For anyone planning on attending the Philly show in Allentown PA this October, John (Scary Lee) and I are planning on getting together at the Hilton Garden Inn Friday night (10/08) to hang-out, trade and talk Wackys, and then hit the show the following morning. We thought it would be cool if we could get a little group together and hang in the lobby for a while, and maybe do dinner as well. We are going to stay at the hotel overnight and it's very close to the show for the following morning. There is a Red Robin within walking distance right next to the hotel which works out nice. If anyone thinks they can make it let us know! It would be a good opportunity to trade ANS7 items.

I've never been to one of the Philly shows and would love to go. Unfortunately between family, school, work and life there is no way I can go. I've been to Philly once in 1993 and it is a great place to visit. I've always wanted to go back, but the opportunity hasn't risen. Everyone else have a great time!

The show is actually in Allentown despite the name. The venue has it's pluses and minuses, but it's still fun!

Last year we had trouble using the tables near the snack bar. We finally settled in but we had to buy stuff to stay there. I wonder if it will be an issue again?

Did the snack bar people try to get people to leave if they weren't eating? I actually helped them load their soda machine as they were understaffed and the machine was void of beverages. A little kid thought that was novel and came over to help so I taught him what to do and he had a ball finishing the job. I guess I shouldn't have offered to help if they were chasing some of our wacky traders away.

Yup, they told us that the tables were reserved for customers eating from the snack bar. Once we bought some stuff they seemed to back down. I wonder if we could bring our own folding table? Maybe I'll ask Roxanne before the show.

Get the trading done the night before and it shouldn't be an issue although there is rarely enough stuff at the show to keep our interest for more than an hour so post show trading for those who don't make Friday night will need some space.

The irony is that the show is not in Philly! It's actually near Allentown PA which is approx. 3 hrs. from Philly. I wish it was in Philly as I am just 45 min.s away from there.

C'mon man......drag the wife along if you have to! LOL I'm actually going to be with my girlfriend. I'm not sure she'll want to hang out with a bunch of geeks like us the whole time but she's usually pretty cool about it.

Alright, ya got me! haha. I forgot we already had a promo show up for OLDS2. I guess since it was back in February and I'm getting along in years, the old memory just flat out failed me. I guess I need to revise my question to "Are we getting another promo for OLDS2?"

No, it will be a promo like BC Cola was only I was told it would be an actual sticker and not a card. It will not be exclusive to the show (unless something changes).

Marriott and a few friends might be taking the 5-hour drive down. Who knows, maybe I can sneak away
for a day?

Would be awesome to meet you! I played bridge in college but not since. I do play spades and think I am quite good at it. One thing I don't like about partner games is the liklihood of cheating. I know two people in my dorm cheated endlessly at bridge as they admitted long afterwards that they have a whole signal system in place to convey their hand to each other....made the bidding a moot point.

Anyone going to the show on Sunday? I probably can't make it on Saturday due to my niece's BD party which my kids would kill me if they didn't get to attend. Would like to know if it's worth my time to go on Sunday at all.
Mike will bring OLDS1 posters and binders and I believe he will have the promo card (or sticker) for OLDS2. Not sure about the flyer yet.

It would be great if Mike could also bring boxes of the flow packs with gum. I'd buy a box from the website for Halloween, but the $9 postage is just too much.
I know I would like a pack or 2 for my pack collection and wrapper collection, but I don't want a whole box. If possible, since these are harder to find, it would be nice if topps could have 1 flow pack box open for pack sales. Would anyone else be interested in this?
Also, if they have access to them at topps.com, a box with 4 sticker no gum packs -they are not easy to find either.

It seems there are several people who want to get a couple of the 3+gum packs but don't want a whole box (me included). Would people be interested in going in together on a box and packing it out? I would be willing to buy a box from Topps and then sell packs to anyone interested at cost + shipping.

I'm interested in any mechanism for getting all of the packs that exist. I wish there was some way to buy everything from a single source, but I guess that's no longer realistic.

I am going to do the same. I will buy as many admissions as they allow me and will assume folks here will keep me whole on costs. I think last year they allowed us to buy an extra admission. I bought the (2) two day admissions which allowed me 4 packages so I am hoping to be able to get 4 so the stuff in the extra three can be sent around to folks in need here.

Haven't heard anything new about an OLDS promo or flyer for the show. If they are not ready I will just send out a mass email and people can send me an SASE like last time when they are ready.

I just had a horrible realization - the Yankees are playing at home Saturday evening. Traffic could be murder on my way home!! Bad enough in May it took me an entire hour just to get from the GW Bridge through the Bronx and over the Throg's Neck. Think I'll look into Staten Island, but I've never had luck driving there........

Plan to head home after the game starts but before it ends or well before the game starts, just avoid that 1-2 hour period before game time and the first hour after the game.

Just a quick report about the show today......we had a fun time. Bill F. made it and it was nice to finally meet him in person, and Mark Bauer (Campy) made it from Indiana!, and it was nice to meet him as well.
Mike J. was behind the Topps booth and handed-out the series 2 promos. He also had some cool vintage items in a display box that will eventually hit ebay through the Vault.
I spent the first couple of hours searching the through the tables, and then we had the typical gathering near the snack joint to trade/buy etc.

