Title: S8 Kleenaxe (w/o slash mark)
Post by: Dr Popper on February 03, 2011, 05:37:17 PM

Does anyone have a series 8 Kleenaxe that doesn't have the slash mark above the axe?  I need one in nice shape if possible.  Thanks!

Use some white out - or wife out, just kiddin' of course.

I've never noticed, is the slash mark part of the orginal art? Checked, and mine have the slash.  8)

Plan9 posted the Kleenaxe art in the art section, and there's no slash.

I just checked and I have a total of four Kleenaxe stickers.  Only one of them does not have the slash.  Then I noticed that it was the only one with two asterisks in the copyright.  The other three are all single asterisk.  Has anybody figured out if that is the key to the slash?

Here is a picture of an 8th sheet from Greg's site:

http://www.wackypacks.com/sheets/series8_B.html

This is a "B" side sheet.  I never can remember if that means 1 or 2 asterisks but the one in the picture does not appear to have the slashes.  Then there is the fact that there are two Kleenaxe's per sheet.  Do we know if the slash only appears on one of the two on a sheet?

I'm just wondering what the relative rarity is of ones with a slash -vs- ones without a slash?

I guess I should have checked Rusty's site before asking all those questions!

http://www.lostwackys.com/Wacky-Packages/8th-series/kleenaxe.htm

I am sometimes forget how much good info Rusty has on his site!

I still wonder if the slash appears on both or only one of the Kleenaxes on the single-asterisk sheets?

perhaps not easy to see, but yes, it's on all three (3) of the single * Slit A sheet, making it the slightly more common version 3:2

This is cool, I didn't even know there was a kleenaxe variation. I knew about the obscure Cram - 2 die cut variation. Rusty's say's only the 2 asterisk version is the original art version and I would think also that it implies the 2 asterisk version is the only version without the slash.

Yah, I have it classified in my "obscure variation" collection because it's not a "mainstream" variation.

That's not bad.....I kind of like it!

Now that everyone is up to speed with the history of this variation does anyone actually have the one I'm looking for?  LOL!

Sorry, can't help you.  In fact, now that I've looked, I don't even have one for myself

I would be curious to know what other "obscure variations" you consider collectible in the Original Series?

Conversely, the "**" one is "Kleen no slash".

I vaguely remember the Scary Jane variation (but can't find any info on the web about it).  However, the series 2 no-copyright variations are something that I don't think I've ever heard of before.

Do tell!

Actually I can provide you links to both of these.  The Scary Jane is on Greg's site, and you need to scroll down to fact #33.............

http://www.wackypacks.com/stickers/wackypackfacts.php?start=79&end=94

.......and the no-copyright Series 2's are on good-ole Rusty's site...............

http://www.lostwackys.com/Wacky-Packages/2nd-series/Gurgle-no-copyright-wackypackages.htm

I've never seen the "no copyright" titles that Rusty shows, so I'm not sure about them.  It's possible that someone could have erased the copyrights, but if they are legit they have to be very rare.

I like the Flare Pen with the _ character in the copyright. I bought a really nice one with the _ character in it because I thought it was so odd.

I need a Flare double-asterisk (no underscore).  Anybody have one for sale or trade?
