Maybe Old School series 9 in 2020 will spotlight the 1990's (with take offs on 1990's products like Fruit String Thing, Crystal Pepsi, Napster, and the Archie Sonic the Hedgehog comic book).
I wonder in OS8 if the Mr. T cereal spoof will feature Mrs. Klean as Mr. T.'s mom.
Any 1980's Charlie Brown/Peanuts related spoof in OS8 also?
Totally radical! Wacky Packages Old School 8 goes on sale next week on Thursday, Nov. 7th. The new set takes a detour to the 1980s taking on some iconic brands such as Mr. T Cereal, Hi-C Eccto Cooler, Atari, Gatorgum, Aqua Net, Garbage Pail Kids and much more. 30 cards, 3 puzzles, checklists, Ludlow, tan and white back variations, rough cards, sketch cards and pack header card (subject to change or me not getting this all correct, ha).
(https://i.postimg.cc/V0Qw2Wyh/WP-OLDS8-Pack-Cardsmall.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/V0Qw2Wyh)
And don't worry, the 1970s will return...
Sorry if I missed it, but am I correct in saying these are only being sold by the box ? How do we purchase them? How much are they and what forms of payment are accepted. Thanks. Jeff
p.s. Is this new set going to be entirely 80's titles?
1990s is always a possibility. Let's see how the 80s goes first. I have a lot more 70s I want to do as well and I kinda prefer the 60s over the 90s. The visuals on the 60s products are fantastic.
Any thought of doing today's products with their pre-1960s packaging (Coke, Pepsi, etc.)?
I believe we will have to wait for Topps to tell us the purchasing options.

Hey... that's a cool idea. 1940s/50s products had a distinct look. Would be cool to see what Wackys of those would look like. Although you'd have to call them, "Golly Gee, Swell, Snazzy Packages" or something.

Sorry, no Peanuts stuff in the new set. I did not put Mrs. Klean in the Mr. T parody.

And Old School 8 the 1980's edition will not include any Disney nor Marvel nor Star Wars related spoof thanks to Disney C&D-ing any Wacky Pack spoofs of Disney owned properties since 2014 after stopping release of a Star Wars Wacky Packages series for Topps.

It's to their own detriment, at least IMHO.it's a strange situation though, as Topps didn't reprint even *one* of their wrappers for any of these properties for the 80th anniversary set.
The Topps Wacky Packages website page just posted this image
Can you share the link? I've had no luck either with a search on the Topps site or with Google... :-\
Glad to hear of this new set and look forward to Dave's amazing art and parodies. Now please, Topps, bring back packs and boxes
I second this, though I fear that ship has sailed, as far as Topps is concerned.
I may be in the minority, but I really liked having a bunch of the die cut stickers to stick on stuff. Oh, maybe it wasn't that many that I actually stick with each series, but I used 'em.
Now, they're UV-resistant instant collectibles, that have to be protected because of their high cost. Not the most awful thing or the end of the world, but I liked the disposable sticker fun that the original Old School box-full-o-packs offered.
And I second your take, Jason. Sadly, for both of us, the ship does indeed seem to have sailed. I'm pleased to get images that are true to the spirit of the original series in tone and quality. And I look forward to an 80's spin (even if the 70's is more my decade). Not sure how to get Topps to change its mind, but if anyone has any pull, please use it.
"Sold Out"??

A new groupling of wacky masterpieces have been unleashed. For the record, I saw the checklist. I'm guessing that the She-Ra parody 'She-Ra-Ra is cheerleader based, maybe.

