And what is the origin of such a day?well, it all started about 13.8 billion years ago....
And what is the origin of such a day?We all need a day. I bet you missed out on donut day last weekend! Fool :]
And what is the origin of such a day?
And what is the origin of such a day?
I don't remember who started this - anyone here remember?
Besides, we're Wacky fans - a random celebration day makes perfect sense!
Post something in this thread today about a Wacky that always makes you smile! Anyone who does will be entered in a random drawing for a vintage Band-Ache trinket or a 1967 die-cut. As I look around today, I might add a Wacky Ad or something else. :)
I only use PEPTO-DISMAL when referring to that for years...its part of my vernacular now!! ;D ;D ;D
And now for something completely different...a TRIVIA CONTEST:
If you were to line up one of every original series wacky (1 thru 16) end to end - on their long side, how many feet would it equal?
The first person to guess the total length correctly gets a free box of OS5 stickers!
Good luck Wacky brainiacs!
Well I have a number of Wacky Packages paintings on my walls and some leave me in awe but there's only one that always makes me smile. It is Tom Bunk's 'Killson' from the Wacky Poster series. Tom's work strikes me as a wonderful Wacky/Mad hybrid and I feel we're so fortunate to have him among the Wacky artists.

Ummm 143.2 feet not counting variations of a title (like Scoot with or without copyright) or back and trademark variations.
OK, that's really close. Seems like we need to clarify the total number of wackys from series 1-16. According to my count, there's 488 unique titles (not including variations). So let's use that as our yardstick.
Hmmmm, I thought 491. I wonder what series I am remembering incorrectly.

OK, Pat pointed out a title I had left off. Here's the final, final count:
Series 1 - 30
Series 2 - 33
Series 3 - 30 (excludes Spic & Span variation)
Series 4 - 32 (includes Bum/Choke/Mess/Windhex)
Series 5 - 32 (excludes Cram diecut variation)
Series 6 - 33
Series 7 - 33 (excludes Grime variation)
Series 8 - 30
Series 9 - 29
Series 10 - 30 (includes Pupsi)
Series 11 - 30
Series 12 - 27
Series 13 - 30
Series 14 - 30
Series 15 - 30
Series 16 - 30 (excludes Scoot variation)
So, that's 489 titles!
I got 142.625 feet - if Top to bottom - :o :o :o :o
if side by side then = 101.875 feet *** :o :o :o :o :o
Either way you stack it, looks like you're the winner! Congrats on your exceptional wacky calculations!

Wait a minute!!! Have you actually measured the side of a sticker? Isn't it 3.75 inches? Alex
Here's a fun fact. 25,344 Wackys in a mile (side to side).
And if you did this calculation for all post Original Series titles, including every variation, the distance would be from Earth to the Moon and back 3.4 times
Show me the math :P
As a kid, I hated it when my teacher would tell me that!
Show me the math :P
hmmm. I don't see a "pi" in there anywhere, so something is fishy. There's always gotta be a pi.
18x32 to the 3rd power minus (1 series 3 pack with only 1 sticker) divided by the amount of swelling the card next to the gum(.00032) suffers = the amount you have to times by the distance to the moon at that very second. compounded 3 fold plus the tangent of the perpendicular oblong (oc) clammy sticker. = 3.4 give or take

Here's another trivia contest, this time with the prize being a 5x7 wall art set I put aside just for today.good one.
What Topps Wackys include references to Wacky artists or collectors? PM me the title, series, and reference - first person to get it right wins a wall art set.
Three cheers for Wacky Package Day!! :wav:
I remember the little neighborhood store where I bought wackys as a kid. I was trying to finish my 4th series set and I kept getting Grass Wax. Grass Wax, after Grass Wax, after Grass Wax. That sticker drove me crazy! Funny thing is, now I have a real soft spot for Grass Wax. Even though I never did finish that set...
Excellent story! I remember I kept getting Dums in series 7, and I still like that one.

