Do you know what time these go on sale? I have a flight on Wed at around 10AM MST and wouldn't have time to order until about 12:30PM MST. I think the last postcards went on sale at 11 MST so I will miss out completely.
Can you pull 5 aside? I will pay this evening. Would Topps take a quick pre-order?

These are going to be totally awesome!

Looks good!
Notice they're showing the sketch cards in the ad now? They're becoming the main product. Meanwhile the main product is becoming the gum. Eventually they discontinue the gum.

I work during the day so may get shut out of these. Any chance of the pre-order link via email for one set to forum members that has been discussed in the past?
Please advise exactly when these will go on sale. I may be "Sick" on Wed.

Since this is the Halloween Postcards would this actually be postcard series 7? If not then is postcard series 7 coming out later this year?

My girl and I speak of this all the time. Why the hell do stores close early evening, when most work in the day? Their open when you arrive at your job, then close shortly after you get home. By the time you get home, eat, shower and go out to the place to get something, all the employee's are proudly and eagerly stating on the intercom "make your final purchases, the store will be closing in 5 minutes". Who's brilliant idea is this to sell products? No wonder so many people are turning to the internet to do their shopping.

Not trying to derail the topic, but really - give us chance here.

I'm wondering that myself.  I really like the full bio sets, but with 6 postcards and a bonus card, completists could need 6 or 7 sets just for those.

How many sets with Sketch card will be made?  Are there color sketches again and if so how many per artist?
Since Matthew Kirscht has a a serious Halloween creative talent I am especially looking forward to his sketches in this release. If you havn't seen his web site I suggest you check it out. His Hallowwen themed art is wonderful and seems to have quite a following.  www.shiverbones.com    is his web site.

That's true but with everyone else on the forum getting dupes I don't think it will be too tough to trade for, kind of like the Old School subsets.

No this is just a special Halloween edition of the postcards. Series 7 should be released sometime in the not-so-distant future.

Matthew's stuff rocks! In fact, I asked him to do a special version of the postcard back, because he's such a halloween head! It's really spooky!

Now I'm going back to the description to see just exactly what I bought . . .

The ad on the main page linked to the ANS sticker album page before it became a link to the cards. I made my purchase so freakin fast I accidentally bought five sticker albums! I'm sure they'll refund my order.
Well, there will be future and ongoing Wacky releases, so maybe this isn't a bad thing? Being unexpectedly proactive? (Or just get your money back.)

The link was originally screwed up and pointed to wacky binders, it is now fixed.

Halloween Binder?  Just kidding. You must have been the first to hit it when they were posting and it confused the server.

Finally got in. Wow! 500 this time. This may not sell out in 10 min. I paid $63 for overnight shipping. No worries on free shipping. I just want them at my door when I return on Friday.
With 7 bio cards I wish we could order more sets. Oh well, these probably won't sell as high as the other PCs because of the larger QTY.
should be fun to see what turns up in the next few days

larger quantity, yes, but no regular release, and with the bio cards spread out, there is actually less of those.

I almost did that too but I caught myself!  It took them 5 minutes or so to set the correct link up.  The other thing I noticed is if you were in the actual Wacky items section it wouldn't show up, you needed to be at the store front.

yes, put a high number in your cart, it will tell you there are not that many left if you are too high. For instance, I just typed in to buy 280, it said there were not tnat many left, so less than that remain for sale as of 2 minutes ago

I do not know that as a fact, but they have always been released at the same time, and halloween is pretty close so I don't see much of a window to put out a regular release.

Good point.  I thought they might wait for this to sell out and then list them, but it would make more sense to put them out at the same time (particularly if they had different bonus cards, so that we would be compelled to buy both sets).

When you look at what these will sell on eBay you will se it's worth the extra $12 a set to get them. I just paid $164 for one PC6 set. So this is cheap and I know my order will be rushed and no real chance of being part of a lost shipment because they put overnight shipments in a tush state and process before other orders, as so I've been told!

I think these are getting more and more popular with every series, and the sketch cards are HOT lately.  Like you said this does look like a special set with very cool titles so that helps.

I would expect them to do a regular edition set though.  Maybe it's just not up yet.

