Guess what?! April Fools Day is also the official launch day of "Pranky Products"! And just maybe, we'll see some new surprises this year since it's the 15th Anniversary...

Happy Anniversary!! Looking forward to your upcoming surprises!

Happy Anniversary. My PP Binder could use an infusion after all these years. ;)

Happy Anniversary!!

Funny thing about this set, 2 days ago I opened a box that I have not opened in years. It had Silly Supermarket and Pranky Products in there, looked at them for about an hour. PP is a really nice set.

I hope so! - The artwork was awesome!!!!

This is your set? I thought Mark and Mark(RIP) owned this set.

Isn't that Silly Supermarket?

Speaking of Anniversaries and April 1st... Whatever happened to "Official Wacky Packages Day"?

Before Silly Supermarket and New Hamm and all the others, there were Pranky Products

The Official Wacky Packages Day petered out. The Unofficial Wacky Packages Day is on June 9.

Then what was the name of the set put out by the guys Ernie mentioned?

Then what was the name of the set put out by the guys Ernie mentioned?
Mark and Mark are the ones behind NewHamm, Their franchise is PACKAGE PARODIES. Series 1; Series 2; Lie-Cuts 1 through 4; Halloween Fun Pack, 2010 Series Phase1, 2, and 3; and 2010 Halloween Fun Pack. Series 1 and 2 also had red and black Crudlow back variation parallel sets. Most of these sets do not have copyright dates shown anywhere so I am not 100% sure when the first series was issued. There are a number of promo cards available.
The one and only PRANKY PRODUCTS set I have shows "Series 1 Test Set" with a 2001 copyright and E.I.E.I.O. (Enterprising Individual Exploring Infinite Options). Neil, where you involved with this set?
There were 3 series of SILLY SUPERMARKET plus a 2011 mini Series but I think its a bit more complicated. There seemed to be either test or alternate versions of the first series or two with some art and puzzle variations. Plus, I think at some point one of the chains like Toys R Us picked up this series. It may be possible they repackaged this first 2 series and resold as a large single set but I am really vague on this now. One of my sets of SILLY SUPERMARKET cards have the following on the stickers "Copyright Rick Rose 2001 -2002" which would seem to place them slightly after PRANKY PRODUCTS. But this particular sets looks like the earliest version or possibly a test version. The rest of them show a "Top Shelf Enterprises" or "TSE" copyright. Forum Member starman101 (Paul) has posted over the years announcing SILLY SUPERMARKET releases, etc. There is an older Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/sillysupermarket/
Anyone else have more of the details they can help fill in?
-
Nice job on the explanation Scot

Yep, I produced the Pranky Products set.

Ha. I did not know that. Time to look at this set again... With a critical eye. :-\

My favorite is Nutsy bars - good gag, the lines on the packaging wrap around so well, and the cross-eyed character is really well done.
Forghettio's also has a good character, matching the actual packaging. I don't know if "politicans" was a deliberate spelling because it comes in a can, but it looks like a misspelling to me, and they drive me nuts.
-
Speaking of non-Wacky parody sets - what happened to Galactic Groceries? Was that cancelled?
-
I think George is still working on it, but I'm not sure how close it is to being finished.
-
Well, I know 2016 marks 25 years since the 1991 Wacky Packages series came out.

It's also marks 30 years since the 1986 series came out!

Neil, how long has it been since you started working on Wackys? What was your first official Wacky gag?

Hey Joe,
Let's see. I started submitting gags in 2003 and the first approved Wacky gag was either Queerasil or Castro Oil but I'm not entirely sure which one was first, since I'd usually send them in groups. Queerasil was definitely painted first, though.
-
I'm shocked none of the p.c. nazi's gave you hell for using the word "queer" regardless of the context.

Neil, thanks for the bit of history. Well regardless of whether it's PC or not, Queerasil is an awesome monster Wacky, a great gag with great art!
-
Jimmys not a hater, but Jimmy hates PC...call it like it is! Truth hurt? suck it up babycakes, your momma should have told you Life's not fair sted of shielding from reality.
Now, lets get back to what this thread is all about, Elmer's Gwoo.

