All Things 79-80 Reissue
« on: October 13, 2015, 08:20:33 PM »
Mainly just entertaining myself here as I realize the 79-80 reissue are considered swill to most......but......

I just purchased a lot of around 700 series 3 stickers that look to be maybe the cleanest I have ever seen. They appear to have been stored since new and the back story supports it. I'm very excited to see them. Supremely white edges and sharp corners in the pics anyway.

Nice series 3 sheet Brad! I don't have room to display my set of sheets.

I was looking at my Reissue Series 1 sheet the other day and noticed it has really faded badly.  I am probably looking to buy another one.  One thing about that 1st reissue series is that there are tons of great original titles in there.  It's like a Wacky greatest hits!
Giving "The Hobby" the finger since 1999!

Plus you can still get them cheap. All i need now is a reissue 2nd series sheet.

I just cracked the 25% complete mark for my PSA Reissue run! lol

I try to get them as inexpensively as possible so that's why its taking forever lol.

Here is the latest batch , 1 PSA8, 8 PSA9 and 2 PSA10

Plus I created this large checklist sheet so as I add new ones I can fill in the box just like I did when collecting the stickers as a kid lol....

For my PSA OS1-16 checklist, I photocopied the pages from "The Beat Goes On."  I can write the grade next to it, and make a note if I want to upgrade a particular sticker for some reason.

What do you usually end up paying for the PSA reissues?

I don't cringe, I like re-issues and was still buying when they came out. I've been investing a fair amount of effort in obtaining mint ones, but I can't see going for PSAs due to space and the cost of getting them graded vs. post-grading value. But I like 'em!

One of the nice things about the PSA set registry is you can use it as a checklist, including writing comments if you want. You don't have to publish it publicly if you don't want to.

Set registry? Hmm. I may have to check into that and register or whatever I need to do. Does it cost to post your sets?

Set registry is completely free...and there are others who think like you do....

The only registry sets I've looked at up until now were yours, and I thought I needed scans of each item to use the registry, which is a lot of time.  But, looks like I don't need to do that first, which makes it a lot more attractive!

No, you don't need scans at all. I like including scans for several reasons:

1. It's a way to enjoy my stuff without having to handle it
2. I like to look at other people's scans
3. I don't like the idea of collecting PSA grades, we're collecting wackys and I like that to be seen

I agree wholeheartedly with your reasons, and will want to eventually add scans.  But, it's nice to know I can start the list first.  My current computer setup is pathetic, and at the moment, scanning and then posting is a true chore.

Have some vacation time, so I am going through my re-issue sets, integrating several complete sets I've acquired this year. One thing is becoming clear for the first series...Bustedfinger is the toughest title to find centered. I have about 10 otherwise perfect copies, but they are all either miscut or very OC toward the bottom of the card (held vertically). I checked the PSA Population and while no reissues are heavily submitted, there is only 1 graded Bustedfinger...an 8.

I grabbed 1 series 1 reissue set before they packed it all up. I needed something to thumb through and look at to keep my sanity. Other than that....I have about 100 singles I just picked up on Ebay.

The funny thing is ...neither did I lol. I completely forgot that I had attempted to list the ones I had and then lost interest because I had so few at that time. I was looking through my password sheet and saw PSA and then realized I must have registered at some point. I just logged in and refreshed the sets. I have a stack of PSA's I will add when I get back into the house.
I'm thinking about also actually buying one of there packages and sending in my own to be graded. That way I can send in the ones I need.
I'm still looking for a PSA 10 Ice Krunkles too. I'm pretty sure I don't have one. I have about 8 or 9 of them graded but I think the highest is a 9.

That's the problem, every time you submit a re-issue and don't get a 10 you lose money. I can see doing it as a labor of love, but it's a money losing proposition.

Yeah I don't care about the money part. I also am not hung up on all 10's. I prefer 9's but If its an 8 or better I'm fine. I do want to try for a PSA 10 Ice Krunkles but that's it.

I'm looking at a Jail-O 79 test sticker on Ebay that Tedjeffrey has up for sale. Can someone that look and confirm that it is absolutely a 79 test sticker please?

I'm trying to get his price down to a more reasonable level but I want to be sure its a legit test sticker before I decide to pull the trigger.

I just wanted one example of the sticker and one wrapper to add to the Reissue Museum.

It is a 1979 test sticker, the upper left and lower right corners come to a sharp point as opposed to the rounded corners of the normal Jail-O.

Low supply but low demand on these so tough to say what they are worth.  HE has had it for sale for at least 4 months assuming this hasn't been relisted over and over too.  Doesn't he mostly sell on consignment?  Try to find who actually owns this and cut a direct deal.

ok thank you. Yes, the low supply plus low demand does create an odd situation for determining market value

I ran into this when I purchased the reissue shipping boxes from another long time collector....very hard to value

price is a tough call
As a data point for you, 4 years ago I did win a complete Test 'pack' (a wrapper + 5 stickers) off eBay for a little less than the current auction price for just that one Jail-O.
Maybe I got really lucky that there wasn't a bidding war that day, as I really thought it would go for a lot more than it did.
