I picked up a bunch of jaymar wacky puzzles with the hopes of using some incomplete puzzles to complete other puzzles. So far I have put 3 puzzles together, all with different off-center diecut impressions. None of the pieces match up.
Has anybody ever been able to match a piece from one puzzle to another?
-
I have heard you can never match up pieces across puzzles, they are like snowflakes, no two pieces from any cross puzzles are a like.
-
I have also heard (and personally checked) that specific puzzle pieces from one puzzle do NOT necessarily match up with the image from another puzzle. You probably now have several incomplete puzzles that you will never be able to complete. I hope you didn't mix up the pieces between the various puzzles, as they are still fun to put together, even if you end up with an empty spot or two!
How are the boxes?
-
I kept the puzzles separate from each other. Some of the boxes are in nice shape.

I also attempted this before unsuccessfully. I had a puzzle missing a couple of pieces & another collector I knew also had an incomplete puzzle missing different pieces. We managed an exchange, and from memory since this was 8 or 9 years ago, the pieces worked but the registration was off, i.e. the stamping "registration" of the puzzles varied from puzzle to puzzle, so you could get pieces to fit, but the picture didn't work. Disappointing because it took a lot of effort to test the theory.
The only reason we were able to set up a test via email communication was because I was missing edge pieces which could be identified easier than pieces floating in the middle of the puzzle. To accomplish matching middle pieces, we would have had to have the puzzles side by side.

Thanks for the info Bill. I should have researched on the forum before venturing into this.

I don't think there's any relationship between Jaymar and White Mountain. I know we had a discussion here when someone first noticed the White Mountain puzzle, and as I recall they were using images they took from other websites without even asking permission. I believe their food/candy images were all taken from Jason's site. Not nice.

Yeah, and I believe the wacky images were from Greg's.

Is there actually any law at all that says images from websites can't be used by others? Did Topps endorse these white mountain puzzles? Topps own the images, not greg. 100% of the wacky packages images on greg's site are not images he owns. Topps owns the images and their copyrights are still valid from what I understand, am I mistaken?

my understanding is that the images of the cards themselves are owned by Greg, but that the images that are on the cards are Topps.

How can greg own an image of something that contains an image he doesn't own? For example, greg decides to make t-shirts of the picture he took of a band-ache card. Now greg is suddenly allowed to reproduce the band-ache image that Topps owns just because it is in card form in greg's image? Doesn't sound right to me as would be a loophole for anyone in the world who wants to reproduce images they don't own that happen to appear in some form of medium like a trading card.

Has anyone ever put together the White Mountain puzzle? It has 1,000 pieces, which means they are probably too small for my 55 year-old cheater wearing eyes......I also agree it is not cool if they swiped images. Sales of said images would be a copyright infringement....
-
I have, probably around when it first came out a few years ago.
-
I have - it was a rather easy puzzle for me because I know alot of the OS sticker designs by heart so was able to sort without having to inspect the cover art much, just for the positioning of the individual cards.

I have (ordered it before I realized they swiped the images). I don't recall having a hard time seeing the pieces. But, the Jaymar puzzle is so much more fun. I suddenly feel the need to do that one again :P
