These new Topps Online store daily Wacky Packages have been fun, but as every one has noted, they cost a LOT! Unless you buy in bulk....
So, I'm ready to head up a bulk buyer's club - if there's enough interest - for the next print-on-demand series starting next week (1/24/17), for just the new Wacky Package cards released (no GPK)
The key though is that we have dedicated, consistent buyers. You'd have to buy them all, and couldn't pick and choose only the ones that you like.
As was mentioned over in the print-on-demand thread, there's a large discount when buying the print-on-demand cards in bulk (1/2 price or less) when compared to a single card purchase.
The idea is that we can pull together at least 10 purchasers, to drop the price from $10 to $5/card.
And if we can pull together 20 purchasers, it would drop it to $4/card.
The crux of the problem is the cost to re-mail the cards back out to everyone. My idea to minimize that is one shipment for a weekly set of cards. With all the week's cards together, it lowers the postage cost per card. Checking some prices online, it looks like I can do postage, mailer, top-loaders, penny sleeves, for about $3.50.
With the current Disg-race cards, they have been very consistent of late with 3 cards per week. Disg-race ends this week and a new set starts next week. (I'll guess a name of "The First 100 Daze"). Dave G. wasn't sure what form next week will take, but I think at this point we'll have to guess 3 new Wacky cards.
Something to be aware of is how long it'll be before you'll get your cards. They already take forever to ship when using smart-post. The recent ones have taken 2 weeks to get delivered to me after their on-sale date! Add a few more days before all cards for the week show up, and several more days after I re-mail them before they get to you. Looking at ~3.5 weeks from the on-sale date.
My plan:
1. Form Wacky Packages buyer's club member list
if there are 10 (or 20) cards allotted for, then -
2. Collect all the dues for the forthcoming 2 weeks
if, and only if, everyone paid up, then -
3. Purchase bulk set of just the Wacky on each day for the week and post notice of purchases
(if everyone doesn't pay in time, I'll have to forego the purchase though. I don't want to get stuck with extras. I'll post an early notice and refund everyone).
4. After 2 week's worth of Wackys have arrived, I'll pack them up and mail them out to everyone.
5. Rinse and repeat - for as long as Topps is producing these cards and we have enough members in the Club to make it worthwhile.
Example cost for getting singles of each Wacky, if Topps produces 10 cards across 2 weeks:
if we have a 10 card bulk buy - it would be $53.50 for 10 cards mailed
for a 20 card bulk buy - it would be $43.50 for 10 cards mailed

The crux of the problem is the cost to re-mail the cards back out to everyone. My idea to minimize that is one shipment of the weekly lot of cards. And thanks for your idea - and for doing this. It has really bothered me - and Mr. Wallet - being gouged week after week for a set of cards that, under normal circumstances, might cost $20 - $30 on eBay if they were simply released as, say, a subset of a larger set (which, in actuality, they are.)
Also, it must be very clear and understood that we all must be faithful in paying up front. No exceptions, please. I really like this plan a lot and would like to rely and depend upon it. Besides, I'd hate to go back to having purchase individual cards on a daily basis. (And everyone please take a moment to thank the Good Lord above for the small miracle that Topps isn't releasing the 50th anniversary set as separate $9.99 cards. I mean, could you imagine?)

I consider them to be a small perk you get for purchasing these high end cards. I don't think they add too much weight; but I could be wrong. Whatever is best for the group though.

I expect there will be only one acrylic box per order.
A big thank you to Patrick for doing this! I would have offered to do it myself, but I have to pay sales tax, which just boosts the price.

those snap boxes are nice, but as Pat indicated, that's not going to be possible when distributing single bulk order purchases out to 8 members in the club.
I was going to propose going in the other direction actually. I've got a good pile of 'used' top loaders around. (why, oh why, do people use cellophane tape on these when shipping? it never comes off and they're ruined!!). If people don't mind ugly toploaders, I'd knock 50¢ off a week until I used them all up in a few weeks. Two cards can easily fit in one toploader, so I'd double up where possible as well.
My thought with this club is minimizing the price/card for everyone. Then how to display or store is up to you.

Options would be to ship every 3-4 weeks, with 10 cards in a snap case. Or still ship weekly or bi-weekly and round robin between toploaders and snap cases as they arrive.

