New "Wonky Packages" cards (spoilers)
« on: April 06, 2013, 04:36:22 AM »

I think the Wonky Packages are kind of cool.  My understanding is that Old School doesn't include parodies of 70's products that were done in the original series; these appeal to me as a re-imagining of how the Wacky title and gag could have turned out.  That being said, the marketing method of linking them to multiple comic book purchases left a lot to be desired, and likely turned a lot of collectors off.  I think they they might have been better received as a sticker insert set in Old School 5.

Thanks for posting these!

Some of the images members are posting are giant. This one, 1280 x 1750, on my system, is enormous. I can hear my computer is spinning as it tries to load it. I can only view the top two titles and a tiny strip of the bottom row when I click on the image. I've tried it a few times now. Did Brad change the forum's upload software?!

I love Brutal Soap Pads. I was joking with my boss yesterday about the fact brass knuckles are illegal. It seems an archaic law. When you purchase brass knuckles on Amazon, they are sold as "paperweights" or "belt buckles". I guess that's a legal loophole.

Glad you like 'em Pat! They seemed like a nice tie-in to April Fools Day. So, here's the thing: the Wonky Packages were meant to be a fun (and free) extra in the April Comic. Not necessarily chase cards, but promo cards. That being said, I hope everyone enjoys them, whether they got one or all four.

Please excuse me for being redundant, but is anyone else having trouble viewing some of these very large images that have been posted recently? In the sketch threads also

maybe it's just me and my machine

I couldn't even see the top half of the first 2 so you are way ahead of me.

Did you work on them?  Brutal is my favorite, love those brass knuckles.

I'm glad Topps continues to produce new Wackys!  I do understand the "free extra" idea, and usually buy extra comics anyway, so getting all 4 Wonkys wasn't a problem for me.  I just hope that this kind of promotion doesn't turn off too many people.

My anti virus software has been blocking all the images from opening the last few weeks. I have to turn it off to open images here.

I like the idea of wonky packages a lot, which are basically parodies of wackys, not of the original merchandise. I actually thought it would be cool to do parodies of wackys years ago. I am not a big fan of gurgle or brittle so I wish cooler titles were selected to parody, but they are cool anyway.

I find it interesting that all 4 titles are series 2.

Nice job on these Neil! Great idea to parody some original Wackys and wonderful execution. I hadn't bought the last couple comics, but bought 3 of the April Fool's issue just to get the Wonky Packages. Pat's idea of making stickers of these or other Wonky Packages is very appealing. I'd love to see more, especially as a subset to a series.

I hear ya! If we do any more in the future, maybe they're promoted differently? We'll just have to wait and see...

I've had the same problem. My virus software is targeting the image hosting site as dangerous, so it's blocking all the pics. Only happens on my win7 machine, not my xp laptop at home.

I'n not posting a pic of that one... somehow my inner-child finds SCREACH "kinda naughty" but Ovary Show seems a bit over the top.

Does anyone have good scans of these original Wonkys? I can't seem to find them anywhere online.
