I prefer to make predictions based on no actual polling data. I find it more exciting than posting info based on exhaustive public research.
I applaud Bigtomi for his willingness to disagree and say MLB fans will not buy this release without polling data ; based on his actual gut feeling.

OK, I have a similar gut feeling to bigtomi's. I just don't want to come across as negative and as trying to undermine the success of  this release. I wish this release great success, but I doubt that sports collectors will be interested.

Andrew,

Sorry for the slow response to your post, just too many threads to catch up on! With regards to the MLB Wacky set, I really don't have any new information, just what's been posted already on Beckett. But if I hear anything new, I'll certainly post it here!

Happy 2016!

I believe it's the sales numbers. The hardcore fans are getting older and the kids have a bazillion other things to collect so the marketplace is saturated.

There will be new sets but not two a year. I think there will be a tie-in set or themed set and hopefully a regular set. Also there will be internet exclusives.
It's being worked out now I hear.

That's not good but expected based on what i've seen over the past year. Prices have dropped almost in half for everything and the market is completely saturated. Demand therefore is way down and things just aren't selling well at retail, despite the retail exclusives. It's been a long run but i imagine things are tapering down for good reason.

I am curious what the online exclusives are for the year, WP collectors have been very lucky with the binders and l/e sketch cards to name a few (besides all the great postcards). I see that comics aren't as well received as the latter, so is it safe to assume it will probably be postcards again?

looking forward to what this year brings. Thanks to all the artists for all your hard work. Let's hope Topps makes good decisions this year with the final sets coming out.

I couldn't help but notice that Topps has tweaked its Online Store page, and I think it's showing promise
there should be some new Wacky sets down the road.

The Wacky MLB is getting a good push and let's hope it does very well, to encourage
Topps to keep doing what it does best, Wackies!

Let's hope for Topps' sake that Wackys are not what they do best...

In the latest issue of Non-Sport Update, the enclosed pricing guide has a picture of, among other cards, the Cubs promo for the upcoming MLB Wackys.  There is also an article in the issue about 2016 releases for nonsports cards and the MLB Wackys are listed.  Neither of these things is hardly worth mentioning, but there ya go anyway.  Also, the issue says that there will be an article about the set in the next issue of NSU.  Unfortunately, it says nothing about including a promo card for the set, but I hope there is one (usually they're pretty good about saying what promos will be included in the next issue, so there probably won't be).

Cool!  Though I wasn't overly excited about this series, I am warming up a bit more.  I'll certainly get a set and, if there are some worthwhile bells and whistles, more than that.

Has anyone asked (or cared to ask) the question of were MLB Wacky Packages fit in the sports/non-sports categories.  I just found this Sports Card Release Calendar which includes 'em:

odd that they'd have Star Wars in that list. seems like a mistake.

yeah. not sure what these are. guess they're cross-platform.
they show up on non-sport too. http://www.nonsportupdate.com/upcomingreleases.htm
double the exposure? or creating confusion?

March 9th isn't too far away.  I'm kinda surprised there haven't been any pre-orders for boxes, sets, etc on ebay.

"voluminous" That's a great word, I'll be using that one! ;-)

Breaking 13 Collector Cases and 2 Hobby Cases. A bit less than we broke with the last GPK.

We all should be excited, it's a new set of Wackies, even if it is baseball-related!

The set looks very promising, let's hope it sells well.

This set contains: Active Player Autographs, Stadium Seat Relics and Game Ticket relics. Will these resell for the same amount that the same cards would sell for if they were found in MLB Packs...or will they sell for WP type prices; which are alot less?  There are alot of unknowns here. Time will tell. I guess it will also depend on the player involved and how famous the game or venue the seat/ ticket fragment are from. I can see a popular player Auto card which would cost $18 in the WP world selling for $100 if it is viewed as a MLB card. We will find out soon.

I agree with that thinking - that might make this release a little more "valuable" it will transcend the Wacky world even for collectors... :o :o :o

It looks like MLB Wacky Packages have hit EBay.  There's two Gold cards for sale and a green Ludlow back (did we know about those?).  Also 4 of those amazing Sketch templates by Neil Camera!