Meaning it will almost certainly be just like the Golden Globes, Christmas, etc. special 'event' card sets.
Those 'event' sets were on sale for 1 week and there was NO bulk discount offered.
If there is NO bulk discount with "Inauguration", then the Wackys from the 'event' set will NOT be a part of our Buyer's Club.
Meaning, you will be on your own to purchase any special 'event' cards that do not offer bulk discount, tomorrow or down the road.
We will see for sure on Monday, but I want to give everyone a head's up on this scenario.
I don't think I can factor in the higher cost of these special 'event' sets, as we don't know if there will be one or more Wackys in them ahead of time. So, it will be far easier if I don't. There's also no benefit to routing these 'event' cards to me before they go to you and you might even get a snap case out of it too (for those desiring them)
Let me know if there's any questions or concerns on this, and if you all feel this is a good plan.

also, so there's no confusion later, I believe the word 'gift' is gone from the PayPal types.
It is the "Send to Friends and Family in the US" option.
Do not use the "Pay for Goods or Services" option.

Those 3 wackys are the ones I mentioned above. They are part of an 'Event' set, Inaug-hurl, which are available for a full week (vice 24 hours).
There are no discounts for these, so they will NOT be part of our club's first order.
If you want some, none or all, you are on your own.

Dave did the t-shirt and mask/costume. The Girl Scout cookies are Joe Simko.
Joe's painted many of the recent ones, and Dave did most of the early ones. Neil and Smokin Joe each have a title as well.

I did that one. From what I understand there will be gags based on his Twitter comments with new art for each based on those comments.
If all this sells well enough I'm trying to see if they will do a once a week Old School online set with a 32 card ending time for each series. Do an 80s set, maybe a 1968 set for the die-cut period and maybe even a 1950s set. Gonna be awhile before anything like that happens though. Gotta finish the current Old School set still!

I think I would favor including the TWISTER also. Seems to fit in with the Internet Apps subset from several series ago.

I agree with Scot in that the Twitster card resembles the Internet App subset. If there is going to be a Twitster series, though, I suggest that a second club is formed for that series, and we reserve the first club for Wackys alone.

My vote is that we stick with the Wackys for right now. After the week is over and the dust settles, we can see (hopefully) what the pattern is going to be for the weeks to come. If we were to change now, in the middle of the week, poor Patrick is going to find himself thrown in the middle of a big mess.

Thanks Rob, that was well thought out and captured much of what I've been thinking.
I formed the Club to buy just the Wackys and several others joined for that same reason as well. The Twitster card is not Wacky branded and it will be its own thing. While the card does hearken back to some aspects of old ANS Wacky backs, that's not defining as many ANS gpk's had similar backs (websites, etc.), so it's not one or the other.
If folks want to pick one up, you'll need to do it on your own.
And we can discuss more in the coming days.

I think they mislabeled the Hawaiian Punk Card as it looks nothing like a GPK card and sure looks like a Wacky. I vote we include it in the bulk purchases.
If not I will be purchasing it so I need to know where we land on this one while it is still available.

It will be ironic if we end up with twice as many Wackies per week (6) as before (3) and end up paying the same amount per week (Or a little less) even though we are getting them for less than half-price. This development makes the Bulk Buyer's Club the best move ever!

Yes, this is getting a bit tricky and messy. We've already spent 2/3 of our two week funds in two days. In addition, we can't rely upon a pattern - at least for the moment. Who would have saw this coming? I guess we have no choice but to play it day by day. Pat, you're the ref and making all the calls. Please let us know whether or not to send more money - or if we're on our own buying a particular card. If the same thing happens again tomorrow, our club's kitty will be bankrupt - and there will still be a third card up for grabs.

After Dave mentioned there may be several new categories, that got me concerned. I figured it was better to cover more cards up front and then watch how the week played out. I was thinking 2 cards a day over 3 days and we're almost there.
Have to see how the rest of the week plays out and then prep for the next round this weekend.

To my perception: Thin Border Wackies are "Wackies Light". Something derived from the original; but a new version. I too prefer the thicker borders.

In my opinion, I'd be surprised if the buying-or-not-buying factor of Wacky Packages in 2017 is art-to-card size ratio. This seems to be a case of a legit problem (not enough people wanting to buy the product) with a solution (thin borders) that doesn't actually address the problem, and in fact weakens the product overall. It merely makes a change for changes sake, and in the process creates a less-effectively designed product.
I appreciate the demands of increasing sales and trying to do things differently to achieve that, but sometimes the approach to that goal is misguided. This design choice certainly seems like a case of that.
I'd be curious to know how they came to the decision (consumer testing, etc), because even testing can have numerous pitfalls if you don't know how to interpret the data (i.e. New Coke). My guess is that this was the probably the choice of an art director, or someone making the decisions of one.

