Special Series Ideas
« on: August 25, 2015, 12:16:45 PM »
I've noticed Topps like reprinting classic 70's titles. I've thought a great idea would be to create a special series combining 70's titles with one of Topps recent ideas. A series of Wonkie Packages, Where Are They Nows? or coupons - reprint on one side of card, Wonkie Package Where Are They Now? or coupon (ANS style coupons, but with 70's titles) on other side. Another idea - Olds2 subset Original Concepts would make a great series - original concept on one side, final painting on the other side. Checklist /Puzzle cards could be an option too. any thoughts? ;) 8)

Topps really has no clue how to handle and execute stuff flawless- except go back and dig up Norm Sunders classics and reprint them.

How about WACKY PACKAGES LOST AND FOUND featuring lost Wacky Packages stickers based on 1970's roughs done by Jay Lynch and Bill Griffith?

That's what the Chrome series "Cutting Room Floor" subset was about.

How about a combination of classic Wackies and the Topps "Who Am I?" series concept?  These would be scratch-offs of say, 99 original Wackies (a multiple of 9 so everything fits evenly into 9-pocket Ultra Pros), except to make it interesting the characters would be drawn by various artists and therefore would not be identical to the original Norm Saunders creations.....more akin to a color sketch card that had some real thought and effort put into it.

True collectors would want two sets: one unscratched and one scratched.

That would be my Original Concepts idea. Titles that did not get past the roughs stage but they finished off like they did with the Old School series 2 subset.

Marc, this is a great idea.  Both original and classic at the same time.  It would be great to see these as chase cards in retail packs with short odds (1:6).  This way collectors could hunt for them in the wild but they wouldn't have too much interest to pack searchers.

If they should decide to do a Wonky Packages series, some ideas - Beakies (Weakies), Capt. Mud (Capt. Crud) Buzzard (Buz Detergent), Chimps (Chumps), Bootsie Roll (Footsie Roll), Free Tounges (Free Toes), Blue Genie (Blue Beanie) Bricks (Tricks), Mutton (Glutton) Oh Baldy (Oh Hairy), Tidal (Tied), Creepios (Cheepios), Mtn. Goon (Mtn. Goo), Gupsie (Pupsie), Saddle Caps (Battle Caps).
