Author Topic: OS 17th Sketch Card Title Roundup (Read 32657 times)

I received my "Original Series 17" Stickers Collector Binder yesterday. It included one Sketch Card. The front reads
"Wacky Packages 17th Series Sketch Card" The title is Old Mold Wilters Cigarettes. Joe Simko is the Artist.
The binder shows "Old Mold Filthers" so I think the actual gag is Old Mold Filthers and Joe used "Wilters" instead.
I count about 24 different characters or scenes on the binder. It will be interesting to see what titles people get
with their binders. Will there be a separate 17th Series Stickers Set released? Maybe the only Series 17th Cards
are the sketch Cards and there are only about 75 of them out there or about three per title? Either way it is
pretty cool to have a Series 17th Card in my hands. Maybe now an artist can shed some light on this topic? Time will tell.

The other card posted so far is Nyt Owl with art by Fred Wheaton. That title character is also shown on the binder but
no product name is shown on the binder.

my guess is Nyt Owl is the product, maybe a take on Ny-Quil?

I concur Nyt Owl is the product. I meant it was not named on the art the Old Mold was. It will be interesting to see if multiples
of the same title turn up. So far six Sketches were pulled with six different titles. I take it "Footsie" is not the same parody as "Footsie Roll"

Nytol is the actual product for Nyt-owl.

All the gags came from some unused roughs they found. Some of them were very very rough so there was some major reworking.

I think most of them were from Bhob Stewart so it's a good tribute to him.

Dave, Thanks for the insight. Will we see a sticker set for this release or is it just the sketch cards and the binder? Is each title done more than once and by different Artists?

What was the lineup of Original Series 17 stickers that could have been? Was this planned for 1977-1978 release? I think I learned 5 of them: Old Mold, Nyt-Owl, Pixie (from the binder), Talking Foo-Master 9from the binder but with backwards writing), and some D-Zerta spoof.

The binder even shows spoofs of images spoofing Boo Berry cereal, Star-Kist Tuna, and Hostess Ho-Ho's.

Maybe this Original Series 17 stickers with redone art could be part of the upcoming Wacky Packages Old School 5 series as a special subset (33 Original series 17 stickers plus 30 or 33 Old School Series 5 stickers - 66 stickers total of all mostly 1970's products Wacky Packages style in the biggest set ever!).

How many gags are there on the binder? I count 23 or 24. Eleven on the front and 12 or 13 on the back (are the explosion and garbage can separate gags?).

Interesting that Topps didn't include a checklist/list of all of the names of the parodies. We're having to discover these ourselves as the sketch cards get posted! But not every card has a title - I think we've given the name of pixie cups from our own guesses?

Mine just showed up. That is only 2 days shipping to Colorado. That's amazing. Love the Simko sketch. Not as good as a color but still really nice. The foo master was the first image on the binder that caught my eye before seeing the sketch.