Well, they have put Coke in different color cans. Organic Coca-Cola came with a green background logo and was/is called Coca-Cola Life. So there are reasons. But they still kept that great old type-face logo and still called back to the classic bottle shape.
But you raise a great point and that is the perception that these are old-fashioned. We have someone perceives Wacky Packages as "a bit old-fashioned", and I'd say that's a great starting point to problem solve (if that someone is a lot of people). Does a thin border mean modern? I'd be shocked if that were the case, but I'm open to the information if that is what makes them "old-fashioned" somehow. To me, thinning the border (or getting rid of it entirely) seems more arbitrary than directed. But again, maybe there's a series of focus groups that decided Thick Border = Old, Thin Border = New.
My guess would be that, rather than an iconic border thickness being the thing that makes these old fashioned, it may be the fundamental nature of trading cards/stickers at all, that makes them that. And a border doesn't solve that fundamental problem.
I'd also posit that, if you look at what hip-hop artwork and graphitti artwork looks like - the design elements that are most often used within it; it all has thick BOLD borders. So, I would take the position and argue that the fat black border design element is the MOST contemporary aspect of Wacky Packages. And in an effort to make them "modern" (if that was indeed the goal of removing it) they have stripped away the singular aspect of Wacky Package that was already visually contemporary. :-) Ahem.

So we got 6 cards in one week instead of the two weeks we were planning.
Not sure if getting 6 this week was luck or not, but makes future planning a little easier.
Sending cards out every 2 weeks still has benefits for reduce costs for shipping though, but with a higher card count per envelope I'll have to check for increased postage.
I need to check that before the weekend so we can plan this out smartly.

While I will always prefer the old thick black borders, for nostalgic or whatever reasons, IMHO, the black "canvas" alternates were by far the best Topps gave us. Sometimes the art really pops!!

Well black canvas is definitely an option. When you see the new stickers, you'll see there's very little white outside the border and that the art is huge. Also I believe they won't be numbered, which would be cool. I have a painting in the set and Topps was very specific about filling the entire card. I'm really excited to see how it comes out!

Meant to post something earlier in the day - but had to deal with a shut off valve for the water line to fridge's ice maker. As I turned the spigot on the valve to the 'off' position, it decided to sheer off instead shut off. I had to make a mad dash to the main line to shut the water off and then multiple trips to the hardware store after that. Still more work to do to fix it completely.
Anyways.
I propose the next payment to cover a single week of cards, just next week.
And after that, we'll step up to payments to cover 2 full weeks at a time.
Shipping will still be done after this first 2 week increment of cards has arrived.
I also believe it's good to add some buffer in the payment, to alleviate concerns (of my own and others) of running short before the week is done.
So instead of pre-paying for 6 cards, I'd like to go with 8.
I spent some time at the post office this morning, weighing different configurations of packages, and found a configuration that didn't change anyone's postage (except for Zen), even though there are more cards.
I'll send PM's to everyone with the details, but expect essentially a request of $32 for each 8 card group. There are exceptions with a few folks, so wait for the PM.

I have hard water(lots o minerals) so all of the old fashioned shut offs pretty much are useless as they get stuck in place, don't shut off the water completely or break when you turn them and start leaking. I just hired a local handyman who is great with plumbing to replace the shut off valve for all water feeds to my sinks and toilets and to the outside the house water feeds with current ball valves(14 total replacements). Through the process, found out three of them were on the verge of leaking and wouldn't turn at all.

Can I assume the Bulk Buyers Club is purchasing these three cards today? They look like WP, although they don't state so. On the "24 Hours" thread, SlamJim refers to them as WP.
If not, I'll be spending $30 tonight. On another note, I feel no qualms at all about spending $10 on Bowie. The card is very well rendered, and I'm glad to see the Thin White Duke made it into the WP pantheon.

The Shammys 2017 are another "Event" set - which are offered for a week, and do *not* have a bulk discount. Same as we've seen with the earlier Inauguration, Christmas, etc. We'll probably see them again for other Holidays and Events (e.g. Oscars)
Since there is no bulk discount, these are NOT part of the Buyer's Club.
Everyone is on their own with these cards.

Correct. Those first 3 are Wackys, and labeled as such, so are part of the Club buy. That 4th is a Twitter, not a Wacky, and the Club majority decided these therefore should not be part of the group buy.

I would suggest 16 (or even 18) plus the two IOUs.
Since we've begun the club, no definitive pattern with card releases has developed and we never really know what to expect. I'd rather have extra money in the bank that spills over from one week to the next, rather than coming up short. Patrick was generous enough to front us the extra money this time around - thank you, Patrick, and sorry for speaking of you in the third person - however 1) Patrick shouldn't be expected to fork out his own money, 2) a situation may arise in which he doesn't have the luxury of extra money, 3) payment is OUR responsibility, and 4) sometimes situations get "tricky" when money is lent on terms of good faith - and I wouldn't like to see the club fall apart over any disagreements and/or misunderstandings. Patrick is doing a lot on our behalf, and he really shouldn't have to bear any extra aggravation if something were to go awry.
In addition, if we play it close with no extra money in the bank (like this week,) there is the possibility that we might get slammed next time not with 2 extra IOU cards, but maybe 4 or 6 or 8. Who knows? We really can't be certain. And then maybe we would have to purchase these cards on our own - at full price. Which I'd rather not.

