Title: Postcard 7 Release Query
Post by: DrDeal on December 11, 2010, 02:50:04 AM
Neil:

With the release of Postcard Series 7 coming in early 2011 I thought I would pose a few questions.
Will there be a regular and a limited set or is it just the limited sets as was the case with the Halloween set?
How many limited sets with Sketchs will be made?
Will they be implementing a subscription program where we can at least be gauranteed one set?
What is the anticipated early 2011 launch date so we can plan our finances?
How many artists are doing sketches this time and can we have their names yet?
Will there be bio cards and will they be one per set as was the case with the last release?

Looking forward to another set and thanks in advance for your efforts and any info you can provide.

Regards,  DrDeal

We will wait for Neil to chime in although I think it might be still a bit early. I believe there will be a non limited set of the PC's like other releases. You have to remember that the Halloween cards were just a special set and not part of the normal PC releases. I don't know how many people realize that. I thought I read Neil stating that the bio cards are probably done now. I'm sure they will have something special for PC7.
Speaking of suggestions - we see that the poll for ANS7 shows that people are always in favor for monster wacky's. Why not do a PC series of nothing but monsters? I realize that was done with the halloween cards but that might also make another special edition.

My recollection on the bio-cards is that they will be in series 7 but they will go back to the original set per pack like before.  My guess on the others is that the quantity will remain at 500 and there will be limited and non-limited releases.  I bet they do some sort of system to allow forum members at least one set.

I was thinking about how cheap the Halloween postcard sets were on the secondary market after the sketches and bonus cards were removed and thought they might just eliminate the non-limited sets.

Yah, you would think that because the Halloween sets didn't have a non-limited version that the postcards themselves would be more desirable but that doesn't seem to be the case.

That's really strange to me.It's such awesome PC art and it's cool as hell{oween} to boot  8)
The sets really should hold some solid value, and with the bio's so rare to be able to have them in std. size it's really the most desirable set to own in my opinion. The fact that it's a special release and limited makes it more desirable.
If just the PC's were $10 each or $50-60 a set I would have paid it.

I think the reason for this is the majority of collectors collect 2.5" x 3.5" trading cards and postcards don't fall into that category.

I concur with this and wonder just how well the non-limited sets have done for Topps. None are sold out. Did they print 1000 sets and sell 400? I wonder how many are left on each release and if that would cause Topps to just do the limited sets.

The non-limited sets are continually printed when supply runs low.

By the way. Take a look at the current sketch auctions. Notice there are very few PC auctions? Band-Ache seems to have the impression that people don't need to have too much urgency to buy them.

Has it been a week already?! Well, I've got a bit of good news. We're starting to get things in order for the next postcard set and there will be a lot of cool new features upcoming. As for the release date, no need to worry, the postcards won't be released the week of Jan 17 (or in January for that matter). Still working on the details...

That's awesome! Hope for a late Feb. so we can pay off some of our OLDS2 boxes and let the dust settle a bit. What the hell am I saying....I'll buy them no matter when they come out ;D

All I ever hope for is that they put a decent spacing between the series, like at least 2-3 weeks. It seems hectic as a collector when they overlap too closely.  It usually takes us a couple of weeks just to figure everything out in a new series.

This year will have so much Wacky stuff coming out it's going to be hard to space it all nice and evenly. Next year could even be worse if the things coming down the pipes sell well enough to warrant continuation.

Here’s a nutty idea. A Valentines PC set, including spoofs of commons Valentines gifts such as boxes of chocolates (See’s), flowers, Hallmark cards, those pricey dumb teddy bears they sell on TV. Or an old school version of vintage products that used to be given as gifts, such as ties, cologne, cufflinks, shoehorns, soap on a rope, and sets of those tiny metal bendable calendars that guys used to wrap on their expandable metal watch wrist bands.

This is a great Valentine's title, really nice I think. Is that an arrow sticking out of Cupid's head? And I just noticed "you suck" on one candy. My my

I've thought the same thing about an Easter postcard release. Perhaps Easter is not secular enough for general popularity, but I would hope so. Some of the obvious Easter related parodies have been done like....

Whenever I see the huge variety of Christmas cards that come out every year, I wish there would be a Wacky Christmas card set.  If not a Christmas-specific line of cards, why not a general line of greeting cards?  There are plenty of holidays that could be covered, such as the Valentine's one you listed.

They release about as many Wacky Packages in a year as they did in it's 70's heyday. Wacky Packs are cheap enough for little kids to collect so why would any adult collector complain?

OLDS3 is more like mid-late summer at this point depending on ANS8. The OLDS 5x7 set thing is undergoing a revision right now but there should be something coming out after the next postcard set.

Midnight would be awesome!  I was just transferred to a new position in a new office, and will now likely be unable to be home during the day for a really short buying window, especially if there's little notice.  I've been able to order every postcard series so far, and getting shut out now would be devastating.

Midnight would be awesome!  I was just transferred to a new position in a new office, and will now likely be unable to be home during the day for a really short buying window, especially if there's little notice.  I've been able to order every postcard series so far, and getting shut out now would be devastating.

I think I'll save the Midnight Sale for the next Halloween release! I've got some ghoulish ideas already!

No worries on the next postcard release. Everyone will get ample notice this time!