My collection started with the first series, but my Mom was buying packs and doling them out to me and my brothers for series one and two. I think the first time I purchased Wackys on my own was the third series, so I have a soft spot for that series, especially Beanball since I was collecting baseball cards at the same time. I remember going to my friend's house in another town and being allowed to bring a quarter for our run to the party store to buy Wackys. So fevered was my obsession that I dared to bring two quarters! However, to be safe in case of a surprise inspection, I took some Silly Putty and stuck the two quarters together to avoid detection. Worked like a charm - only because my Mom never checked.

I can't say for sure, but before the date became fixed, there were June 8 celebrations as far back as 2001.
Since we're doing extreme calculations--June 8, 2001 was exactly 10,000 days from the probable date of my first Wacky purchase.
Shouldn't Kook-Aid be on the most iconic list? It is for me. Who didn't drink Kool-Aid as a kid?

June 9 was the day I started the Officially Unofficial National Wacky Packages Day. I may have held a few of them on June 8 because it fell on a weekend, but typically, June 9 is the day. And of course, there was the April 1st Wacky Day a couple of years ago, and I postponed the June 9 celebration that year. But now it's back and June 9th-ier than ever!
The first wackys I ever remember seeing is a friend showed me Poopsi and All Brain. With the tag line "Free Antidote Inside!" I was immediately hooked. I started collecting immediately. The last two cards I traded for to complete my 2nd series set were Commie and, of course, Run Tony. Both had white backs as opposed to my tan back collection.
Ahhh, the days....
Who didn't drink Kool-Aid as a kid?
Me, for one. My Mother did not allow it.
Also did not have Captain Crunch, Fruit Loops, Oreos, or Pop Tarts as a kid, for the same reason
I did enjoy Carnation Instant Breakfast though! LOL, as if that was healthier than the other stuff....
Who could forget All Brain - that's an instant classic!
And speaking of brains, you got the dorkin donuts trivia question correct! The answer is: Six (not including the coffee related parodies):
ans2: Krusty Krumbs, ans6: Dukin' Donuts, ans7: Kreepy Kreme, ans7 Foil: Shrunken Donuts,
ans8: Punkin' Donuts, ans10: Dungeon Donuts.
Congratulations! You get the Dorkin Donuts concept art.
Fantastic!!! Thanks so much Neil! It will be a favorite in my ANS collection!
David
Hope everyone had a grrrrreat 10th Annual Officially Unofficial National Wacky Packages Day!
Thanks for putting this together! I could see the trivia contests as a weekly or monthly event.
Oh no! I had enough trouble coming up with my trivia question, and even then, Neil had to correct me on ones I missed.
Glad to make your day a bit wackier! By the way, it's awesome that you're adding it to you ANS collection, but I should point out, Dorkin Donuts isn't part of the ANS series, I made it specially for "Officially Unofficial National Wacky Packages Day". Enjoy!
Neil,
The OUNWPD Card came today. Very sweet card. Thanks for your passion for the hobby!
Andrew
Thank you Neil for your generosity to the forum! It is the artists that seem to care for the brand way more than the owners of it.
I somehow missed Neil's post about his kind offer, so I'll repost it here and enjoy it in a virtual vicarious type manner :DThanks for reposting. I missed out too.
So many awesome dorky donuts it's hard to pick a favorite. The frankendonut and pirate are up there, as is the one hanging by it's teeth from the box lid, but I think the pink one front and center wins my vote.
Thanks again to Neil for the great special card! :great: :great: :great: :great:
Thanks everyone! It's really interesting to hear everyone's opinions on the individual dorky donuts. Seems like everyone prefers a different character. But why? If I ever pursue a 2nd degree in psychology, I'll make this the premise for my thesis. ;)
Diversity... Vive La Difference!!
My favorite is the one in the middle, getting bit by the hungry donut behind him.
Donuts are sometimes cruller
Ugh. That frittered away a couple thousand brain cells.
Doh!every time folks go into 'pun mode', my eyes glaze over
That's for sure! My favorite is the one in the middle, getting bit by the hungry donut behind him.yeah, that one is disturbing to look at. it's worse than seeing the dork next to him with half his head bit out.

That's not his head, it's his buns.I always knew you were half-baked, Neil. :P