seem to be getting a consensus on going to a higher card count plus ensuring some padding on top of that.
I think I'll go with 16, and include the 2 IOU on top of that for this weekend's payment. I'll send out PMs on Saturday.
And then maybe we would have to purchase these cards on our own - at full price. Which I'd rather not.
While maybe not necessarily the preferred way to do things, my having to step in and pick up one or two 'overage' cards at the end of an increment I don't foresee ever being a show stopper for the Club. I know you all will be good for the re-payment.
And if some sort of problem does crop up, there should be enough time to work something out before the 'end-of-sale' time to ensure folks will never have to resort to trying to pick something up through the second hand market. That would not be fun for anyone. >(

And then the free shipping takes a full week to get from Florida to Texas through whatever slow as molasses process they have going on.
So the first order for cards #1-3 was back on W 2/22.
They weren't even printed and shipped until the following week on T 2/28.
And the slow-poke FedEx arrival date of the package is not until T 3/7.
Almost 2 weeks from order to mailbox.
So FYI, it's going to be awhile before everyone gets Increment 3.

And although I'm sure you meant well, you really didn't have to trouble yourself whitening out the typos, correcting them with a Sharpie, and then wrapping clear tape around the cards to ensure the corrections remain permanent. I mean, you really shouldn't have. On the other hand, this might make them worth more some day. Oh, well, we can always blame it on the Guinness, I suppose!

I don't believe so. The "Thank Me Tour" title is dated 12/06/16. Patrick first suggested the idea of a Bulk Buyer Club over a month later on January 18th. The "Alternative Tally Counter" is the first title the Club purchased and is dated 1/22/17. If you back to page 4 of this thread, you'll find the first of the increment lists that Patrick has been posting detailing the purchases of the BBC. From there, you can go and see everything purchased up until yesterday.

Got them yesterday. Many thanks to Patrick. I count 64 On-Line Only Wacky Pack cards in my binder at present from all of the on-line offerings except the Lynch Tribute set. That number will be 80 when the next 16 arrive. This collection is growing rapidly. Very happy about the buyer's club.

If the "plan" is to simply follow the news and hope that some celebrity will do something absurd or a member of the Trump camp will say something outrageous, I would say the plan is, through its very nature, rather unreliable, and consequently, weak.
I do like some of the 24 hour titles, but some part of me secretly wishes that Topps will just put an end to this experiment (for, in essence, that's what it is, e.g. "Twitster") and just go back to releasing sets on a periodic basis. And I've a strong feeling I'm not alone in this regard. It feels like we're pigeons pecking at whatever is being thrown to us, whenever it is being thrown to us. I think we would all be more comfortable, though, with premium seed on a fixed schedule.
On another note, would anyone happen to know how much proceeds was generated from the Jay Lynch Tribute Set - and how Topps plans on utilizing said funds? Just curious.

All of these were produced by JungHwa Im. (if I'm not mistaken)
Her recent cards - like yesterday's Puma ad and the movie ticket - have become the lowest selling cards yet - at just 168.
Which means that our 20 card bulk buys yesterday were a noticable percentage of their sales!
Money talks, and I think we could send a strong signal to Topps that fans don't support her work or these half-baked ideas, if we chose at this point to stop buying cards done by her.
We would continue to buy the great pieces from Dave Gross, Neil Camera, Smokin' Joe, Joe Grossberg, Brent Engstrom, Joe Simko, et al. - showing that fans do support these Print on Demand cards - as long as they have the high quality artwork, with strong concepts, that the Wacky brand has been known for.
This would be a huge and surely controversial change to what we've been doing, but we reached the point today where it's clearly time for the Club to discuss the continued purchasing of cards done by JungHwa Im.
I'd like to hear what everyone has to say.

I certainly don't want to complicate what Patrick is doing for all of us, but I would be fine with a general policy to NOT include JungHwa Im titles, just as we are excluding some other items, such as the ones with no bulk discount.

Well, this is a dilemma. Lots to think about, with several points for everyone to consider.

I have mixed feelings. I am not a fan of a lot of the titles this artist has produced. But if the club does not purchase them, I will probably purchase on my own for completeness. I would rather be purchasing these at club price rather than full price.

I have mixed feelings. I am not a fan of a lot of the titles this artist has produced. But if the club does not purchase them, I will probably purchase on my own for completeness. I would rather be purchasing these at club price rather than full price.
I'm with Scot. Her work is abysmal, but I want all of the cards - not just the ones I think are cool. They're official, they have bulk pricing, so they're in, IMO.

