I dont know much about vending, but didnt Topps make Vending Machine Boxes of sports cards? What were those machines? Couldnt they be set to dispence a pack? Like i said, i dont know but food for thought.

You're right that sports cards were sold in vending machines in the sixties, but they were sold by the individual card, not the pack.
I've never seen one of these machines, and I'm pretty sure the practice was discontinued by the early '70's.

Of course, Topps continued to make these "vending boxes" throughout the '70s and '80s. By then, I believe they were mostly sold to dealers like Larry Fritsch and Renata Galasso who put together sets to sell on the secondary market. I remember visiting the Galasso factory in Brooklyn in 1977 and buying two vending boxes for $5 apiece, because I was bored with just ordering the complete set.

Oh, 1 other point. My very first pack of Wackys was a 3rd series pack. And it had only 1 sticker in the pack, (it was crackola). I really remember making a big stink about this cause my sisters pack had 2 stickers. (and by big stink i mean cry). lol  :D

Can anyone else remember their first pull?
By pull i mean Wacky!
And by Wacky i mean the stickers.
And by stickers i dont mean stuck together.

(insert puns) as needed

Cant remember my first pull. But I probably did buy a few packs and opened them. They were from the 1st series 1973. I remember Spray Nit, Jail-O, Maddie Boy, 6-Up were probably among the 1st I viewed.  I was blown away and hooked instantly. I do know that later I got, Tied, Grave Train, Fink, Kook Aid and I was thinking to myself, these are getting even better! These great little pictures and gags throwing the finger up at the absudity of commercialism. I loved that idea (and still do). For me, it was comforting knowing that others felt that way too and I was very excited to see more and collect them.

I still remember the only original Wacky pack I opened with one sticker in it was Hired Root Beer (3rd series), and I also felt ripped off!

But I also recall another 3rd series pack containing three stickers (I don't know which three), so it balanced out. Must have been some kind of quirk in the manufacturing process.

P.S. Anyone understand the "Hired" joke/humor? Never got that one... Even today I think it should be "Tired".

I always assumed it meant that the pressure was "hired" by "shaking well before opening".
