There hasn't been any discussion of the underground Lost Wacky series that came out from 05-07. It's an interesting story whose details are lost on the old forum but worth repeating.
In the late 90s, Duane Dimock produced some home-made lost Wackys:
Midget Rice, Monsterettes, Fool-Aid, Buggies, Fool-Aid (1961 Mad Ad), Gooya
The first two came in one 'set', the second in another, with the 1961 Fool-Aid as a bonus. I think he made Gooya shortly after ANS1 came out but I can't remember.
In 2005, Rusty Erpenbeck collected a bunch of lost images and self-produced a set on his home printer and stock paper. It was OK but nothing like a real die-cut Wacky. I have two series:
Series 1 (Unique images from the Ads, Die-Cuts and Posters):
Alcohol Seltzer, Boredom's, Campy, Cracked Animals, Cracked Jerk, Coronation, De-Mented, Fearstone, Garbage Baby Food, Good And Empty, Guerrilla Milk, Jolly Mean Giant, Melty Way,
Metrekill, Moron Salt, Muller, Ratz, Schmutz, Sludgsickle, Slum Maid, Toadal, Wacky Garbage
Series 2 (Lost Wackys):
Cranked, Doglix, Growgerm, Harassame Street, Mixwell Hearse, Reejeek, A'cent, Aquax, Coma, Dr. Peeper, Foney, Forger's, Hawaiian Punks (Can version), Libber's, Pigs Blue Ribbon, Pro-Grossout,
Tropicanine, White Duck, Ajerx (alternate version), Creeps, Usneeze, Bacteria, Slacker Jack, Jujubats, 5th Series rerun checklist, Sneer puzzle
He also produced a card for the 1999 reunion Wacky, Upchuck's Barf Stew.
I didn't get involved with Greg's forum until 2004, and there clearly had been lots of discussion about this stuff. Does anyone have background info on Rusty and Duane? How'd they acquire the images in the first place?
I'll detail Greg's two Lost Series next.

Thanks for posting this info. I have most of the Lost Wackies and would love to learn about how they came about.

Here's a bit more about Duane's role: http://www.duanedimock.com/lostwackys.htm
THE LOST WACKYS STORY (by Duane Dimock)
The Lost Wackys series stickers were made from original paintings which Topps Gum Company auctioned off in New York in 1989. These finished paintings had never been made into stickers nor released, so by buying the originals I became the owner of the images. In 1993, I named the first series set as Lost Wackys (Monsterettes and Midget Rice) that were made into 1500 numbered sets (uncut sheets and single stickers). 1998 brought out the 2nd set of Lost Wackys (Fool-Aid and Buggies) which were also made into 1500 numbered sets (uncut sheets and single stickers). The 2nd series had an extra 50 sets of hand numbered single stickers with the famous LUDLOW backs. After many years, other unpublished Wacky Package titles became known to exist and have also been labeled as Lost Wackys (I do not own any of these). Also, after other information came to light, Midget Rice came from the possible 12th series, not 1st series.

so by buying the originals I became the owner of the images.
a misunderstanding on his part
owner of the paintings, but definitely not owner of the images

Where is Dianne these days? Is he on the Forum?

It's Duane, not Dianne.

Right. For instance, all the people who have purchased original Wacky paintings do not then have the right to print and sell the image. Same with the unpublished Wackys. Copyright (the right to copy) is not transferred when the painting is sold. The painting is owned, not the copyright.

Only tangentially related, but does anyone know how some of the Tee Shirt/poster/etc. places, such as TeeFury, Woot, RedBubble and others, are able to sell shirts with characters, phrases, and the like from television shows, movies, comics and other copyrighted materials? All our family members are big DR. WHO fans and we enjoy the plethora of Dr. Who related T-shirts currently available, but I always feel a little like I am purchasing black market materials when no copyrights are shown. Are the artists relying on the copyright owners to look the other way? Is there some blanket licensing fee these companies pay, like radio stations do to be able to play music (probably not a good analogy)? I know Disney, for example, is very aggressive in pursuing non licensed use of their images, logos, characters, etc. and I don't see any Disney related items from these places. Perhaps they charge ahead until receiving a cease and desist order.

In late 2006, Greg Grant teamed up with other forum members and created a limited, professionally diecut series of stickers, limited to 120 sets. These were mostly lost Norm Saunders work, with a handful of 1991 leftovers:
Lost Series 1:
Antenmann's / Buggies / ClodFather / Fanatik / Fool-Aid / Garbage Pail Kids / Gooya / Gristlers / Hawaiian Punks (Juice Box) / Irvings Soaps / Janitor In A Slum / Kill
The Little Barmaid / Midget Rice / Mixwell Hearse / Monsterettes / Mr. Potato Famine / Usneeze / Nastee Crush / Tushie / Pig Lips Tea / Pig Pen / Bacteria
Porkie / Richie Retch / Rotting Zone / Sea Honkies / Taster's Choke (new version) / Unlucky Dog / Winsome / Orgeo - bonus / Ovary Show - bonus / Lost Gum (pink) - bonus / Lost Gum (yellow) - bonus
Janitor In A Slum puzzle
There was an intentional error in the first printing as Duane had changed the art on Garbage Pail Kids so that the doll was giving you the finger. As an incentive to get people to send in the wrong version, Greg offered up a corrected sticker along with:
Growgerm / Jujubats / Red Veins / Runny Face
Mixwell Hearse puzzle
There was lots of shenanigans and issues behind the scenes, which I wasn't fully privy to.
-
A lot more than the GPK was altered. Gooya, fool aid and others.
All extremely irritating
-
Oh, right, I thought there was more than that. Was that all Duane's little joke?
-
David Byron wrote this on the other forum:
This was my [Mixwell Hearse] Lost Ad. I consigned it to the eBay seller, a fine fella, and it sure didn't hang around long! I purchased this a few years ago from Duane. He was selling quite a few "Lost" titles on eBay and I think Topps made him stop. Greg would know better than I. At one time, I had a copy of every title Duane produced, but eventually sold them all. What's funny is I put this one away and forgot about it for about 5 years. I had a heck of a time finding it. It was in great condition!