Wait (Part 1)
I suggest that we wait.
("What?" the other forum members cried. "What an idiot! This lunatic rants and raves on and on and on the night before, and now he suggests that we simply wait?")
Yes, I suggest we wait. Right now, the BBC is divided into two camps, which, for purposes of clarification, I will call the "completists" and the "dissidents." At the moment, we are smack in the middle of another increment. I don't think it would be fair or respectful to the completists if the dissidents voted to stop purchasing specific cards at this point. Moreover, I believe it would shatter and destroy their expectations. If a change is to occur, I suggest it occur between increments.
Completists and Dissidents
Being we are divided into two groups, if one group wins, the other must lose - and I don't think anyone here wants to see that happen.
I would suggest the following...
Divide the BBC into two distinct camps. The completists will receive all of the Wacky titles in a given increment, while the dissidents will only receive select titles. Of course, this would mean a little more work for Patrick, but not too much work. (Sorry for speaking of you in the third person again, Patrick.) By way of illustration, if the group were to be divided as thus:
Completists: 8
Dissidents: 12
Patrick could then keep the completists' bank at 18, and, say, the dissidents' bank at 14. The same thing, always, week after week after week. One group will get charged one figure, the second group another figure. One group will receive all of the Wacky titles, the second group will receive a portion of the titles. This would be entirely up to Patrick, though. I only suggest it because, from what I've seen, Patrick is very methodical, a problem solver, and I don't believe this would present a great challenge to him.
(Mind, I'm not trying to stick everything on poor Patrick. If necessary, I could take over one of camps.)
If the dissidents choose to eliminate some titles from the bimonthly increments, it must be understood that we go along with and respect Patrick's decisions as to what titles are purchased and what titles are ignored. We cannot haunt and PM him everyday, saying, "Get this title!" or "Don't buy that title!" The decision must be Patrick's, and his alone. Personally, I have faith and confidence in his judgment. And if, by chance, an "ignored" title jumps out at me that I simply "cannot live without," it will be up to me to purchase that title on my own. Patrick is pretty good about making our purchases within the first few hours. That leaves more than ample time for anyone to make any additional purchases on their own.
Wait (Part 2)
I also suggest we wait to see what changes Topps has in store for us being "Trumpocracy: The First 100 Days" is coming to a close. Before we make any great changes, let us first see what happens. During the past few months, I received great titles and piss-poor titles. I don't think another week of two is going to make that much of a difference.
My Decision
Although I am a completist, and it really bugs me not to be, I am joining the dissidents. To be honest, I wish that Topps had never put me in this position - but I must face reality.
Postscript
I can rant and rave from my armchair all I want, but to be honest, it is highly unlikely that I will ever be able to paint some of the figures that JungHwa Im paints. What's more, during the past few years, her work has also improved. You can tell the difference between her rushed titles and the titles she obviously spent more time on. It's just this damned, unrelenting, 24 hour "thumbscrew" business that Topps is continuously applying to its writers and artists. It's the same old "quantity" vs "quality" thing - along with the one result it always yields: an inferior product. And when the inferior product is just 10% or 5% of the original product, something is very, very wrong. And, yes, I agree. A message must be sent to Topps. And if some artists are shunned, then they are shunned. It was their decision to sell out and produce rushed, inferior work. Just the other day, an artist was saying how he had spent the entire weekend working on one title. Probably morning, noon, and night. But, you know what? That's what it often takes: sacrifice. And I believe a true artist, a committed artist, a devoted artist, would rather sacrifice his or her own effort and time - in fact, its probably not even a choice - than sacrifice their art, the very creation to which they have given birth. They are going to take the time to add that extra brushstroke that may not even be noticed. They may not want to, but they have to. That is their nature; It's in their blood. And that's what gives us the artists that Patrick mentioned earlier, the artists who we respect and admire - and deservedly so.

I hate to say this but her artwork on the 50th was not that great and border on amateur. The computer execution on these gags were just plain bad. It totally took away from the charm and passion put into past series. From what Ive read, she has not been there too long either.
There is something to be said about hand painting a wacky then totally resorting to computer rendering. I know for small type its totally needed and makes sense, but not for the overall graphics.

