Release the Kraken!
Yay!!!!!!!!!! I'm so glad you decided to do another one this year :great:
I'm extremely happy, but why is Topps allowing you to do parodies this year, where last year you had to cancel your Halloween parodies last minute?!
I can understand why you're curious, and although I would prefer to avoid politics in this thread, I will say this: The concerns over last year's Halloween set stemmed from one individual who evidently didn't like the idea of me producing them and contacted Topps about it. Topps main concern was over what they perceived as similarities to the Wacky Packages look. There was a lot of points discussed and we maintained good communications, even if we didn't agree on every point. Ultimately, both parties agreed that it was in our best interest if I focused on my work with Topps. So, out of respect, I decided to cancel the 2017 Halloween set and continue working on Topps brands. For the 2018 Halloween release, I intentionally created a set with an entirely different identity, including the name and logo. But however unique it may be, my goal is to maintain a high degree of humor and artistic style that fans will find worthy of collecting for many Halloweens to come...
Enjoy!
Neil
PS - I have a special request: I'd like to focus on the new 2018 release in this thread, so if you want to comment further about last year's release, feel free to do so in a related discussion that can be found in the 2017 thread. Thanks in advance!
Me too ;) ! Halloween wouldn't be the same without something fun to collect!
...they don't A) cause cavities or B) pull fillings from previous Halloween candy binges.
I don't check the forums much, but came by as it was the time of year for a Halloween set. I hope I don't miss it. I was sad when last year's set didn't happen.
I'll be posting ordering info this week, so keep your eyes peeled!I will!
Hi all,
Great news! I've got some wacky friends helping out with this year's release - some familiar names and a few new ones! Should be a horrifyingly fun set! I'll be posting ordering info this week, so keep your eyes peeled!
Nah. I think Neil has locked himself in his private "sketchatorium" and will not surface until he has created enough masterpieces to make this set the best it can be!
$9.50 per pack.Sounds great, Neil, but is that pricing schedule correct? You save a dollar if you buy two packs, but nothing further if you buy three? Just verifying...
$18.00 per 2 pack purchase.
$27.50 for a 3 pack purchase.

So does 1 pack contain a complete set?
[/quote
Typically, it takes 3 packs to get a complete set, since there are some cards that are randomly inserted
So, I'm assuming this is the midnight that separates Saturday from Sunday. (One could argue that Oct. 7 midnight would be the midnight that separates Sunday from Monday, and I don't want to miss out!) How exactly do we "buy" them? Do we PM you and tell you how many we want at that time?

I am salivating like Pavlov's Dog!!!
sent for 3 sets!! >:D >:D >:DMe too! PM sent. Thanks Neil.
I fell asleep :-[ Hopefully there were still a few left when I woke up a at 2:12 >(
Ha! That's just about when i was got to bed! And yes, I've got 3 packs reserved for you!
Don't feel bad... I started to watch SNL to carry me over until midnight and fell asleep on my recliner and didn't wake up until 8 am since everyone else had gone up to bed. I think this is mostly a comment on old age and secondy on how uninteresting SNL was. I was glad that Neil reassured me there were still packs available. Saw a comment recently, "I used to sneak out to go to parties and stay out late. Now I sneak out of parties to go home early".
I'm proud to announce a couple of new additions to the writing team for "Cleanup On Aisle 13": Robert Hall and Mike DePaz!!!They're both familiar faces on the forum and incredibly talented writers! I know you're going to enjoy their work!
Just received my first Halloween Trick or Treat for the season
(https://i.postimg.cc/B6MRVTPF/13.jpg)
Got mine today too! What's that orange card in the back? I didn't get one of those.an orange slip of paper with special thanks and the artist/writer credits. seems like that would be in everyone's envelope
Got mine Thanks!! But if any of you hate Brain Blo or Gooey Looie don't blame Paul. Those are both mine, concept and art.
I'm hoping for tomorrow!
I haven't received mine yet. Maybe in today's mail.
Still waiting to see what becomes of last year's set, though........

