Wow, you're getting close!  I know of a few others who are going for full sets as well.  I gave up when series 9 came out.

Are you just doing the golds or are you doing cloths and ludlows as well?

Golds have been more plentiful with the collector cases. This is a bit easier than in the past.

I have a full set of cloths and black ludlows as crazy as it sounds I am going to try to do both variations of the black ludlows. I have quite a few now.  The only problem with that is you get a whole bunch of duplicates.

A "bit" easier yes, but still a major investment @ 2/case.

I'd really like to have a full set of cloths at some point.  They are definitely cool.  I just wasn't willing to spend thousands on the rare subsets.  Maybe a cheap set will show up down the road a while.

These rare subsets can't be collected as an investment because they depreciate like a new car!

I was averaging about 3-4 per case. Plus most of them have dropped into the $40 range or less since most collectors have finished their sets. It was expensive initially but now you probably could do it fairly cheap if you consider $40 a card cheap. I got my Reepers gold so that's all I need.

You can pick up cloths for under 10 dollars and black ludlows also under 10 dollars certain ones will demand a premium unless you are patient then all will be inexpensive.  I've been periodically picking up red ludlows for under 30 dollars.  The ones that are hard to get are printing plates.  Everyone says that they hate them however the majority of them sell for over 50 dollars.  Also those autograph cards Those sell for a pretty penny also.  (I would venture to guess because there are only 4 sets plates and 15 sets of autographs). I can' t remember how many sets of gold, cloth nod the ludlows there are.

I agree that they have dropped down in price, but even at $40.00 each that's still $2,200.00 for a full set.  The other issue is the same quandary completists have.........if you wait a couple months for prices to drop (like now), it may be too late to get them all.  If you get aggressive right away you'll probably complete the set, but you'll own it at a price that will depreciate rapidly.

The odds for the red luds were twice as tough as the golds, right?

Cloths have dropped to where you could buy many in the $6-10.00 range, but do you think you could get a full set starting from scratch now?  i would be more inclined to find a set already assembled.  Plus when you are purchasing individual cards over and over you get nickel & dimed by the postage, and that needs to be factored into the total cost.

I just did a search and there are 2 complete sets on ebay, one for $2,000.00 and the other for $2,500.00 (both dealers).  That's $28.00 each for the $2,000.00 set, which to me is too high.  If the average price has dropped to $10.00 each, a full set should be @ $750.00, no?

I see people selling cloths based upon 9.95 each just pick the ones you want.  I saw a set of 48 sell for about 450.00.  To me the hunt is the fun part then the trading makes it more enjoyable.  I would never buy a full completed set,  there is no fun in buying a full set, also you don' t get to interact with you fellow collectors if you buy it in one fell swoop.  I have been still buying golds from flashbacks as they come available.  As I said before I am a patient person.
