I don't think you'll have too many responses for series 1...

Looking back at this now, maybe you could've bought the box of thirds! (Or assumed to be thirds)  :d030:

It's all 63 known fold/ad variations (including the 10th series brown quacker can variations) for series 1-16 unopened packs...with a cloth pack and 2nd Ludlow pack thrown in.

It really bugs me that I'll likely go to my grave not knowing whether an 85-fold 7th series pack with wall poster ad or an 11th green 85-fold pack with 1975 wall poster ad exists...but I guess the world does have bigger problems!

I like the Series 8 Blue pack instead of the easy to find orange.  Years ago I bought a full box of series 8 blue packs, but I stupidly sold it about 5 years ago.  The good news is that is helped put a big dent in the payment for a new in ground pool at my house.  Which is also nice.
Still looking for Series 17

Pack content variations is not my thing .  I can't rationalize chasing oddball wrapper/content combinations as many are a result of Topps throwing together surplus wrappers and surplus wackies, it is kinda like collecting miscuts.  It is somewhat flukey.

Funpack variations, random series in random wrappers.  If the yellow funpacks with the 12th puzzle and the 15th series stickers had consistent content such as 12th sticker as opposed to 15th, does it suddenly become a legit 12th yellow pack?

You raise some good and valid questions here.

If you look at my "unopened pack reference library" thread, you'll see funpacks are the one type of pack I did not address, for the exact reason you cite. There isn't any way to really classify them. I personally view it as the wrapper/checklist combination, but that's my own arbitrary decision.

The term "funpack" isn't even well-defined, because I know for a fact that legitimate 11th series packs (11th yellow wrapper, 11th checklist, two 11th series stickers) have been found in fun bags. So some fun bags just recycled legit regular packs, while others had packs made for fun bags.

There's only been one instance I know of where there was confusion between a funpack and a regular pack. I have seen two types of funpacks involving the 2nd UK wrapper. One contained a 14th series checklist, the other a 2nd UK checkist. I'm pretty sure the latter were still funpacks because some showed stickers not in the 2nd UK set (they appeared to be 8th series stickers). I own one of these that has Kong Fu showing which is a 2nd UK title. So the pack has a 2nd UK wrapper, checklist and sticker showing. But I know it only has one sticker (from weighing) and am pretty sure it's a funpack because of the other similar packs without 2nd UK stickers.

Obviously not everything can be factually nailed down 100%, all we can do is our best.

How did you legitimize the 11th pack?  Have you found a full box of those packs? If not, they are just as likely "funpacks".   The 2nd UK wrapper fun packs is something I hadn't heard of.

Yes, the difficulty in nailing down 100% facts regarding an operation such as Topps whose quality control and consistency have been questioned is why I cautioned you of referring to one website as having more speculation than the other. We already see that potentially these "books" that you wanted credit for the info being printed that you suggested permissions might be needed to reproduce educational content are already potentially obsolete as new information, corrections and conclusions are drawn daily.

Some day I will proof read all of those links and will call out more typos, corrections, and speculations to help move this along.  Then maybe I will print my book - void of the credits and poor man copyrights :-)

I'm not sure what you mean. The yellow wrapper coded 0-478-85-01-4 was created specifically for the 11th series, and the code matches the 11th series box code. I'd say that makes these packs 11th series packs in every possible way.

Orange is easier to find? I only have two OS packs that I've opened. 7th blue 21 fold, and 8th blue 85 fold.

8th Orange is much more common. But where did you get the 8th blue? And did the wrapper have the wall poster ad, or no ad?

The exact reason I do not care to cement any of this on paper or in any "book". Leave it out in cyberspace to be updated as needed, so I can always have the latest info.

Mark, since you seem interested in this, I will open an 8th blue pack so you can get an idea of what a legit pack is like.

Wrapper should not have any folds or creases in non-fold areas.

For 85-fold pack, bottom wrapper fold should overlay top fold.

Other than series containing white backs, puzzle piece should always be against the seal (facing either way).

Both stickers should have same number of asterisks, and should not have handling wear, though of course corners may be dinged. I opened a 1973 baseball pack once and the cards had pencil writing on them! Bad sign!

With certain rare exceptions, stickers should follow knight's move pattern, as shown on 8th sheet.

Damn, the Canadian Clod has perfect corners and nice centering, too bad it has a roller mark.