Impressive! How long did it take to do all those?HA!! Many days and lots of Coffee.
Dave,
In OS7 the puzzle was on the backs of the roughs. Will that be the case with OS8?
I purchased a base set and would like to know if that will or won't include a puzzle.
Regards, Andrew
There are three different puzzle backs I was told and they, along with the checklists are on the rough card backs so I assume 27 puzzles and 3 checklist cards
Three different puzzle backs - wow! Last time the pencil backs had three copies of the same puzzle, and I broke up some pencil sets to make three sets of a puzzle and checklist for people here who didn't care about an entire pencil set, but wanted a puzzle and checklist.
The prospect of three different puzzle backs made me go look at the checklist, which I had been avoiding, and while one is obvious for a puzzle, I am wondering which other two titles they used.
I'm wondering if Dave was told 3 different puzzle backs, meaning 3 puzzles to complete with 9 cards, NOT variant backs where there are 9 total puzzles to complete.
I didn't even consider 9 different puzzles to complete - that seems way too out there. I was thinking there might be three different 9 card puzzles on the 27 puzzle pieces, instead of three copies of the same puzzle (like last time). This matters, and I hope we get an answer while there is still time to order more, or I may not be able to help many people.
Thanks for the info Dave. This means more people are going to want complete pencil sets, and I'll be buying more sets to help people out. I hope someone will want some of the rest of the cards I pull!!!
Seems odd for an Old School set to have a non-Topps product as a puzzle, but what the heck, as long as we get great new classic type Wackys.
Will it be during this next week we might see more images of Wacky Packages OS8?

This one was more of a bonus goofy thing. This brand was the major competitor to Chuck E Cheese. It's actually an interesting story. It's also the basis for the hit video game franchise Five Nights At Freddys. And it's a huge '80s icon nowadays so I wanted to get it in. They don't have a lot of products but this watch was a holy grail to win with your tickets.

Nice quote: "FIRST PRIZE IS MIKE!" I thought it was "FIRST PRIZE IS MINE!"
And now that we saw all 30, it could be several months till OS9 gets green lighted and released - maybe it could be a mix of 1960's, 1970's, 1980's, and 1990's Wacky Packages entries (unless OS9 is all 1990's products spoofed Wacky Package style, heck, I want to see a Wacky Packages OS9 take on the Archie Sonic the Hedgehog comic book cover of the 1990's!)

This is a classic example of what I like to call the “What’s Next?” phenomenon that’s become pervasive in society. You’re watching a college football game this Saturday and you’re inundated all game long with little teasers about what’s coming up NEXT Saturday. Like today is already in the books and doesn’t matter anymore. Hello? It’s the first quarter of a scoreless game! During Monday Night Football your attention is brought to what’s coming up on THURSDAY night football. Seriously, WTF? We really need to relish and savor any new WP set that sees the light of day at this point. Do we need a reminder of what’s already happened with ANS, postcards, etc? Stop and smell the Wackys!

This sounds like a fetish that I'm willing to try. :]
Seriously though, well said. We don't even have these Wackys in our hands yet! Patience is a virtue.
Wait for them, open them, study them, laugh at them, critique them, share them, enjoy them, then - as previously mentioned - smell them!
It's neither. It says 1st prize FOR Mike!
He all, I'll post the raffle info tomorrow. My kids want to do it again this year so I'm just figuring out the best day and time.
I thought the raffle was over! Wasn't 1st prize for Mike?Underrated comment.

Only 10??? Wow, I did beat the odds!! I was particularly pleased when I saw Whale-O's, don't think I have any version of that in my collection.
Did a lot of artists do such a limited number of sketches? I put them into pages as I pulled them, not by artists, but I'll have to tally up my pulls.
I'll do more next set. Had too much painting to do.
Hey, if you have any extra base sets I need to get one. I'm not sure Topps saved me any!
Dave, if Pat doesn't have one available, then I do. But she gets first dibs!
Have Dibs been parodied yet?!

I've never seen that product before - that would make a nice Wacky! For a while they were all the rage as a movie theatre treat, I guess by turning ice cream into a finger food, that appealed to some. Didn’t make as much sense for home consumption, as the old bowl-and-spoon model still worked fine. I thought they were way overrated. And these dippin’ dots you see now at malls and vending machines are beyond silly.

