Title: Wacky mention on "The Kids Are Alright" TV show
Post by: crackedjerk on February 14, 2019, 08:02:02 PM
ABC has a show that began this fall called "The Kids Are Alright" (https://abc.go.com/shows/the-kids-are-alright).  It's the story of a family with 8 boys set in '72 (though it may have progressed to '73 by now) that's pretty entertaining and accurate, at least to my memory.  On this past week's episode, there was a mention of Wacky Packages.  Some boys are hanging out in front of 7-11 when one says to another something about going inside to buy Wacky Packages.  It was quick, and there was no visual, but fun to hear Wackys mentioned.

I saw that too, the mention is about halfway through the episode. They called them Wacky Packs.

The show seems pretty accurate to me as well. I swear we had the same picture frames and my Mom had collectible spoons hanging on the wall just like on the show. Pretty funny stuff.

Did "That '70s Show" ever mention or show Wackys at all, like this one just did?

Not that I recall, though I only watched the first couple seasons of that show.  I don't remember anyone on any of the boards/forums talking about a mention.

What's really sad is the "comprehensive" series "I Love the 70's" from who was it, VH1?, not once mentioned Wacky Packs.   sad sad sad.

Not that I need one, but this is a good excuse to go back and rewatch THE WONDER YEARS and se if there were any Wacky Packages references.

Love to hear this. Almost everyone I talk to has heard of Garbage Pail Kids, but so few have heard of Wacky Packages. When I try to explain WP, I usually have to refer to them as precursors to GPK so people will understand.
I'm grateful for every pop culture WP reference!