I think one is winter and one is summer for Northeast states. Just something to confuse us it seems!

We'll be setting the clocks back soon. I wish we could just put them back a half hour and leave it alone all year. We do this to supposedly gain daylight, thus daylight savings. But there is no gain, the sun doesn't conform to our clock setting, it's the same amount of daylight time just shifted. So it's darker earlier at night and lighter earlier in the morning.
In high school, I used to get home and it would be dark because we had split sessions with another school before a new one was built, so we started later in the day and got home later at night.

Can't wait to see the new Halloween Wacky's !!

By the way, there are currently no plans for a regular Halloween edition. 500 sets should have been plenty for all the forum people, who were the only group these were advertised to! It's beyond me why the limited is not 3,THREE IS TWO MORE THAN ONE
I think it would be a neat idea to have a "master set" option in addition to buying single sets for random artists. The master set would include a sketch from each artist along with some type of special premium. This way the completist wouldn't have to spend a fortune on ebay to complete a set. Then you could trade sketches, but it wouldn't be a cost prohibitive and difficult task to get a sample of each artist's work. There would still be plenty of room for trading and selling even with this option.

As it is now, the limit is 5, but there are 6 artists that did sketches. Even if you were lucky enough to meet the deadline and incredibly lucky to get all different artists with your order limit, there is no way you could make a set.

Technically this Halloween postcard set is not Series 7. As Neil said, "Series 7 should be released sometime in the not-so-distant future."

Ha! Poor Sally, maybe next year  :P

I think one is winter and one is summer for Northeast states. Just something to confuse us it seems!
hmm? only in the Northeast? nah, Daylight Time is *nationwide* during the summer, except for Arizona.
Eastern Daylight Time
Central Daylight Time
Mountain Daylight Time
Pacific Daylight Time
we're all in Daylight Time right now
I just find it odd that people would spell out Eastern Standard Time, which has a very specific meaning (GMT-5hrs), instead of just saying Eastern or ET.

By the way, there are currently no plans for a regular Halloween edition. 500 sets should have been plenty for all the forum people, who were the only group these were advertised to! Anyway,

The problem with this is all the money grubbers come to the forum now.

That's true, and we should try to keep the threads separate, because when series 7 does release it will be very confusing.  We should rename this thread 2010 HALLOWEEN POSTCARDS.

We should just start a new thread about the release. This was just about the announcement. The new thread would be pics and such

What do these usually cost?
I've never gotten in on them and only know ebay prices >(
Will these be numbered again? 300 again?

Well here is the seller so obviously he got in on them this time

Keep refreshing the page. More sets should come available sporadically today and tomorrow.
That just seems cruel to me. "Sold Out", for the moment? That is beyond funny! A wonderful oxymoron.

Today I was too busy harvesting rice to open a browser to get in on this one, but I am enjoying reading this thread instead.

Collecting stuff sure has changed!

I had my buddy who works from home get me some today. Many thanks to Neil for the heads up on the exact time of sale so I could ask my friend to help.I got shut out on Rel 6 and then was helped out by Neil's waiting list. I have one sketch from each release and two from the last one since they are on two different cards.
I got my shipping notification this evening also.

For some, I would suggest changing "collecting" to "amassing" and for some others "profiteering".

Before we start questioning the ethics of people who want to make money selling collectibles I'd like to ask these questions first.

1. Since Topps put out a series that requires you buy six to complete your set, then sets a limit of five sets per customer, is it still unethical to find a way to buy more sets?

2. When one of us sells a sketch card on ebay and makes a crazy profit on it, is that seller unethical because he didn't offer it at what you think is a "fair" price?

3. Should we condemn every collectibles dealer in the world for their "profiteering"? Or maybe just the ones who are "official" dealers. The rest of us aren't allowed to profit, right?

4. Have you ever been grateful that something you missed out on came available on ebay, even at a high price? I sure have!

5. Before we start burning people at the stake I want to make sure of something. Are we talking about frivolous collectibles or the last of the word's clean drinking water?

This "master set" would be a perfect candidate for a subscription product. Giving a completist a way to get a set is also a way to keep people from considering bailing out on the product if they end up missing one of these "frenzied" sale dates (these releases remind me of waiting on line for concert tickets in the 80s) and don't want to drop a grand to play catchup.

