Monster Series Regular Trading Card set (and more!)
« on: July 19, 2015, 08:53:13 AM »
Following up on a recent inquiry that Brad made, I thought I would post here and get an informal show of hands to see how much interest there might be for a printed Monster card trading set. The idea would be to take some of the "best of" from previous Monster card sets (plus some new art of course) and make a 55 card set. I'd probably want to make this a "real" release with boxes, wrappers, chase cards, etc. so it would take some considerable capitol. Anyway, this seems like a good place to start and if it generates enough interest, I might take this to kickstarter (or a similar outlet).

Is there enough interest (and money) from people to make this happen?

Neil,

Can you put some pics of previous Monster Sketch offerings in this thread to give us a reminder of what they look like?

This sounds cool. Pics would help stir interest.

Thanks,  Andrew

Just put up a poll to gauge interest. Please take a minute and let me know what you think!

THANKS!

If this is what the SKETCH cards look like... I cant wait to see some of the Printed products!!!  I'm even curious what monsters or types of monsters people would most like to see drawn by these artists.  Vintage 'recognizable' monsters or all original characters?

We all have our favorites... I'm a big, Hairy, Gorilla fan... so anything close to Kong or POTA or some classic 'Jungle Terror' ape escorting a beautiful pin up off on a date will be most appreciated.

Joe, really liking your dino/godzilla/welch  sketches in these sets. I think a mixture of classic monster and new stuff in each set is great. Maybe 2 classics and 5 new beasties per set would hit a nice balance.

Thanks a monsterous lot! We 'Monsters' artists are feeling around for what this sketch card series could evolve into. We are fans of the retro / classics but also the tongue in cheek 'whimsy' that our favorite sticker sets seem to have in common... the more input from everyone the better!

Well Joe here's a suggestion that's a bit of a classic.  How about adding gag lines to the front of the cards and jokes on the back ala the awesome 1973 Creature Features set.

How about a Monster/Horror Set, with a "Whimsy" sub-set? Maybe other subsets also...air/land/sea? Holiday themed subs? Damsels in distress?  WAX WRAPPERS!    pass on the gum!  9 panel monster themed comic?  I am, and always will be a classic Monster lover, but new arrivals are welcome!

That's a great idea Jim and one which we've been discussing lately. The next set should incorporate at least some new ideas to make it more appealing to more monster fans.
