WP OLDS - 1970s Products
« on: April 14, 2011, 06:09:02 PM »
EDIT: I changed my mind. I think I'd rather continue with having the products be a total surprise by series and will still go with what I have researched are the best products to use. Feel free to make your own suggestions here though and they will be considered.

Now that Freakies and Marathon bar are dealt with I think Atari Pong is #1 on the to do list. I LOVE that box.

Has it been attempted? It's such an obvious choice. First product that came to my mind after Wizzer.

Was Mug-O-Lunch from the 70s? Seems like a good one.

Maybe people can start tallying up what products they remember well.

BEER/ALCOHOL
Southern Comfort

Argh! I remember that stuff too well! Never again.

Ha! I haven't been able to touch the stuff since the 70s. Just the thought of and my body convulses.

It's the stuff you don't remember at all that is more concerning!!

Maybe this one slipped by me, but has this food product from the 70's been wackified?

They still make them and I had one today. If I had been opening Wacky Packages and watching Gilligan's Island, I'd have felt like I was 10 again.

Is that like an energy bar from the 70's?  I didnt think they starting making them until the late 80's.

"Health" bars of various forms have been around at least since the mid-70's, and I suspect they first started making appearances in one form or another, in the 1960's.  In my candy research, I've found images of a Nabisco "Fastbreak" bar from around 76 or 77, which was meant to be an all-natural, healthier alternative to the standard candy bar.  I've seen others, as well.

I don't know that they'd have called them "energy bars", as that term may have only come into vogue in the late 80's, though.  I'd also add that, before I started finding reference to them in my various research endeavors, I'd have assumed they were a 1980's invention as well.

David, don't know if this one has been mentioned but it's one of my favorite cereals from when I was a kid and I still have a collection of the free-insides.  It was called "GRINS & SMILES & GIGGLES & LAUGHS."  Perhaps it too much of a parody itself to be parodied.

That one looked more "energy" related because it stated protein on the package, which is big for muscle building.

According to Wikipedia the brand began in the 60's. Here is one product from the early 70's. Gotta love that 70's font!