Ok, after looking over the set finally (I avoided spoilers) I unfortunately have to rate this as one of the, if not the, weakest old school releases.
Why do I say that? Don't get me wrong, there are some winners included, but overall this is a fail for me, especially for the price. I know this won't be a popular post, but wanted to express my opinion on the set.
No beer? Why not? California Ghouler - why is bottle so small? In fact, most of the stickers have too much white space around them. I'm paying for white space on the stickers? This, after we lost kiss-cut previously? Look at Mr. E, the first sticker. The box should be larger.
The art is weak on some products. Sinnoman, Trapper Keeper, Nervs - not the best, even Mr. Peanut on Puffers doesn't have the right feel to the art. The Choco-Viles character looks like it was drawn in photoshop, sorry.
Too many toys and odd product choices. Slowbiz? Princess Pom-Pom? My Wet Monster? Ugh.
Fartari (snigger, snigger, looool)? Really, you had to go there?...oy vey. As if ANS wasn't enough for potty humor, I thought old school was better than that.
Maybe some of this is due to the focus on 80's products, but whatever the reason, I hope old school 9 gets back on track. Disappointed.
I've not received any cards yet so I can't comment on white space around the cards.
That's something I really don't like about this set - for some reason Topps put numbers on them, and to make room for those the image sizes are really reduced. In my opinion, "Old School" Wackys should NOT have numbers. And the smaller images make it terribly hard for these old eyes to see the details. Here's a pic showing a cereal title from Old School 7 between two cereal titles from Old School 8 - the new ones like album stickers!
(https://i.postimg.cc/QFf3WybX/Old-School-8014.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/QFf3WybX)
Great point! Lose the numbers please. ;)
Can we get a reprint with the numbers removed and the art scaled up?
Question: which part of the 1980s does this series represent - 1980-84 or 1986-89?
If you've got another $200! Remember it costs money to remove things (like sugar, caffeine, gluten, etc.)
And without the numbers, how would there be any logic to Topps' collation.
In my opinion, "Old School" Wackys should NOT have numbers.Yeah, well, technically, "Old School" Wackys should have boxes and packs, too, eh?
Question: which part of the 1980s does this series represent - 1980-84 or 1986-89?1980-1989 :]
Well, I was being slightly facetious because I don't expect a reprint to happen, but the cost wouldn't need to be that high just to adjust the artwork and reprint unless their was a minimum set order or something. Well, it is all just wishful thinking ;D. Sounds like Dave didn't even realize they were going to shrink his artwork down. Wish he would've been able to see it first as I'm sure he would have said something.
All good points. My three cents:It never really crossed my mind that ANS titles were scaled down across the board as opposed to the Beastball example shown to illustrate the minimizing of white space in the OS era. I did notice several cases where long narrow products weren’t distorted to optimize space like they did in OS, but I guess common package shapes ran smaller too. I often had issues seeing details without using a magnifier, but I just chalked that up to modern packaging design being busier than their counterparts of the 70s.
1. I never liked the smaller images/excessive white space either. This was a theme throughout the ANS that always bothered me.

I think that the numbers were in order to duplicate the 1985 series, since that's the one that introduced numbered Wackys, as far as I know.
The reduced size of the images is definitely one of the things that stood out to me in a negative way. Some of the recent ANS might be improved by smaller images, but Dave's art work definitely is hampered by the reduced size. And what's the point of even having numbers anyway when there is a checklist and they're only sold in complete sets? There seems no benefit to Topps and only a significant negative to us collectors, many (all?) of whom are needing glasses without the reduced size any way.

I guess you could argue that the Die Cuts in 1967 and Ads in 1969 were numbered.Wow. Color me red. I guess I have this mental block about the OS being the first ones, but, of course they weren't...sorry, Mike, I blew it, too.
Is there a list of all of the artists that did sketches for this series?
Alex