Besides Old School 2, did the Topps booth feature anything on their plans for a 7th. Wacky Packages postcard series before 2010 is over and/or plans for Wacky Packages ANS8 for 2011 release?

I bought a two day admission and got two sets of the promo packs. I don't want either of them. I have a pile of people who sent me private messages before the show asking for promo packs but I believe they were assuming there would be great wackys in them. The only wacky in the promo pack is the Croca Cola that we all have 100 of my now. One person still wants the promo pack so if none of the others who wrote me want it, it is yours as I have added you to the list.

I ran a little short on time in the afternoon, but hopefully I will have more time for some trading & talking at the tables next time. It is very disconcerting that there are so many fake packs, even common ones. Between getting that lesson, getting my missing COA for my Stench Berries Sketch(that is now owned by Campy), selling off all of the non-wacky stuff I got with the punched diecuts collection that was for sale here recently, picking up a 1982 cereal pack and finding a rare 11th yellow wrapper in Roxanne's stash that i needed that she gave me for free for my helping her all these years and getting the 1982 OPC pack/wrapper I needed from Paul Maul, it was really a good day!
I do worry about the future of the show, the number of dealers is falling fast and there were very few dealers with good wackys. I got word circulating with the dealers that they should use the extra space to set up trading tables INSIDE the show. Keeping people in the room may spike sales, maybe encourage folks to stay longer and would give us a larger area to trade instead of having to "rent" the cafe tables for the afternoon.

Greg and I actually started to do this last fall. We took some pictures of fakes and I wrote some stuff up. My biggest concern is that such a document would help pack fakers as much as it would help potential victims. If anyone wants information about it feel free to contact me. I would be willing give a little presentation about it at one of the shows time permitting, because it's a lot easier to explain in person than in words.

I do worry about the future of the show, the number of dealers is falling fast and there were very few dealers with good wackys. I got word circulating with the dealers that they should use the extra space to set up trading tables INSIDE the show. Keeping people in the room may spike sales, maybe encourage folks to stay longer and would give us a larger area to trade instead of having to "rent" the cafe tables for the afternoon.
It was nice seeing everyone again. I missed some of you as my wife and I left before 2PM to get home before the traffic and to take care of our dog. Thankfully I collect other non-sport cards because the vintage Wacky stuff was not much.

It was good seeing you too, sorry you had to leave so early, tough to really catch up as the morning is pretty much used up in visiting tables. Hope you found some good stuff!

I think us getting a table for ourselves for the spring show would be an excellent idea, Many of the people in charge of the show didn't care for us hogging most of the tables even though we were actually eating there as well.

Jasperson said he would mention it to Roxanne. When I went to her table to discuss the idea, she wasn't there and I forgot to go back as I wanted to get home to enjoy some of the great weather and hook up with some friends who were in town.

Bill, I don't have any pics, but the only vintage items that were in the display that I recall were some display boxes they had made from unused file copies (I recall the Weakies poster box, an 8th and a 12th). I don't remember anything else noteworthy on the vintage end.

Wasn't there some kind of Weakies art as well? I didn't get a good look at it but it looked like it had notes around it.

I just had a horrible realization - the Yankees are playing at home Saturday evening. Traffic could be murder on my way home!! Bad enough in May it took me an entire hour just to get from the GW Bridge through the Bronx and over the Throg's Neck. Think I'll look into Staten Island, but I've never had luck driving there........
The ONLY reason why I'm NOT going is because the roads and signage through the Philly area was abosolutely a NIGHTMARE. We got lost for a longer amount of time than what the whole trip should of taken. There were detours sending you off into all different directions, with no indications as to where you are going or how to get back to the road you just left! And no-one could give any directions who I asked, but they all tried instead of just saying, "I don't know". It's 2010. With all the technology and taxes that have been paid through the years, you think that the roads would be nearly perfect besides mantenance. Even one of the Toll people gave me wrong directions - left out a major turn, right in the beginning of leaving that Toll, and I was off in the wrong direction. Later, I got more directions for another Toll person - who's were better, but still missed major turns (I wrote it down) had a suspition that we were going to be headed in the wrong direction, so asked the car next to us at the red light, and thank God they were headed in the same direction we were. A total NIGHTMARE on Elm Street and every other Street.

I'm confused. The show is in Allentown, not Philly. It's also one of the easiest shows to get to I've ever attended. You get off Route 78 and the show is about 100 yards away.

He must be coming south of Philly, but there's no reason to have to get off the highway until you get to Allentown. I use my free Google Maps GPS on my iPhone and it works great. Your right though, getting to this show location is a piece of cake.

Topps was handing out the Olds 2 promo but Dave has mentioned getting a batch for forum members who couldn't get them, so I wouldn't worry about that one. Plus I heard that Topps will add them in to other releases, so I doubt it will turn out to be a rare one.

Don't you live in NJ? The show is literally like 100 yards off Route 78, go two lights, make a right, you are there.
