Title: Topps Madcaps - do Wacky Caps slammers exist?
Post by: CaseyRob on June 05, 2016, 05:52:33 PM
I've been through a few thousand packs of Madcaps at this point, and I have yet to locate any Wacky Caps slammers (with a cardboard instead of a printed back).  Has anyone ever come across any of these?  I'm still trying to determine what a "master" set of these would be, and I have truly hit a wall.

If any of these exist, though, I would love to buy them!

I do not believe a Wacky slammer exists. I have had a couple sets of the pogs, wrappers and a couple display boxes but never heard of or seen a slammer.

I had some but gave them away at Halloween years ago.  I didn't find these to be very interesting, just another rehash of previously presented images by Topps.

Do you remember if they were the slammers or just the regular pogs?

There were no slammers made with Wacky Packages art.

Why not?

sco(o)t, at this point that seems most likely, but how can you know for sure?

Well, I cannot be absolutely 100% sure unicorns don't exist either but never seen one in person, never seen one in a zoo, never heard a credible source claim to have seen one, never seen documented proof of their existence, etc. So, if you want to mount an expedition to find a unicorn, be my guest. I would be as thrilled as anyone to see the slammer... errr, unicorn.   ;)

I'll ask my question a different way: what are you basing your statement on?

Not sure what you are getting at, but to paraphrase myself... never seen one in person, never seen one in a collection, never heard a credible source claim to have seen one, never seen documented proof of their existence. If you know of one, we would all love to hear and see about it. Otherwise, I think we have to use the scientific method and assume something doesn't exist, until proven otherwise. I have seen homemade wacky pogs and slammers but I believe we are talking about a Topps product release here, correct?

Hey, this is fun, can I get you to repeat yourself unnecessarily too?

So you are saying because you have never seen of one nor heard of one, they don't exist?  Given that Racey opened thousands of packs finding none and based on your experience, the sample size seems to support a reasonable hypothesis that they don't exist but did you call Topps and ask them?

Are you doubly sure? >:D

It seems I have to be extremely specific when asking questions online these days!  Basically, I didn't know if you were making the statement based on (however many) packs you'd opened, seen others open, eBay followed searches over x number of years, etc.; which you've answered now.

actually his very first response answered your question: "never seen one in person, never seen one in a zoo, never heard a credible source claim to have seen one, never seen documented proof of their existence, et"

I guess Casey took his ball and went home as it appears his profile is now a guest profile and not a registered profile anymore.  I wonder what other online forums he is involved in which he is having trouble communicating this thoughts clearly any accurately per his reference to having to be clear with is online questions. Is there a Mapcaps forum somewhere?

This is now a pattern with him. He did the same thing here a year ago when nobody expressed interest in his German Wacky set. Some of us asked some questions, they were in German as I recall. He made a suggestion that maybe another card (or something) be created which would explain the gags. I replied that if you have to explain the gags....well, you know...and that's about when he vanished the first time. I was actually kind of surprised to see him back.

Why A German set???  Is there a market for a German set?  That is a very strange thread.

I remember that.  I was interested in getting a set and probably an uncut sheet.  Even if they were in German, the products were still identifiable.  The artwork was pretty good, but I seemed to remember that he didn't even let the kickstarter run the full 30 days before he cancelled the project.

I get made fun of when I ask for clarification when I'm not sure about something, and then I get put down when I give up on asking. I try a Kickstarter for something that I want to exist, but even with obvious lack of interest from virtually anyone else, I'm criticized for ending it early. I asked for suggestions, but no one had any until after the Kickstarter was ended.

I'll be the first to admit I can be hasty and emotional with my responses, but sometimes I get honestly confused by other people.

You got some very good sound advice after the kickstarter was over. The reason you got the advice so late was covered by the advice itself, you didn't advertise the set much in advance.  I think you had all the right ideas in place in terms of kick starter levels with uncut sheets and artwork.

If I had advertised the Kickstarter farther in advance, would this have led you, personally, to back it? If so, how much farther in advance?