Ha! I never caught that! The funny thing is, I loved spelling bees back in my elementary days! But then I discovered art...

Forghettio's is also one of my faves as well as Tom & Jerry's; Bugels; Croacker Jack; and Nutri-Groan Bars.
Its fun looking at these now knowing that Neil did the artwork to compare to his newer stuff.

The biggest difference is that a lot of the art for Pranky Products was done digitally. If I had to do all over again, I probably would have done the set as conventional paintings. Gives everything a warmer feel...

So will you do the set all over again in a painted fashion? I am sure there would be a lot of interest.

maybe ;)

Maybe there will be color sketches to be had this time around? That's another way to "update" the set. ;)

Happy Anniversary! I recall buying this set during the "dark ages" of Wackys back in 2001. Not that I remember the exact day, but I was living in Dallas at the time and thought the set was very well done. It was cool to know that Neil got called up to the big leagues and worked on Wackys. And even cooler that he is such a great ambassador for the hobby!
-
Thanks Tom! You're the cat's meow!
-
Whoa. This was a cool set. Waiting to see what is next............. :great:
-
The "finish" on the artwork was INCREDIBLE! Satin??
-
Any updates we can get on the 15th anniversary "surprises" this year?
-
Soon, I hope!!!
-
SOOOO ready - The Satin Finish is AWESOME on the originals!

Will there be promos to offer beside the set itself?
-
Neil, too cool! Another reason this year will be Wack-tacular!

How about some purchase info. :^) :-\

Aside from the one test release back in 2001, there's also been a few promo cards over the years. But no second series...yet.

That is a discouragingly low number, especially for someone on the opposite side of the country.

I wanna be first on the list for leftovers.

Please add me to the list of optimistic possible leftover recipients.

Same here.

I'll check back in after this weekend's show and post here about any leftovers.

With a limited 50, and coming from Neil I believe these will go fast. Sad part is they will end up on e-bay for $20-$50 a pop. I would SO rather give that money to Neil vs nobody.
Again with only 50 made they will not reach a large enough audience to really boost sales. Hell I'm sure 50 sets will be sold on the forum alone. I know I want at least 2 sets.

Wait! I thought there were only 50 promo cards total. 50 total sets will be made? I'm confused!
Either way, please add me to the list for purchasing an extra promo...if possible.

He never said 50 sets, just 50 promos. But if each promo generates sales for 1 set. well, lets put it this way, nothing is 100%

Neil, THANK YOU for being the Gwoo that binds us together. If not for you and your releases we would have nothing to lust after. Its so sad Topps couldn't keep their proverbial shit together and keep Wackys going at a pace we can all keep up with. Looking forward to what ever crumbs you can provide as you are only one man on a mission we all hope you succeed in!! Again, thanks.
Jim

So Pranky Products return before 2016 is over without a Kickstarter support.
-
Under the photos section of the Super Toy Con on Facebook there are some nice photo bios with Neil and other artists showing some of their work.

Got some extras from the show. I'll post more about it in the coming days....

8) that's awesome

Neil, if there was only one test series of Pranky Products and a few promo cards,I can see why Jeff Allender hasn't put it on his House of Checklists website.(He's got all the ones for Package Parodies and Silly Supermarket Stickers, though.) By the way,can anyone help me find a way to e-mail him on the site? I've tried clicking where it says"E-mail me" and nothing happens. I'm asking this because I've got a few suggestions for checklists to put on it-especially a few Wacky Packs ones that he missed.

Yep, Pranky Products were originally released in 2001 to keep myself amused since it had been so long since Topps had released a Wacky Packages set. I was originally going to print a few sheets to hang up in my office, but the printer convinced me to release it as a set, and so I created a small number for fans. But I mostly only make the cards and promos for fun when time permits, so it's no big surprise they don't appear on some of the collector sites.
-
My PP Collection has it's Own professionally labeled binder and each card is in a penny sleeve and in a 9-panel PVC sheet
Great Art must be preserved!
-
D'oh! I just checked the forum today for the first time in a couple weeks. If I'm not too late, I'd love to get one, Neil. But I'm guessing they are long since spoken for.
As always, thanks for keeping the wacky love alive!