While the output remains high, the gags, content, execution are piss poor. This really gives the Wacky brand a black eye. Apart from some great executions from Neil, this overall has been a dire series. I keep having some hope for some good ones but it gets worse with time.
Seriously folks, these are not the Wackys we love. Its like a group of people up in Topps sitting around and making stuff up without any proper brainstorming, slapping some stuff in Photoshop and cranking it out for $10. Its really sad state they we are the relative minority that has to see this stuff pass off as funny Wacky's

After a weekend filled with many PMs and back-n-forths, the Club has successfully survived through the big transition. The original Club group is all still here, and a mini-Club has now sprouted its wings. For my own amusement, I've called the two the Economy and the Premiere Clubs.
Also, special shout outs and "thank you's" to Zenergizer (Paul) and vahsurfer (Richard), who helped out tremendously in the last minute to make this work, just when it looked like the whole thing was all going to fall apart.
Increment 8 looks to be off to a great start! The card count so far is very low, which I think is great for everyone.
Topps Now Rewards
As was posted over on the 24 Hour thread, there is a new thing Topps has started - Topps Now Rewards. A program where buyers accumulate points for purchasing the NOW cards. After enough points are accumulated, points are redeemed for a coupon or baseball card.
I signed up to see what would happen, and as it turns out, the daily Wacky card purchases are valid for this program.
So that's cool.
Wackys aren't excluded.
The messy bit, because of course there is a messy bit, is what to do with the points.
One option - would be for me to figure out how to divvy up these discounts of $10 (or $20) - after one has been earned after a few weeks or a month - amongst the 16 people in the Club - who are now all buying different quantities of cards. Estimating $1 every few weeks or month, +/- some ¢ depending if you're Economy or Premiere, singles or doubles.
Another option - would be for the Club members to graciously let the Club owner keep the points as a perk for organizing and running this PoD BBC since January.

Topps Now Rewards
As was posted over on the 24 Hour thread, there is a new thing Topps has started - Topps Now Rewards. A program where buyers accumulate points for purchasing the NOW cards. After enough points are accumulated, points are redeemed for a coupon or baseball card.
I signed up to see what would happen, and as it turns out, the daily Wacky card purchases are valid for this program.
So that's cool.
Wackys aren't excluded.
The messy bit, because of course there is a messy bit, is what to do with the points.
One option - would be for me to figure out how to divvy up these discounts of $10 (or $20) - after one has been earned after a few weeks or a month - amongst the 16 people in the Club - who are now all buying different quantities of cards. Estimating $1 every few weeks or month, +/- some ¢ depending if you're Economy or Premiere, singles or doubles.
Another option - would be for the Club members to graciously let the Club owner keep the points as a perk for organizing and running this PoD BBC since January.
I endorse the second option... 8)
Patrick, I don't know how others feel but I would not begrudge you keeping the points for yourself as reward for organizing, implementing and agonizing over the buyers clubs.

After a weekend filled with many PMs and back-n-forths, the Club has successfully survived through the big transition. The original Club group is all still here, and a mini-Club has now sprouted its wings. For my own amusement, I've called the two the Economy and the Premiere Clubs.
Also, special shout outs and "thank you's" to Zenergizer (Paul) and vahsurfer (Richard), who helped out tremendously in the last minute to make this work, just when it looked like the whole thing was all going to fall apart.

Or even slow it down to a snail's pace. As it now stands, it feels like we are under assault or drowning in a sickening, murky deluge.
One political parody a week wouldn't be so bad - providing the titles are not rushed and the humor is actually humorous and non-repetitive. (Come on, we really don't need a new Trump "checklist" parody week after week. And what really worries me is how many of next week's satires are going to be focused on FBI Director James Comey. Here's a novel idea: One title will suffice.) More importantly, the titles must be products - actual products - not lists, memos, or nonexistent products, etc.. The name of the 50 year old series is "Wacky Packages," yes? Products that come in packages? And real products, at that - a precedent that has been established by hundreds upon hundreds of Wackys over the years.
As an aside, when I was at the Allentown Show, I had the opportunity to view many original Wacky paintings, sketches, and roughs, courtesy of Smokin' Joe, Chad Scheres, George Wright, etc.. Many things stood out for me, however, one thing in particular was the incredible amount of time, effort, thought, and concern that was obviously put into these pieces. You could see it in the artwork and hear it in the artists' explanations as to why they did this in such-and-such a way or why they opted for a particular kind of paint. It may sound corny, but each of these pieces was obviously a labor of love for those who created them. Everything was well thought out - from how a viewer might perceive a title on a subconscious level to what shade of pink would produce the best radiant "glow" in a bottle of mouthwash or how a character might be better received if rendered in more of a comic fashion. (All of these examples are from actual conversations with the artists.)
Since the show, I can better appreciate why personal sets by George Wright (Galactic Groceries,) Neil Camera (Pranky Products,) and Smokin' Joe (Wicked Packages) are seemingly always ongoing and take "forever" to produce. But do you know what, though? If time is what it takes to produce the kind of quality pieces that I've grown to expect, admire, and appreciate from such artists, then I'm willing to wait. That is one of the reasons why the suggestion posted earlier by SlamJim makes so much sense: In order to achieve quality, one must slow down the pace. There's a sound reason why the adage "haste makes waste" is part of our vocabulary. We are now seeing it happen right before our very eyes.
Lastly, like others have also so recently mentioned, I agree that the political humor doesn't always have to be so mean-spirited and have such a biting, sharp "edge." What's wrong with just "silly?" Or has plain, simple "silliness" now become weak and lackluster, a Norman Rockwellian "innocence" now consigned to a past era in our present society? (Hell, we all need to get together, buy up Topps' stock on the sly, and then appoint Richard Thomas, a.k.a. John-Boy Walton, as art director.)