If the completists are able to get a set, they are less likely to want/need to burn through many single sets to put a set together and that would leave more single sets for the majority of the people who just want 1 or a few from each release. Anybody else have any thoughts on this?

I dont think your post justifies answering but i will anyway. There's nothing wrong with people buying a few extra of these to profit on. Nothing wrong with that at all! It's the people that have found a way to buy 20-30 sets by using friends, relatives, etc, and thus depriving other collectors- that is what people are angry about. If you want to pat those people on the back then go right ahead, but I won't be joining you, sorry!

I'm glad you feel there's nothing wrong with profiting on Wacky Packs. I spent 10K on the hobby this year so you better believe I'm going to profit if I can. But you're not the one who's bashing people for it so the post wasn't meant for you. By the way, there's a difference between defending someone's actions and patting them on the back for it.

I used the word "profiteering" which is succinct and accurate. You are the one attaching a moral interpretation to the word. I bought my 5 allotted sets and I understand I was a fortunate one who:

1) Was informed when and where the sale would be
2) Had access at the correct time
3) Had the funds to make the purchase.

I can write more later, I'm at work now. I realize the reality of supply and demand.

The ultimate optimist!

Well, I see Topps has again taken down the link for the Halloween Postcard set. I had been refreshing the link repeatedly hoping (optimistically) that a set or two might appear. I suppose I'm going to stop that, so there are limits to my optimism (generally, the limits involve the point where I have to do any actual work - or in this case where the actual work gets to be completely pointless). But since hoping for a shipping confirmation on a set I never bought involves no actual work, I will continue to hope!

Hmm, maybe if I buy 5 sets of the binder I can claim that I was really trying to buy 5 sets of the postcards. Dang! I should have thought of that yesterday.

Those are all solid points and reflect a nice "devil's advocate" perspective.  I just think with this particular series it was clearly produced for the collector in-mind, not like a mass produced series, so when people network to secure 20 sets with no intention of collecting the sets themselves but profiting instead, it does leave a bad taste in my mouth.

ok, some quick bits of info from my 5 sets
Neil's Sketch cards are puzzle pieces! At least the two I received were. Also, your bio card matches the sketch card, I guess that means there are less than 100 of each bio card, which makes them among the lowest printed wackies ever. Mark Parisi has sketch cards for the 1st time and they are really nice.
Fair enough. I thought I was seeing a mob start to form against anyone who might want to sell some postcards. I'm not someone who would bash the guy who bought up all the series 1 sets even though I never got one so I certainly don't think it would be fair to target me if I decide to sell some stuff. Selling is part of the fun of collecting. Selling puts the stuff in the hands of other collectors. Maybe some aren't fortunate enough to afford them but then again, some aren't fortunate enough to know there was a product release at all. Some can't even afford Topps price.

When I was a kid in 1979 there was one local drug store that I was allowed to wander out to for Wackys. The clerk would only let us buy one pack a day so more kids would get to taste the pie. He wanted to "spread the wealth", thereby depriving my desire to complete a set. So I never completed a set. I think it still haunts me to this day because I usually buy more Wackys than most would. I still buy every re-issue box that comes along, outside of the way overpriced ones.

Uh oh.  I just noticed something!  One of my friggin sketches is BENT in the upper left corner!!  The 2 cards that came with it inside the penny sleeve are fine, but of course the most important one is screwed up!  It's the Mellow Cup Hippy sketch.  Damnit this pisses me off!  I was going to trade or sell this to get a sketch I wanted more. What would Topps do, if anything, to compensate for this?  This bend surly devalues the sketch!

Mark, don't sweat it. I may sell some also to get what I want. There is nothing wrong with selling a card. I sold a lot of OLDS to recoup my cost to get the cards I wanted. Why is this bad? It's actually no different than trading. So you trade for money instead of another card. You then use the money to buy the card you want. Same difference.

These limited sets sure get all of our blood pumping!  I wanted to comment on what I think the two major issues are that get people riled.  No,  I am not making any earth-shattering new revelations here.  I will post each one as a separate post to try and stay brief.

