Have any of you seen this?
« on: March 19, 2010, 10:44:25 PM »
I was just going through my postcards tonight and noticed this special card. I don't remember seeing it before and must have stuck it in the plastic sleeve of the postcard. I have never seen this on ebay either.
I just put it up for auction to see what it would do. Pretty cool stuff:

I've got one of those somewhere. Not sure where it originated.

It's strange because I only have the one along with 3 sets of the postcard series. I don't remember the series off hand but I think it was series 2. It's funny seeing the cigarette by the wrapper. Very taboo to Topps, even on an advertising card. I also don't know the story behind the 'Powered by Ebay' thing.

I have two of the cards, not sure whether I got them with series 2 or series 3, but it's more likely series 3, since they were loose in the shipping box(es), and I bought series 3 in two separate orders.  It's an ad for Topps Vault, so I figured the 'Powered by ebay' thing is because that's where the Topps Vault does their auctions.  It's a very nice looking ad card!

Just a thought for your auction, you might want to consider showing a pic of the reverse, and also including it in a sci-fi category.  It's got some really cool characters - you can't go wrong with Martians, Captain Kirk, the Enterprise, and Apes all together!

Brad,

This was a Vault promo that was included with the series 3 postcards. I don't recall the exact distribution, but some were handed out at the Allentown show a few years back.

If Dave Gross did the painting, maybe it was a very early teaser "easter egg" for Old School.

Many of the auctions I won from thetoppsvault seemed to have thrown them in the box.

I don't believe they are all that rare.  I think I have at least 3 of them stashed away.