I suppose the one thing you can say about them is; at least the political ones are being created for a series that is literally meant to be just that - Wackys about our current political process and goings-ons. I'm not a big fan of them, myself.
On the other side, it's important to keep in mind that parody and humor has a long history of also stating strong political messages and points-of-view, when those things need to be said. Vietnam-era Mad magazine, for instance, could state incredibly dark and powerful anti-war and anti-government messages at times (it wasn't all movie parodies, The Lighter Side of... and Spy Vs Spy, especially then). And Jay Lynch himself was (to me anyway) clearly an anti-war guy and in many cases an anti capitalism and anti-corporate imperialism guy who lent his work to protest efforts around the globe. His creative voice could be found as one of protest against what he saw as injustice around the globe. It wasn't just clever wordplay and tightly-rendered versions of goofy characters making fun of consumer products. He had a specific point-of-view and a unique way to say something about it.
For his part, even Norman Rockwell created powerful political pieces for his more innocent (yet plagued with racial and social injustice) era... some that might even seem controversial to many in our charged society today:

Yes, "Mad" was definitely politically charged in the 60s and 70s - as were the times. And certain sides of Jay Lynch, I would say, gravitated toward anti-capitalism and anti-corporate imperialism. Wacky Packages are a testament to this. So, if the humor we grew up with was good enough for us then - sometimes political, anti-capitalist, and anti-corporate - we do we rant about it now?
Fifty years after the advent of Wackys, I think a lot of people - particularly the older generation that makes up a lot of the WP forum - tend to view the 60s and 70s through an idealized and romanticized lens, a child-like perspective of innocence. But then and again, we were, after all, children at the time. No, I don't believe the past was a completely innocent age of red, white, and blue festooned bicycles parading down Main Street on the 4th of July, firemen rescuing cats from trees, or walking barefoot along dusty country roads at the base of Walton Mountain. (But perhaps it should have been.)
Wacky Packages, like "Mad" magazine, GPK, comics, Disney World, cruises, camping, and so, so many other things are a form of escape. A place to simply get away. Yet, when we try to get away from the perpetual onslaught of today's politics by retreating into Wacky-Land, the politics just follow us en masse through the gate.
None of us should be surprised when the latest 24 hour "Trumpocracy" and "Network Spews" offerings feature political and social humor. I mean, the site does state "Trumpocracy" and "Network Spews." I just believe that many of us, if given a choice, simply don't prefer them. And we reason that if Topps can spend time and energy creating these parodies, they could just as easily create and release "traditional" Wacky Packages. (Which they could.) Instead, they slap the moniker "Wacky Packages" on the political/social sets, tease and bait us with some actual product parodies, and sometimes give us an actual WP, for example, the 2017 Valentine's Day "Creeps" (which they labeled, I believe, "Network Spews," though for the life of me, I don't know why, unless I missed something - again!)
All in all, the "Trumpocracy," etc. sets are exactly what they are - and will continue to be. I guess it is up to us individually to make the decision as to whether we want to add them to our collections. And although I do admire some titles, I would personally like to see what David Gross suggested - just a few actual WP titles a week. Not to disparage the artists or their recent endeavors, however I believe a lot of them originally got into this business to create Wacky Packages, not political and social satires. From what I've read on the forum, I am also under the distinct impression that many feel awkwardly stifled and hog-tied, and I doubt that their creativity would suffer at all if they were once again given free rein. I can't be 100% sure, however I am willing to bet that there are many notebooks out there bursting with ideas like so many packets of seeds just waiting to find fertile soil.

Two things concerning what Baked Bears said above:
1. Creeps which was a regular WP did not sell nearly as well as the political ones. So if you want to see good old fashioned WPs online everyone needs to have these outsell the political ones so Topps gets the point.
2. Time is crucial. Staying up all night through to make these in one day is not healthy and definitely affects the work. I'm never going to turn in something I'm unhappy with so I stay up the entire night through to get many of these done and I'm not going to cut and paste or Photoshop figures. So...yeah, please to more time on each piece. I used to work on a piece 2-4 days. The new Old School I was able to do that again and it will show when they come out.
3. Absolutely I'll take old style product parodies any day, any time over the political stuff.

