That chart says NY state sales tax is 4%.  And although no county in the state has a state sales tax below 7%, this chart also says NY has a 4% sales tax:  http://ny.rand.org/stats/govtfin/salestax.html 
        I guess I'm lucky to live in a state with only a 4% sales tax...and I'm proud to pay an additional 4% on top of that to keep it that way!

I hope you don't smoke...it's $4.35 a pack tax in NY!!

Whoa Whoa Whoa JAY!  I'm paying 4.25% to keep it that WAY!  Upstate huh? We're taking it in the upstate!

Yep, on top of the New York 'state' sales tax, Suffolk County adds 4.625%, for a total of 8.625%.
