Cool BumChex! I'm glad it went to a happy home and thanks for the heads up!  :great:

I think its a fun piece and you did great! I actually didn't start collecting color sketches until around OLDS3 because I couldn't pass on the high prices they were fetching. Now I have a bunch once the prices have come down to earth. When OLDS1 sketches were fetching $1600 each things were really crazy. I even paid $1000 for a Wheaton Creep B&W ANS7 because the sketches were impossible to pull. That was the craziest I have ever gotten on sketches.

Yes but that was the first ANS series to have sketches and before the days of the pack searchers.  In those days dealers were buying thousands of packs to pull sketches and the cheapest sketches were hundreds of dollars!  In a sense they really couldn't afford to sell them for less.  If a pack searcher gets $25 for a sketch, it's still a profit.

I am now the proud owner of your first color return. I'm surprised it went so low. The sketch market prices have been dropping lately as a couple collectors have been MIA. It is also the summer and people are busy.

They seem to have done a lot of colored sketch cards for the regular release, and that on top of the over-saturation of sketch cards in general with all series have dropped the prices considerably.

That nice Dustin Graham colored sketch that Dustin posted as an example was mine, and it only sold for 20 bucks!  The problem is that these results were seeing now are also affecting the value of the sketches done in the past.  I'm glad I decided a while back not to pay crazy prices for colored sketches and stick to B&W's, but even the value of B&W's have taken a serious hit.

I’m still perplexed by the motivation to include sketches in the regular PC sets.

Did they produce a lot more regular PC sets this time and was including sketches in the RE set an attempt to get collectors to buy both RE and LE sets?

Deciding to make the RE sketches different than the LE sketches was also a very interesting decision.

I don't know but my guess is that they used it as an incentive to sell more Regular sets.  The Limited sets always sell out so I don't think they were worried about that, especially with only 350 sets.  They produce a higher quantity of regular sets so it takes a lot longer to sell out.

I kind of thought that the regular sets were originally available so that collectors who missed out on (a lot of people got left out of series 1) or couldn't afford the LE set could still get the Wacky titles, but perhaps I was being naive.  Now, certainly, they're a separate item entirely.

That is sad. That would probably have been one of my auctions as well. I don't collect sketches for future value although it would be nice to know there will be a future value. I just got home from a biz trip and got in 4 packages all with sketches. I paid a hell of a lot more than $20 each for them but these are the ones I want for my own collection. They may never be worth anything. Also, keep in mind that few of the big sketch collectors don't care about PC or ANS characters. They want OS stuff.
I see so many sketches on ebay with $200+ BIN and they are still there after months. I actually love it and I hope the current trend continues because if there is something you really like you will be able to get it for a good price. The caveat is when I have to sell a sketch I don't want it to sell cheap. It's a total catch 22.
Remember people, it's also July and not too many people are sitting around watching ebay. Its summer. You are better off waiting a bit to auction stuff.

I'm still confused why it sold so cheap. People were sleeping.

Or, people were so tapped out buying other stuff that they couldn't swing this too.
