A question about the cancelled Star Wars Wacky Packages series
« on: January 17, 2015, 05:30:46 PM »
We know in the 1970's Topps received many C&D letters from companies like Kellogg's and General Mills and Pepsi to stop parodying their products in the Wacky Packages sticker series (although by the time of the since 2004 ANS revival those C&D letters were old news and with luck the Kellogg's and General Mills and Pepsi products got parodied over and over again ever since in many series), do you think Topps' reason to cancel the planned for September 2014 Star Wars Wacky Packages series was caused by a C&D letter from Lucasfilm and/or Disney?

Pretty sure it was caused by nobody wanting it.

For an entire themed series I'm sure Topps would have secured Lucasfilms' agreement on the basic concept before going any further.

It's 100% in Disney hands now after Lucas sold off the entire property to them. He's got no say anymore, for good or ill.

And it doesn't mean Disney made a C&D for Topps never to do anything related to Disney owned Star Wars and Marvel Comics properties anymore. We wouldn't even see 1990's Disney spoofed Lost Wackys of DejaVu Master Sickey Mouse Viewer, Bimbo, Bucktales, and Little Barmaid get released in sticker form by Topps in a future ANS in a Lost Wacky 3 sticker subset.