One thing people are frustrated with, is the absence of an equitable way to sell a very limited quantity of product. No matter what time of the day or what the venue of the sales is, there will be those who are unavailable to participate. I envision the selling of one of these sets in my mind like the days when they opened territory for the land rush. We are all at the starting line with our buckboard wagons, women, cows, etc. waiting for the starting gun to sound. We furiously start hitting the refresh icon looking for that first sign of change on the web site.

Several have suggested a prescription approach which, at first sounded very appealing to me. But then I started thinking that that would really just move the frenzy to the point where registration opens. You still have the issue of the first X people who can register being the haves and those that missed out being the have nots.  I don’t hear anyone lobbying for a “lottery approach” where you register your name to win a chance at purchasing sets. I just don’t like the taste of that myself.

The only “fairer” way I can think of would be to do the sales just as they did on Wednesday, except perhaps break the inventory into half or thirds and have several sales over a period of a day or two at different published times. I know, its not a very elegant solution and from Topps perspective would be more time consuming and costly. That’s the best I got.  The reality is, some will always get in on the initial sale and some won’t Topps will never have an iron-clad way to guarantee someone is not purchasing more than the prescribed amount.  In fact, the technology that make it so easy to purchase quickly is the same technology that would make it easier for someone to purchase under multiple accounts/IDs/addresses.

These limited sets sure get all of our blood pumping (part 2) !  I wanted to comment on what I think the two major issues are that get people riled.  No,  I am not making any earth-shattering new revelations here.  I will post each one as a separate post to try and stay brief.

The other  controversial issue is resale of the hot commodity. Profiteering, price-gouging. scalping, capitalism… whatever you want to call it. I don’t really see anyone completely detesting any type of profit made from the resale of WPs. No one is suggesting price fixing or a regulatory committee. Seems like we all participate in it to some extent… ahhh, there’s the rub. What differs is each person’s tolerance for what they consider a “fair markup” or “honest profit”.

No amount of arguing is going to settle that. People have mentioned all types of opinions on what they consider palatable and unsavory and under what situation. The bottom line is some people have a stronger moral feeling than others. I hate to use the word “moral” in fear I am misconstrued as to where I fall on this but I don’t know what else to call it.

Some of us would feel guilty flipping an item we just purchased for $40 on eBay with a starting bid of $200. Others of us would not think twice.  As for myself, somehow my conscience feels better if I start it at a lower price and let the bidders determine the value… that’s my internal “moral compass”. Basically, I am the one I have to be able to face in the mirror each day, not the other WP collectors/sellers.

It's no different than buying a Wii, Xbox, iPhone, iPad, or any other item on day one and turning it for a profit. If something is hot it will sell on the open market. You also notice these packs aren't really flying off the ebay shelves at the higher prices so people will take a stand and not pay these premium prices. Just because a person lists it high doesn't mean it will sell for that price.

These limited sets sure get all of our blood pumping (part 3) !

So, it appears to be the combination of the two issues (availability and resale) that really triggers everyone’s emotions. I certainly understand the frustration on missing out on the initial sales opportunity. The 6th series postcards were the first I was able to participate in.  My only recourse for earlier sets was to pay current prices on eBay or buy and trade within the forum or other like groups. Oh wait… I also had the option of NOT BUYING AT ALL.  I think we sometimes forget this option exists because we all are very passionate about WPs. The thought of going without, drives us all crazy.  But, we don’t have to pay the $200 price for a $40 set of paper . Bottom line.

Personal control is after all personal.  No one at Topps holds a literal gun to our heads. We may not like that Topps limits us to 5 sets then taunts us with sets that require 7 bio cards to make a complete set (or whatever each person defines that to be… I always enjoy the discussions on each set of sketch cards and what each person determines  their criteria of a complete set to consist of).  But this still boils down to a personal control issue.  You can buy your 5 sets from Topps then trade in the forum and/or pay eBay prices to get the rest of whatever your complete set is, or you can break Topp’s intended rules and use alternate means to obtain more sets at the lower price. A personal call.

I did receive shipping confirmation this morning. Looks like a Monday delivery for me via Big Brown.

