Greetings fans of the non sports cards universe! I would like to introduce myself... my name is Greg Panneitz and I just completed the acquisition of the trademark " WEIRD WHEELS" I have been very active with CARtoons magazine for the past 4 years and decided to add more visual art to my toony portfolio. What a better way to feed my cARTistic soul with bringing back such an iconic brand! This will not be one of those..yeah yeah whatever deals, I promise you that! I have been working with original artist Gary Hallgren and he is excited to be a part of this as well! I have also been approached by artists in the industry as well and am super stoked to get this project "rolling" again after almost 40 years!!! Big plans on the board...some familiar and some never been done before in the non sports cards community!!! That is all for now. Thank-you - GP

Great news! Keep us posted.
I really don't remember buying them, but I still have my Weird Wheels cards from way back. At least.... I think I do :]

Will this be a Kickstarter project?
Yes it will be
-
Awesome! Looking forward to hearing more about this project! Can we expect to see the Kickstarter launched this year?
-
Greg, well done! Sounds like you’re going to produce an amazing set.
-
Congrats on resurrecting Weird Wheels! I wrote an article on them for the Wrapper Non Sport magazine back in 2005. I knew of Gary's involvement, but I wasn't sure to what extent. His initials are on two of the cards from the 1980 set. #23 and #46. It was one of the last series that Norm Saunders worked on for Topps. #25 has Norm's signature.

Any updates on this project?
-
Coming very soon!
-
Amazing. Can’t wait. Any teasers you might want to share with us?

Here is the backside of the PHILLY NON-SPORTS CARD SHOW exclusive Weird Wheels promo card being handed out at the gate. The card itself is a temporary tattoo of the wax pack cover for the upcoming set. Be sure to check out the show!

Hey Greg!
Any updates on this set?

Whatever happened with these?

I’ve reached out to Greg a few times with no response. Guessing covid killed this project…..

There's a Weird Wheels sell sheet from 1980 on eBay:

Neil seems to have dipped a little toe into the project. Maybe he can tell us, Neil...?

I talk to Greg from time to time, and his latest reply was that he has been very busy at work, and simply hasn't had time to devote to this project. Over the past 18 months he has definitely come up with a number of new concepts and drawn some nice preliminary roughs. It didn't seem like he was anywhere near completion yet, and I would say its on the back burner for now.

You should have Greg write an update in this thread. There’s obviously interest in this set. Even if it might be still done at some point in the future. It would be great to hear something from him.
-
Yes, well, if I could get him to do what I think he should, then we would have the New Weird Wheels set already! :]

I don't have any current updates, aside from the fact, that Greg is busy with other projects. But hopefully, Weird Wheels will get back on track one day soon!

Hey Neil! Thanks for choking in on this. Hope we hear from Greg soon. This could be a really fun set.

Can you reach out to him again? I’ve tried to DM him with no response.

Well, the wheels are finally turning (pun intended) and we have actually lined up several artists to participate! Many roughs have been drawn, and a couple of paintings have been done. There is still much work to be done, but we are actually in motion finally!

That’s great news. Is the plan for this project to still be released as a Kickstarter? Is there any timeline on release? Thanks for the update!
-
Greg is doing most of the planning himself, but he has said end of this year is likely. He is considering a small test set to gage interest, and then a full one if the first does well. Nothing is set in stone yet, but there's definitely been movement lately!

Great news. Appreciate the update! Keep the updates coming!

Out of curiosity, would collectors prefer to see a small set that came out quicker, or a larger set that took longer?
-
What about the idea of doing a smaller test set like maybe 9 cards initially to gauge interest and then a larger release based on the response?

One thing I would ask Greg is what kind of response he had to the promo card and sticker he produced years ago. He was thinking at one point of having it be a Kickstarter project. I guess knowing what kind of set he wants to produce is the most important. Is it just going to be a base set. Will it have sketches. Will there be inserts? Take a look at the Funny Fiends set produced by Sidekick Labs a few years back. That seemed to have gone well and was fun for collectors at all levels.

This idea is also under consideration!