Got mine yesterday. Great job, Neil, et al. As usual, fun jokes and excellent art work by all the artists involved on the project. I also thought the puzzle pieces on the backs were a nice touch. Thanks for making Halloween special for all of us here on the Forum. Still waiting to see what becomes of last year's set, though........
What's the checklist for this set? I have:
But A Finger
Junior Mutants
Rots
Brain-Blo
Mr. Crowbar (I have two of these if someone wants to trade)
Gooey-Louie
Skull
Swampson
Creepytime
Very well done! Nice gags, artwork, and packaging. With their enlarged illustrations, the six major cards (candy/puzzle cards) really jump out at you. (I believe this was what the thin black borders were supposed to do, though they never quite seem to achieve the same effect.) The puzzle was also a nice surprise. Overall, very well designed and produced. Very professional. I am even more appreciative when I consider that this set is a labor of love, simply conceived for us to revel in the wacky spirit of Halloween and put a smile on everyone's face. Thank you, everyone!
Got my packs yesterday - fantastic job! Thanks to everyone involved in giving us this special Halloween treat. I'll scan my sketch when I get home today.

What real products do they spoof?
I need rots and Creepytime, I have Butafinger, Skull Mr. Crowbar Brain blo and Gooey Looie to trade.
I'm making a list as to who wants to join me in the Pumpkin Patch this Halloween, to wait for the Great Pumpkin
to come down and visit the best pumpkin patch and bring candy and presents to all the good boys and girls!
I'm sure I can get my great friend, All-Brain, to join me, any others? Hopefully the World Series will be
over by then (with the BoSox winners!)!

Did you accidentally get doubles in the 3 packs you bought? Just curious how some people need to trade cards if they bought 3 packs.
My 3 packs came out just right, with no extras to trade.
ButterfingerAll of these I know, except for Chewy-Louie. What exactly is this product-a candy or a gum? Or is it something else altogether?
Junior Mints
Dots
Rain-Blo Gum
Hershey's Mr. Goodbar
Chewy Louie
Hershey's Skor
Swanson Broth
Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime Tea
okay, here's the plan.... I hope to see everyone join me in the Pumpkin Patch (instead of silly ol' candy collecting door to door) and we'll wait for the Great Pumpkin to come down and bring us lots of candy and toys and everything, as I know we have the BEST pumpkin patch in the WHOLE WIDE WORLD this year!
All of these I know, except for Chewy-Louie. What exactly is this product-a candy or a gum? Or is it something else altogether?
Neil,Thanks, Jason. I've seen a lot of candy and gum products in my time, but never this one.
You did a parody of Chewy-Louie?! I assume that one was in reference to the wrapper from my collection and archives. I don't know of another example out there in the world.

Fox-Cross Candy - Chewy-Louie candy wrapper - 1940's 1950's (https://flic.kr/p/92ETMw) by Jason Liebig (https://www.flickr.com/photos/jasonliebigstuff/), on Flickr
Chewy-Louie was a clear knockoff of Schutter's Bit-O-Honey at the time, as the wrapper design and colors were dead on "inspired-by", but Fox-Cross was not just a manufacturer with copycat products as they were also the longtime (and, I believe original) manufacturers of Charleston Chew.
Yes, I like vintage candy packaging. That one was in the files for awhile and seemed like a good one for the Halloween set.

Speaking of SET, anyway we can get some nice pics of the original art? That Creepytime is Awesome! (it is my computer wallpaper) Need to see the others...please

"Clean Up on Aisle 13" breaks record!
If you look down at the very bottom of the main forum screen (where it states who is logged in, etc.,) you'll notice the most online ever was "143." Now look at the date beside the number. It seems the last midnight madness sale broke the all time record! Congratulations, Neil!
Thanks Rob! I couldn't have done it without you (and 142 others)!
I'm curious about the technical aspects of putting together a small print run set like this. Do you print the cards yourself or is there a service you use?
When I've looked at having cards printed by large presses, they charged basically the same rate for 1000 cards and 100 cards.
Good question! The primary reason I do these small releases is for the fans. While they may not make any money (apart from maybe the original art sales), I definitely think it's worth it! As far as production, I prefer to do most of the work myself to keep costs down and maintain quality control. Printing costs all depend on the size of the run, the number of cards and the stock you choose. Because I like to print offset (a pre-digital standard), I have to do minimum runs, so I pay more overall, but the price per card is less and the quality of the product is much, much better than digital. Anyway, if you ever decide to do a set, I'll be happy to discuss with you in more detail. Just be ready for a lot of work but a lot of enjoyment!
