an imprecise statement, it translates into: I see them all the time.

How about the three tough titles in OS1?  Are they more scarce than the others as glossies?  Or, is it likely that the glossy back stock was used exclusively at the beginning of the run?

I stand by the statement that you didn't answer the question that started this dialogue  by saying they are not rare.  Dan had no more series 1 glossies than i have.  He had three complete and some extras thanks to a find by Pupsi of a yard sale from an ex topps employee.  They are less common than the regular backs, you seem yet to acknowledge that fact.

Great question.  I don't make assertions based on small sample sizes so I hesitate to say this is a rule.  Obviously I have far fewer of the big 4 series 1 titles but I find a higher % of those are found as glossy except for Mutts.  I would write off my Mutts experience to bad luck as there is no logical reason for Mutts to be shorter here.  This does suggest that glossy backs were used in early runs.  Also, I have found like with almost ALL variations, there is geographical indicators in play.  For example, I bought a huge hoard of series 7 stickers from Michigan that contained 30 Grime Heavy's and 3 Dustys.  Since then, I have noticed the trend of Grime Heavy's being sourced in the middle of the country.  Same with series 3 white backs, Kansas, Missouri and surrounding areas seemed to be a heavy source.  Glossy series 1's seem to be NY, NJ, Pa heavy source which perhaps aligns with their only being used in early runs.  Dan's big find of Glossy's were in Pa.....Ludlow backs seem to be east coast, especially Massachusetts but also some bid finds in south east states.  Of course I don't have what I would consider large enough sample sizes for all of the above to be stastically proven out but I am calling out trends.

Imagine if someone came across my series 7 hoard and saw 30 Grime Heavy's....suddenly they are relatively common!!  >:D

What percent of your keepers at is glossy back and how many of those were the ones that were given to you for free from your family friend?

I still don't own Mutts or Bandache but out of the 28 I have, 9 are glossy. (More of the glossys are borderless though..  )
That equates to 32%, they were all given to me by the same person. He almost completed my whole first series except for of course Mutts and Bandache. He also had normal backs as well. I must've had more at one point but I sold off most of my extra 1st cards in an auction a while ago.

Of course, they're significantly less common than the regular backs. That doesn't mean they are rare from my interpretation of that word. Your mileage may vary.

I'm confused...what does the beginning of the run have to do with the four short prints being more or less common?

I was just pondering whether the average percentages of the short prints was the same for glossies as it is for the regular white backs, which could indicate titles were pulled.

I apologize for my lack of extensive historical knowledge.  I missed all the old discovery threads and discussions on the old forums.

Your ratio is not far off from what I called out and your set was comprised of starting with a glossy find rather than from a random distribution of collections so I expected your ratio to be a little higher percent glossy.

Agreed nobody in this thread said they are rare so I'm not really sure what issue you are addressing.  When someone asked how rare something is that doesn't mean they are stating it is rare.  I took the question to mean he was looking for a measure of scarcity.

I didn't understand because there's virtually no way Lavirus, Mutts or Paul Maul were pulled, Band-Ache is always a possibility.

Well I didn't have a precise quantification of their rarity to offer, so I did the only thing I was able to, which was to convey that I didn't feel they were all that rare.

Lol, ... and you stated you thought they were relatively common within some weird arbitrary population of high-grade wacky's.   :P

Yes, I have examined my share of PSA 8,9 and 10 1st series stickers, and my impression was that the glossy backs were a little more common in that realm than they are overall. No actual statistics there, sorry!

A couple of forum members have won or inquired on my auctions.  Just a reminder, prices are friendlier off ebay....I save ebay fees and you get the items at lower prices...win, win....

Click on the link below to see active auctions and also check out my completed auctions as some items didn't see, will be relisted soon unless sold privately.

I have Series 6 8 12 16.  Also have a very unique Series 13 sheet that seems to have been made with transparency stock instead of normal sticker stock.  I probably won't sell the series 13 till I figure out what it is

Very hard to show, I started a thread on this years ago but it went nowhere.  Basically looks like a normal uncut sheet.  A corner of it is pulling away and that is when I noticed the whole sticker image and copyright is on an opaque paper.

It is whiteback stock.  The titles are not diecut.  I have three sheets that seems to be cutting floor samples of some kind of mistake perhaps a transition from tan to white stock coded 483-05-01-4 with a stamp of "enco" stouffer in the lower left corner of each sheet.

Has anybody ever peeled a 13th white back sticker?  Is it possible that they are all printed on this stock?
