Author Topic: Old School 3 Very Dark tan back sticker thread (Read 12492 times)

Out of my initial six boxes of OLDS3 I spotted one very dark tan-backed sticker. My wife said: "I wonder if they made one sheet dark just to see if anyone notices." I busted up laughing! I think she may be onto something.

So I've started this thread for us to track these stickers. Rabid Shaver has one of these which is also a Charredstone Chew. Bandaches and Bigmuc13 have these stickers but I have not yet seen which they are (please post yours when you get a chance).

Here's a snapshot of my Charredstone Chew tan-backs. A scan would show it better, but this sticker really stands out and is unlike all the other tan-backs I pulled (note that these are tan-backs and all look much whiter under my desk lamp):

Mine is olden Grahams. I find completing this dark back set more compelling than chasing ludlow configurations to be honest.

I was thinking the same thing -- and I am intrigued that Rabid Shaver has the same card as mine. I'm still wondering if this was a single sheet of very dark. Will be interesting to know if anyone finds a very dark tan chase card.

i found 4 also...one was homely comb , charredchew, and pooped on...opps...(my 10 yr old son was the last one)

RaMpB: Bandaches is talking about the fact that the ludlow backs are not always the same for each card. There are a couple of threads on this. Out of the six boxes I bought I have only seen two variations for a given card. What are the cards you got that had the very dark tan backs? Want to make a list!

I can tell you that I opened 3 boxes and none of my tans have the "dark" variation.

I did not find any of the dark tan back stickers, but I have a possible explanation as to how this may have happened (pure speculation, of course!)

Since the "tan" backs are actually thin white stock with a process-printed (simulated) tan stock, it is possible that a few sheets were double printed, causing a darker tan print as there were 8 plate passes instead of the usual 4.

One wrench in this theory is why were there not more dark tan-backed stickers found in individual boxes. I don't have a clue as to how these are collated into the packs ~ especially since OS1 & 2 had a pretty predictable distibution pattern after opening a few packs.

Like I mentioned above... pure speculation! Even if it IS a print annomaly/error/fluke, it would be interesting to see if a complete set of dark tan-backed stickers could be assembled!

I bought 6 boxes and got one sticker with a darker tan back - Grave Poupon. it is the middle one and is not as notciable in the picture, but easily jumps out at you in real life.

Yep! And he went to a lot of trouble to make Ludlow backs for us that wouldn't be identical for every sticker.

It's three Bat, two Cling, and the Bang is must lighter than the Bat or Cling but definately darker than the regular issue. The cards also came out of different boxes.