Same situation here, I was hoping to get them this weekend but it's not going to happen. I wish I had ordered 5 sets instead of just two. They look awesome!

If I want to buy 5 packs just so I can open one and shove the others in a drawer forever then that's acceptable to the whiners. I can do anything a collector might normally do and that's fine with them. They just don't want me profiting. Meanwhile, half the forum talks about collecting almost exclusively as if the hobby is a junior stock market.

By the way, when that link mistakenly lead me to buying 5 albums yesterday I asked them to cancel my order. So the stupid dimrods canceled my album order AND my postcard order. So I guess I'll be paying top dollar on ebay for mine. I'm glad the whiners haven't stopped them or I'd have no way of getting any.

That's not right. I'm sure you've already done so, but I would let Neil know to see if he can help.

Not necessarily. If the profiteers didn't buy so many, there could be some left. Or at least more left for forum members to buy who might turn them around at a fair rate. Also, calling people whiners is nasty. Let people state their opinions without calling them names. You state your opinions all the time.

I hope you get your set at a reasonable rate.

Lots of anger this series, which could have been avoided with the postcard "subscription" thing (maybe next series?)

Are we calling everyone who sells a postcard set a "profiteer" and condemning them? I hope not. There seems to be 3 situations this time around:

Those who stayed under Topps limit of 5 and want to sell some/all of them
Those who bought more than 5 sets to try to complete a full set of 7 Sketches/Bio cards (since there were 7 artists this round)
Those who bought more than 5 sets only to profit on ebay

So do people agree that the first two are acceptable but the third one is not?

Dang... I know how I missed this one (haven't been on the site in a week or so), but I cannot believe I missed this one.  Sigh...

Been helping a friend out shooting his film the past five days.  Early, and long days.

I did get a chance to meet and see Dylan Baker work, which was cool.  And helping out a friend pursue their dream is its' own payment... but damn!

That said, is there a thread/request list for members looking to get extra sets from other members?  I'd like to get on that list, if there is one.

Didn't we discuss some kind of subscription list the last time this happened?

Not the end of the world - they're just things, after all... but it'd be fun to have not missed out.  :-)

I'm lucky enough to have, up until know at least, been able to get one set of each limited edition post card series.  Until now.

I'm not trying to whine that I missed out.  I AM bummed, because I was having fun collecting the ongoing series of post cards.  Based on how I personally collect - that fun will diminish if my series run is ended, because I'm also not personally willing to spend the amounts currently being asked on Ebay.   I'd like to think I'll still want to pick up future series of post cards - but as with most things in entertainment, "jumping off points" come in many forms - and missing a release in a series like this is a big one.

But I know why I missed out - I was off the forum for a week.  That's on me.  For those more dedicated this month, and who might have been on the forum every day, they get a reward.  It's also on me that I'm not willing to spend $100+ on a set of six post cards that came out two days ago.

As for the folks selling these sets on Ebay for profits big and small - well, whaddya gonna do?  They're free to do it, but if they are - then so are the folks who want to characterize their actions as messed-up for doing so.  And of course you can characterize THOSE folks as whiners...  it goes on and on and on.

I just think it'd be cool to get one of those sets for $35.  :-)

I posted some postcard sets on ebay. My thing is to collect the sketch cards, bio cards, & a couple of bonus and PC card sets. I don't need 3 extra PC and bonus card sets laying around. I have a lot of other PC extra's because I kept everything together and now realize it really doesn't matter. Collectors collect for various reasons so the other extra's must go. I don't want to be a hoarder :o

There are plenty more variables that could lead to someone selling postcard sets, sealed or not. It's utter no-self-control communistic bullshit to condemn anybody for buying and selling. If you happen to be one of those persecutors, you'd better have a good explanation if you don't sell a sketch card on ebay for a "fair" price. Because according to your moral stature you should have brought it to the forum and offered it at a "fair" price. Oh, but you didn't need the card. So what? You'll cash in, won't you? I didn't start this debate. The guys who declaring their postcard morality started it.

