Halloween Postcard 2012 Sketches - Spoilers!
« on: October 18, 2012, 09:28:01 AM »
I enjoy the threads where people post their sketches, so I thought I'd start this off with a preview of some of mine and my returns to hold everyone over while they wait for their sets...

My returns:

Even though it's not in color, I really like the Creature one.  What a great character!  I don't think I ever saw any of the Creature's movies, but I've always liked the character.

These are great! Thanks for posting. Love the detail. Noticed the smiley in that Plots eye :)  I too love the Creature, and hope to get one of those.

Thanks guys! The bottom four are the returns. They're all painted in acrylic. While not as fancy as the color ones, I think the other ones have a cool b&w movie look.

Very nice work Mark. I am also jumping aboard the Lagoon Creature band-wagon. Very nice indeed!

Those are sketch blanks that the artists get to do whatever sketches they want and then sell them in the open market.  It's a way for the artists to make some decent money for all the time they spend doing the sketches.  Most will do colored ones since that yields the best return, and they are often some of the best sketches they'll do.

And, in the case of postcard sets where the sketches are numbered, the returns are distinguishable by checking the back of the card for a sketch number.

Aren't the postcard return cards unnumbered and say "return card" on the back where the # would normally be?

I've seen "Artist Return" in that space, but don't know if different artists mark them differently.  I just figure that the lack of a number means it's a return card.

Pat, the return cards all say "Artist Proof" on back.

I'll have to look when I get home but weren't the last couple PC sets not numbered other than the the certificate?

Yes, series 7 and 8 don't have anyplace for writing on the sketch card backs.  So, for those I don't think there's a way to distinguish a return.

Thanks!  Looks to be a really interesting comic!  Are all your sketches part of the comic, like last year with Jay Lynch?  Or, are there others?

I haven't seen the comic yet so seeing these for the first time is fantastic. Joe, you do have amazing talent and humor. I can't wait until Wed when my PCs arrive.

Yep, just like last years. All my sketch cards are used for the comic. There is however, additional artwork created for fun gags and images that are in the book but not part of the comic story.

Hey, this looks like it could be one of Neil's "themed mini-sets" of sketch cards. Keep an eye out for other election related sketches. I really  like his baseball themed sketches from last Halloween.

Here are my three pulls - I'm not sure who did each of these:

Jason Liebig - A swell TV host (currently on History Channel) who used to oversee Marvel Comics' X-Men - now creator and curator of WishbookWeb.com and CollectingCandy.com, a celebration of candy packaging, marketing and the people behind it all

I thought that was Mark, but wasn't sure.  Neil was the one I was sure of.  And the middle remains a mystery.

I gotta say, I love the packaging and presentation on the LE set.  Coffin pocket folder and coffin-shaped postcards is VERY fun!

I thought you guys would like it! It was a lot of fun to design (sarcasm) but I'm really happy with the way it turned out.