Added note: The time and care you put into your work is more than evident to everyone here. I'm certain of that. It shows. It cannot help but to show. Moreover, it often shines. I cannot even begin to name the many ANS and OS titles that I and my many, many students over the years hold in very high regard. I mean, we're talking tippy-top of the mountain, that kind of high.
It is also obvious that your creations are your metaphorical "children" - and you treat them as such, giving them whatever is necessary to blossom into their very best. You do and sacrifice whatever it takes - as with many of the WP artists - to achieve that goal. I would also imagine, however, that, after laboring so hard and committing one's self to a vision, it must be frustrating at times to be hamstrung by inane corporate policy or have one's work displayed side-by-side with the substandard work of others intent on taking shortcuts along the road to glory.
Personally, though, I'm glad you've taken the high road.

We need the real Wacky's to out sell the political.
Creeps was bizarrely the lowest selling Wacky in all of February, which is just shocking. And it was easily outsold by the other Valentine wacky that day that had inferior art, but it did have 'Trump' on it.
The Club is only making a difference of 10 card in sales, but every little bit can help.

they have bundles of 5 sets for $55, or just $11 a set, vs the $24.99 single price.
if there's enough interest in single set orders, I would buy some bundles and send them out like before (with $3.50 postage, they'd be $14.50 / set)
but also good FYI, if anyone was thinking of buying 2 sets at their full price of $50, I say go ahead and buy yourself the bundle for just $5 more and get 5 full sets instead!

Given all the errors on that ordering page, I'm wondering if they're going to give you the 5 sets at that price. Looked to me like someone screwed up royal [gasp!] and left that drop down by complete mistake (i.e. there never should have been any bulk discount). Will be interesting to see if Topps eats/honors it, if so.

I'm sure we're going to get the 80th anniversary Wacky wrapper some time in the near future, and just wanted to judge interest in a Bulk Buy for that card.
Individual cards from Topps are $8 and postage is free.
A bulk buy of 10 cards will bring the price down to $4.50 a card, and to cover postage, etc., maybe $.75, so $5.25 for a card.
This would be for shipping in a standard envelope in a top holder.
(could probably do 2 cards in one envelope (in separate top loaders) for $9.75.)
is that price difference worthwhile to pursue a bulk buy?
would it matter if the image was the yellow die-cut wrapper and not the red first series wrapper?
would it matter if they botched the image like they botched the GPK wrapper?

As a potential "80th anniversary Wacky Wrapper" card has been mentioned in this thread before, I thought I would discuss it here.

I would have to think they'd include one for sure. I'd love to get the 10 by 14 (or whatever size). There are actually a number of wrappers, both sport and non-sport that I would like to buy. But $8 each (plus shipping, unless that's included) strikes me as pretty high unless it one I really wanted, like Wackys.

I keep checking the 80th Anniversary Wrapper Set every Tuesday, and still no Wacky. "The Brady Bunch" wrapper is up this week, and that's a tough one to get for real, but it's kind of ugly.

Topps definitely saved the best for last - releasing the Wacky Packages red wrapper on the 38th and final week of the 80th year wrapper releases.
I'm planning to do the bulk buy of the Wacky Packages card in a day or so, but since it's been 6 months since I first brought up this idea, I want to double check with everyone.
My current (updated) list is below, for those that wanted this card.
If you've changed your mind, and want to jump off, let me know. Otherwise, I'll assume everyone is still good and buy accordingly.

resurrecting this thread of old, from the gory days of daily wacky cards...
the recent announcement of weekly doses of Wackys had me thinking of bulk buying again, and wondering if it could be done.
Taking the recent GPK releases for examples though, they mostly have no bulk discount at all.
But some have had a 10% discount - the GPK weekly holiday sets, which I think are the direct comparator here.
Examining this best case of a 10% discount, a bulk buying plan is just not worth it for single set buyers. A set is probably going to be $14.99, so even if four weeks of cards were accumulated, the total savings still ($6 in this example) would barely break the cost postage. Better off just buying them direct with free postage.
The bulk buy savings is almost worth the effort though if everyone that was buying was getting multiple sets (2, 3 or more). Of course, everyone would have to wait weeks before getting cards for the maximum benefit, so there is that too.
Just some ruminating on my part.

Looks like the buyers club for the new Wacky Wednesdays aren't worth the effort. We'd be saving just a couple bucks and you can only order 10.

Concur.
Besides being a low $ benefit for the effort, not even 25¢ a card, the killer is the Wonky Package.
Everyone wants one, and if the distribution is, well, wonky, then there might not be enough for each club member to get one. I don’t want to be in that position.
The Bulk Buyer Club remains closed for now.
