I’ve always loved the layout of OS checklists, from the tiny image icons to the fonts used, even just seeing the titles spelled out gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling. Only the 16th changed that font slightly. I’ve often wondered why the ‘Wacky Packages’ font over the title listings appears to be unique to the checklists - the wrappers don’t use it, the display boxes don’t, not even the shipping cartons I’ve seen.
I recently ordered a sample copy of The Wrapper, just out of curiosity to see which dealers still advertise, article content, etc. It’s probably been 15 years or so since I’ve had one. Noticed something right away when I saw the cover image - Topps’ earlier Beverly Hillbillies set used what appears to be the checklist mystery font. Check it out.

Looks the same right? The BH set dates back to 1963. I wonder how many other times Topps may have dusted off and used this font on various 60’s and 70’s sets. I wonder if it’s a standardized font from that era. Any members with a graphics or publishing background who might know?

I think that font Topps used is Dom Casual Bold.

Looks like a match - thanks. I’m getting a sense of deja vu, like maybe this has been covered before. If so, please forgive my senior moment! 🤓

Great find!
I was doing a casual search of fonts related to hillbilly, country, etc. and found many of a similar style, but not that one.
there's a nice writeup on the font and usage on Wiki. Maybe someone can add info that it was used by Topps on some of their trading cards.

Interesting the TV show credits mentioned. I’m thinking there may be others that Wikipedia left out, especially 60’s shows. Possibly The Munsters? I’ll be on the lookout.

If you want me to research that hillbilly font, post a sample here. I love font investigation and research!

Thought I'd use this thread for this...
Has anyone else ever noticed this on any Series 11 checklists? I was going thru my stash and it caught my eye: the title names are in bold or have been printed over twice, maybe? I think I only found one like this. Is this old news?

I have never noticed this. It does look like the print on the lower one is bolded. Great eye!

This is likely a result of different print runs. Different press operators sometimes lead to different ink balances.

And that's part of the love of the 70's and the OS series!!