And really, if someone is honest with themselves, isn't the true cause of frustration the extremely limited availability of these sets at initial sales time (500 units sold in 50 minutes! Not even hot cakes sold this much like hot cakes). Its the high number of have-nots that result that is causing the irritation. The complaints of eBay prices, etc. is a byproduct. I have not seen complains about $300 price tags for ANS7 gold bordered cards on eBay because everyone feels they have an equal chance to get one themselves in the wild. The opportunity still exists. These discussions occur, in my opinion, because people do not feel they had the opportunity to be involved with the initial sale of the postcard sets. So shouldn't the discussion be focused on whether there is a way that the initial sales could, realistically, be done any differently to change that? Keeping in mind, as others have pointed out, that Topps does not have much of a vested interest in changing the current situation. After all, they sold out in 50 minutes, What could be better for them?

Out of curiosity, is anyone here very familiar with the reason Topps decided to produce these postcard sets the way they did? I mean in such limited quantities and only direct point of sales.

I think you're right. It all stems from availability. Topps could sell more if they raised production to 1000 sets or more. But people involved with the production including Neil want to keep a lower production quantity to preserve a level of speciality, if that's a word. At this point Neil is probably fighting to keep Topps from RAISING the production quantity. I do appreciate Neil's approach, even though it results in a few casualties along the way. The only wrench is the works is that people are flinging aside the postcards to get to the sketch card. I'm hopeful that the sketch card industry will peak and collapse. Every card series out there is cranking out millions of sketch cards. By this time next year there's going to be about 10,000 Wacky Packages sketch cards floating around. Then more and more and more. Maybe by that time artists will be doing their best work ever yet the cards will be extremely affordable.

Appreciate your comments, Mark. And I definitely agree, the sketch cards are changing the game (hopefully for the better)! I do see the artist's sketches getting better with every release, so that's a big positive! Anyway, I don't know what future sets will look like, but we keep edging closer to mass market, which as you know, I'm not a big fan of. But it doesn't really matter, since that's not my call. As for this set, 500 sets seemed like plenty, especially since there's such a small window for a holiday release. I guess I need a marketing department to analyze the data...oh wait, I've got the forum!javascript:void(0);

I don't see the sketch cards going away anytime soon.  They are too fun and cool to fade away like a fad!  The fact that each one is unique, and the artist can use their imagination as to what they will look like makes them very addicting. As long as they keep them similar to the existing format I could see them hanging around longterm.  I could see the secondary market prices drop somewhat though as more and more of them
come out with each series, and that's a good thing.  That would enable some who didn't want to pay crazy prices get some.

It really is the sketches that are driving this. I love the postcards also but it's the fun and unique sketch cards that drive us to buy more. Who needs 5 sets of postcards? Actually the postcards are fairly easy for people to obtain. There are sets on ebay now so people can get them. They just won't get the sketch or the bio's. The postcards are also listed cheaper than the sets from Topps.

I expect them to drop as well for this reason. Same reason the original paintings dropped. The more that come out the less people look at them as unique and start to focus on favorites over volume.

I think the sketch cards are driving the anger not the actual postcard series. If there were no sketch cards I still think this series sells out but it would over a much longer period of time and everyone that wanted a set would get one instead of maybe 80-100 different people in an hour's time. The postcards already proved to be a success before they started using sketch cards in later releases.

Yep, that original series is still my favorite.  Simple but effective gags, only 3 sketches and one artist to worry about, without all the flashy extras.  It's the only series that I have all the sketch variations for.  I guess if I can only do it with one series, that's the best one to have being that it was limited to 100 sets and is the series that started it all!

Other factors could change the sketch card game. Artists are putting more and more effort into their cards while others capitalize on their efforts. That can't last. Sketch cards may around for a long time but we may be in the midst of the sketch card heyday.

Interesting idea! I'd love to see a printed magazine with all of the different cards! My only concern would be the cost. At one point, Dave Gross suggested a guide for the sketch cards. But I think doing a web page with sketch cards & postcards might be more practical, since it doesn't cost as much to produce. But man, a magazine would be awesome!

Wow, that really sucks.  You get severly hosed just by trying to make your order right.  I didn't bother to orsder any of these.  I am not a big colleter of these sets, but now that I see the artwork and choices, I like them.  I probably won't buy any of them based on what it would cost me though.  I should get more active and buy the series 7 set that is coming out soon.
