Gags look good. Logo Patch Cards will be cool. Wardrobe Swatch cards are a funny idea. Wood cards are intriguing but no pics of those could be seen in the write up. Panoramic sketch cards have promise.   No mention of Lost Wackies this time around. I look forward to this release.

Looks basically the same formula as 2014 S1, which was okay. But I really miss the black canvas cards and bummed we are still being shorted a hit in the collectors packs.

Early art is mostly looking good, but I'm seriously disappointed to see JungHwa Im in the mix again. Hopefully JunngHwa doesn't have a majority of the pieces like last year, because I find the art depressingly subpar compared to everyone else's work and it really brings down the quality of the releases.

Bring back George Wright!!  His artwork in OLDS4 was amazing.

Aside from Dave's pieces being standouts, I'm not that studied on the artwork credits in terms of who did what, but from this sampling the Froot Loops, Frosted Flakes and Chock F.O.N. parodies are disappointing.  Not bad work when thinking out of context, but for Wackies they do look subpar.  One of the recent ANS series, not sure which, I'd have to go back and check to refresh my memory, seemed similarly affected in a big way.

The repetitive nature does again raise the question of whether C&D issues still arise and cause limitations.  I would tend to agree with those here who have stated that being parodied today is far more welcome by the majority of product manufacturers as a sort of honor or distinction compared with the mentality of bygone days, but then why go back to the well nearly every series on products like Froot Loops and Dunkin' Donuts?  At least they're visually appealing and colorful products though.  Maybe there's just a million ways to spoof the title in these cases.

I'm not a big fan of the plethora of back/border variations.  I'll probably just buy a base set from eBay.

One of the entries that may be part of the CRAZY COLLECTIBLE FAD subset could have been perfect if there was a Old School 1990's Wacky Packages series.

I'm with you there.  I've gone back to the minimalist approach for the last few series now.  Works for me.

I do a second base set made up of all the different borders. This makes it pretty easy to assemble the set. I buy a few collector boxes and trade for a few of the retail only background cards.

I couldn't help but note that the Big League Chew parody is using a packaging design and character mascot illustration they retired just over 20 years ago.  Unless that's some 1980's Old School subset that I missed...

Wasn't there a Forum thread a while back on which actual product titles have been most often parodied?  Pepsi seems to come to mind.

Too bad pharmacueticals couldn't be included among the parodies.  Could do Viagra, Cialis, and Levitra as follows:

Vi-Sag-Ra

See-Al-Limp

Le-Vi-Droop

What about Rogaine? I know the planned but cancelled Star Wars Wacky Packages series had planned a Rogaine spoof called Logaine!

Besides FOREST RANGERS, here are my predictions for the CRAZY COLLECTIBLES subset for Wacky Packages 2015 for what could be spoofed:
Rubik's Cube
Beanie Babies
Pokemon Trading Card Game
Wham-O Frisbee
Wham-O Super Ball
Star Wars Action Figure (Whether or not Topps can settle the Star Wars dispute over not releasing Star Wars Wacky Packages last year)
...and, how about the never released Garbage Pail Kid doll entry showing up in this subset? Even do new artwork based on the Jay Lynch Puke-Man rough and the David Gross Whacked Out Wobbler bobble head doll also for this subset?

And I wonder if the COMING SOON subset is sort of like that COMING ATTRACTIONS subset of movie poster parodies seen in Wacky Packages ANS11 (I hope there's a COMING SOON poster in this 2015 COMING SOON subset spoofing the Fall 2015 Peanuts Movie and/or - also if Topps settles the Star Wars Wacky Package grudge - a COMING SOON poster spoofing the December 2015 Star Wars Episode 7 movie)

what dispute? what grudge? there isn't one. Topps continues to pump out Star Wars items every few weeks it seems.
The SW-WP series was a terrible idea, with really poor to mediocre execution displayed in the prelim art.
No one pre-ordered it, and it was DOA because it was clearly going to be a big $$ loss.

I'm not that studied on the artwork credits in terms of who did what...
you should check out the Master Lists for the past 3 series and compare the cards to the artists listed. It's a fun study and you can really start to see the style and characteristics that each of the artists bring to the sets.

To me though, to go back to my earlier statement, I feel that JungHwa Im is single-handedly destroying the Wacky brand. If there were only a handful of pieces per series I wouldn't be on a rant, but JungHwa Im did almost 50% of the base set for both 2014 (21 pieces) and ANS 11 (19 pieces), and I find most of them unfit for inclusion in the sets.
The art consistently lacks precision and any sense of realism. Perspective is usually poor, the lettering is never crisp, the characters are typically simple 2-dimensional cartoonish figures, and cylindrical objects are consistently out-of-round and just awful in their execution.
Chock Full o' Newts is a prime example of everything I mention above - looks like a color rough and not finished art.
I don't know if it's actually a JungHwa Im piece, but it certainly has all the traits.
Perspective?, characters? and cylindrical shape? - poor, poor, poor.  Look at that can lid!! I cringe at its ineptness.

Thanks for clarifying your concerns with concrete input. Your earlier dispargement of the artist in question seemed harsh to me and I felt for the guy if he happened to read your comments. Now that you have provided your full rationale this is a different story. Hopefully he will happen upon this input and it could provide some impetus for him to raise his game....if he has that capability.

A VERY interesting point was made, and remember, each artist is just that, and artist.... that being said..... If you go back and look at the Originals, die cuts and Wacky Ads and Wacky Plaques - Crisp tight artwork....... the quality look/feel has become a bit cartoonish for many of the newer cards, very busy sometimes compared to the "Classics"

Just my two.......

I have to agree, I find the JungHwa Im Wackys disappointing.  Perspective often seems off, and there's not much depth to the art.

Examples:

ANS11 -  Pimply Orange.  Compare that to Raisin Brawn or Ding Kongs for depth and detail.

Wacky 2014 - Bubble Tapeworm, Poop Tarts, Slip 'n Slice.  Compare to Furbeast, Catburglar Helper, and Bopsicle.

I'd love to weigh in more on this topic, but honestly, it might come off as biased...

I will say this: Norm Saunders set the bar incredibly high, and it's nearly impossible to fill his shoes. But I can think of a couple of artists that come as close as you could expect (I'll leave that to others to interpret). In any event, if Norm were still with us, I'd love to hear his take on the current crop of aspiring Wacky artists...

Maybe the IM dude and the others that did the ANS sketches need to go to the Neil Camara school of WACKY Artistry!!! "It does an artist good!!" Just sayin!! I could not AGREE More with F&S - his perspective is dead on!! I hope those same pecentages don't exist for WP S1 2015....my guess is they might!! where's Brent, Parisi, Smokin' Joe, George Wright...etc...need them back!!
This will probably raise the value of their sketches as time goes on!!  :] :] :] :] :]

Thank God - Catburglar was the puzzle back - you can see the depth of the artist there as well...up close...I think we need Trump to tell someone "Your F***d"!!

omg. no way. Dave's art has far more realism than that (where are the blades of grass?) and paints water in a very distinct manner that's definitely not evident here.
all the artist's names for the base cards are listed in the Master Lists for ANS10, ANS11 and the 2014s
they were all identified by the artist autograph cards - just like the slip and slice below.

Absolutely, Norm Saunders set the bar high.  I rarely post negative stuff about new art since I don't want to offend the artist, but at some point we have to speak up, or possibly watch the demise of the Wackys we so enjoy.  I'm hopeful that this criticism will be accepted in a way that results in better Wackys, and a longer life for the series.
