ANS 9
« on: January 17, 2012, 06:30:24 PM »
According to the latest issue of Non-Sport Update (which just arrived in my mail today), Wacky ANS 9 will be arriving in stores in July.

Start waiting!

And, Topps, please keep the magnets in and bring back the cereal boxes.

Awesome!  So we know for sure we'll have Olds 3, Postcard series 8, and ANS9 in 2012, and then most likely a Halloween postcard series.  I would think there would also be time for Old School series 4 and another Eraser series.  2012 could be as good as 2011!

my guess is it'll be the April Previews, as March should have the June products. April should have July stuff.

The March Previews is out, and no ANS9 Wacky Packages info.

There's not yet any ANS9 previews in paper form rather than Previews as of yet...

Here's some Wacky trivia to freak you out. It was seven years between the 1973 release and the 1979 re-issues. It has now been EIGHT years since the release of ANS 1.

We are not experiencing reruns now so there is no corilation to these facts. Not sure how this will "freak us out"

I think the observation is interesting - we're a year longer into the new Wackys, and still getting new series!!

As a kid, I was heavily into Wackys for only a couple of years: '73 to '75. That seems like a short span now but in the context of my little life then it was huge. Now in my 40s, the 8 year span of the ANS feels like a blink of an eye.

Anybody want to count how many unique Wacky titles there have been from 1967 to 2012?

I hope there are magnets in ANS9 too. Topps just released an all-magnet set for Garbage Pail Kids that turned out well. 16 magnet cards - 4 reprints and 12 new titles.

I doubt we'll see cereal boxes. When the ANS7 boxes were still on shelves, I heard from Topps that they sold poorly at retail. They had plans to do cereal boxes for GPKs but they were cancelled.

I'd be fine with more time in between ANS sets and better quality artwork on these.  Old School continues to crush it in terms of quality, so a year in between sets seems to be a good formula.  I also like the eraser series -  I hope these continue.

And in the interim, the postcard sets whet our appetites nicely.

I have a funny feeling it will be a 10 year run and then die out, so I'm think 2-3 more years of Wackys!  All bets are off of course if natural disasters change our planet on 12/21/12.

Wouldn't they need to keep the ANS sets coming out yearly to hold kids interest and keep the brand fresh in their mind. I doubt that kids even know that Olds exist or the postcards.

So who's buying them all? Do adult collectors account for a significant amount of sales? Kids in Canada certainly don't know what a wacky is. It's been 20 years since the last set was released here. :-[
