1986 Album Art
« on: March 13, 2011, 09:59:38 PM »
Toppsvault is selling off some negatives of a few of the pages from the unused (lost) 1986 Sticker Album
they had auctioned off some of the art pages a few years back - and I'll have to go dig that up and add it in here.

unfortunately, toppsvault doesn't seem to have any idea what they are auctioning, calling these "1980 Wacky Albums", and nothing about them being unused.
Their page numbers don't match the page #'s in the art either.
The auctions are for negatives, so I've included positives that I've created to make them easier to see and enjoy.

Cool stuff. I particularly like the "buy" one.

The art is by Ron Barrett.  And somewhere I have a printed album drawn by Ron from that era.  So you mean that these particular pages weren't used in the final printing of the album?  Maybe I have more than one copy. So are you saying that the album was never distributed, or what?  There for sure was one album that was printed. Do you mean that there was a second album in the '80s that wasn't printed?  Or is this copy (or copies) of the printed 80s Wacky Sticker Album that I have ultra rare things that never saw the light of day?

There was an album printed for the '82 album stickers but not for the '86.  I think the assumption is that these art pages were intended for the '86 album.

And is verified by the shapes of the borders which match the '86 stickers.

There is no assumption. These are for the '86 stickers.
the third image (page 15), is for the last 4 stickers in the set, all of which are from the 1985 Wackys. Muggies Diapers, Mr. Clown, Pimple Magazine, Grave Cat Food

Jay, I don't believe a finished paper copy of the 1986 album for the 77 sticker set has ever been seen. The 1982 album for the 120 sticker set is fairly common.
So if you do have a printed copy of it, it's extremely rare.
topps auctioned off a single proof sheet a number of years ago, but that's been it until these negatives showed up that are being auctioned now.

five more pages from the unused 'lost' 1986 album.
there's some cool art in these things. it's too bad it was never published. Hopefully toppsvault will auction the entire thing for everyone to see.

Thanks for posting these. I think I will print them out and put together a partial album. Too bad that Topps can't or hasn't made images of the whole album available.

I like how they used the Wacky Billboard concept on these things.  It's like a tribute to the original idea behind the Wacky Ads.