How about a 10 PM EST start time? That will appease us working stiffs who are not at a desk with internet access during the 9 -5 time period. I can enlist a friend to help but prefer to do it myself.

To stay up late one night out of the year is enough to make you leave the hobby?  You must be barely hanging on now if that's the case.

It's probably more appropriate to say that I've never really been in the hobby; just peeking in the doorway for the last ten years.

I see, this series is a tough one, and it got a lot tougher now that sellers/dealers who don't collect caught on to how profitable they can be.  Hopefully they have some kind of plan to help that scenario but it's a tough one to remedy.

Wow, you have some catching up to do!  I enjoy putting my series into my binders and doing an info sheet for each series.  When you want to go back and look it over or show it to someone it makes it much easier and looks better.

Nice!  The postcard sets seem to be what I get most excited about in this modern era of Wackys.  I've finally gotten to the point with this hobby where I don't feel the need to collect everything.  But the postcards are still a "must have" item for me.

Can you describe why that is? I'm just curious, because for me it's exactly the opposite, I feel kinda obligated to buy actual card sets, but the postcards seem alien enough that I haven't really become interested, except for the cool ones that looked like wax packs.

Hard to put my finger on it.  I guess mainly I just like the look of them.  And somehow they just seem more manageable than regular Wacky card sets, such as ANS7.  I personally don't like having a million things to chase down with one series (I still haven't collected nearly all the stuff from ANS7).  It also doesn't hurt that the LE postcard sets are generally the cheapest way to get an unopened Wacky sketch card.

For me, I like the format of the larger postcards, if nothing else, just because my 50 year old eyes, don't pick up the details on a regular size card like they used to. I'd love to see the Original Series re-released in postcard format.

That would be cool.  I wasn't crazy about the large one in series 2, with the black backgrounds and fluorescent inks.  I thought the series 1 set was better just as a larger version of the base titles, where you can see more detail.  The series 2 ones reminded me of a look that you would see in a Halloween release.

The nice thing about the postcards is that if you don't like the larger postcard size you can just collect the bio-sets and/or the bonus cards, at least after series 3.  That is turning into a large set at this point, and it's still growing.  I'm hoping the first 3 series are printed as bio-cards as well so there will be a complete postcard set in 2.5" x 3.5" format.

When they decided to do the 5x7 set I went for a completely different look for the 5x7 stuff for obvious reasons. They were going to be black velvet stickers because I wanted a cool 70s fad as the basis but that did not work out.

As of now the 5x7 sets are on hold. They are worried about over saturating the market. They had a whole series planned for these (box, wrappers, chase stuff). I'm trying to convince them to just do a cheap set with no bells and whistles. One big set of just 33 stickers. I think that is all people really want for it. Will keep you posted. The black background stickers will not return for OLDS3. I like to have new stuff each series.

Yeah I added that recently as a hint.

I was going to just use Porkie with my Ducko account, but thought that might be more confusing that doing it as a separate account, and I felt like Porkie was more me than Ducko really.

Then I was going to post a "Hi, I'm Porkie -- formerly Ducko -- and I'm a Wacky-holic" thread, but thought mb that was too odd.

Took a photo of my Porkie sticker (and yes I will forever be in the market for other Irish Test stickers everyone! lmk if you have any you want to sell/trade!), tweaked it a little in Photoshop and it came out pretty nice methinks. Almost looks like a chocolate bar.

Mmmmmm, chocolate...

... now back to the PS7 thread ...

I'm definitely looking forward to these. Really like 'em though I was annoyed last time that they only included one bio card per set. Oink.

Cool! Unfortunately, I don't have access to my email account at work. Are you going to be sending out emails for a pre-order?

I'm ready also! I just checked Topps site and noticed they did a Royal Wedding set. I wonder if there are any sketch cards for this series ;D

I know, we get spoiled with all of these new series and I get withdrawal when there's a lull in the action.  And when is Topps going to release info on the ANS8 series?  I heard a rumor they are doing 1,000+ sketch cards but nothing so far on Topps' site, and the release is apparently late July.

I, personally, have not hit a lull with OLDS2 yet and I know of other collectors that are still going strong. Our collections are getting closer to completion though so it will happen soon. I'm guessing in the next couple weeks. I also have no idea how many boxes Topps has left. I know other collectors are still getting shipments of boxes so those may dry up soon.

It's less than a grand left. There are about 750 on the Online site but I'm not sure if that is the exact number or if they have a bit more that are not in that queue.

It's funny how each batch seems to be layered with different type of sketches. We are now seeing more of your sketches show up and more negatives by you and Neil. It's like they saved some of the best for last.

Well what's really strange is that no Griffith Light Bulbs have been seen!  If Bill Griffith wants to make some money he should put a return card on eBay ASAP.

Topps hasn't sent their MASTER LIST EMAIL announcing Wacky Pack Old School 2 yet have they? I never received an email like that and I think I am on that list. If Topps decides to promote this series that way then the last 1000 boxes might go pretty quickly ie less then two days. But like you have said maybe they are holding off on purpose because they want this series to be available at their on-line store for awhile. Anyway Dave I have a question for ya: what is the most ONE OF A KIND sketch that you created for this series that was inserted in the run (not including any return cards)?