Once I received the original Lost Wacky set from Greg, I began pouring over them. I was excited to finally get those images in card form. I had seen the images on the web and had been pining for them. Then I noticed some of the designs were altered. Among them, Rotting Zone and Fanatick were all stretched out. I contacted Greg. Somehow, no one had caught it before production. Greg was pissed. He went back to look at the rest of the cards and found a lot of alterations. I can't remember if it was all Duane or if Rusty had something to do with it. And let's not get into the fiasco of the replacements!
-
I don't recall having any issues getting replacements. I wish the older forum that covered 2004-2010 was still intact. I can't even figure out how to log into it any more.
Anyway, it's interesting to note that many of these titles have been given a legitimate release over the years:
FB 1: Buggies / Fool-Aid / Janitor In A Slum / Midget Rice / Monsterettes / Nastee Crush / Taster's Choke (new version)
FB 2: Gooya / Unlucky Dog
ANS10: Growgerm
ANS11: Gristlers
2014 S1: Pig Pen / Richie Retch
-
Additional info: the 'alternate' version of Tasters Choke is unused Poster art by Saunders. Likely it was C&D'd before the very first printing of the posters. As well, there was a poster sized Lost Wacky of this title produced, which included its planned poster number.
they show up on eBay from time to time.
-
Now are the many never released Star Wars Wacky Packages entries we saw preview spoiler images from considered the next LOST WACKYS?
-
About a year after the first Lost Wacky set, Greg printed up another die-cut sticker set, again limited to 120-150 sets. These appear more often on eBay than the first set, I guess some speculators grabbed a bunch.
Lost Series 2:
Dr. Peeper / Forger's Coffee / Libber's / A'Cent / Pigs Blue Ribbon / Pro-Grossout / Brain'nola / Chia Punk / FrozFoot / My Spittle Pony / Snafu / Fartles & Lames / Jo-Jo / Conun the Librarian
Exximo Pie / Beaver / Fungicolor / Slippery Murry-O Bros / Boosh Ball / CarpiSun / Twisted / Soldier of Misfortune / Scar / TV Died / Spleen Beat / Bob Magazine / Lush Pop / Sweat Valley High
Barfie Doll / Farting Lineup / Sad Magazine / Boy's Lice / Shebad / Forgers puzzle / Gum (pink) - bonus / Gum (yellow) - bonus
The first 6 are from the Can Labels and the rest are from the aborted 1992 set. I'm pretty sure Rusty was the source for these images.
-
Other Lost Wackys yet to see the light of day by Topps in sticker form or Chrome card form: Sickey Mouse Viewer, Swansong Snot Pie, Snot Cakes, Snot Pockets, Picky Stix, Spaghetto's, and Sparkler Towels.
-
Speaking of lost wacky's, does anyone have a CLODFATHER sticker?
-
I got these well after they were first released. I also was able to buy a binder. It cost me a lot and I am wondering how limited the binders were? It was very well done.

I agree, it's a quality binder, but I do wish Ovary Show wasn't on it, as that prevents me from showing it to people. Sorry, no idea how many were produced.
-
You could always place a strategic Wacky over Overy Show!

I agree, it's a quality binder, but I do wish Ovary Show wasn't on it, as that prevents me from showing it to people. Sorry, no idea how many were produced.
Ovary show came from the "X-Packs" set of 8 cards that somebody produced shortly after Greg's larger sets came out. It also included a version of Screech where the woman was topless, but the rest of the set was repeats of other titles already in circulation through other Lost Wacky sets. I believe both Screech and Ovary Show were privately commissioned by a collector - pretty sure Jay Jynch did the artwork for both. Screech I thought was pretty funny, but the Ovary Show card is just kind of gross. However, it was a very clever idea, as the model on the original Ivory Snow box was Marilyn Chambers (who went on to have a big career in porn films).
As for the binder, I had one of those when it first came out. Chip Molen (sp?) made those in fairly limited quantities and offered them up to members of Greg's forum in conjunction with the sticker sets. At the time, he owned a printing company and he actually produced many of the Lost Wacky sets that Greg was more or less in charge of. I ended up selling my binder because he put Ovary Show in a prominent place on the cover and it kind of ruined the thing for me (not that I object to the artwork; it just seemed overly offensive considering that I still think of Wackys as being a kid-friendly franchise).
As for the artwork variations, there were lots of issues as has been mentioned in this post. Some of it had to do with titles that were meant for posters and never used (a sorta-lost wacky, as something like Taster's Choke was released as a sticker, but not as a poster). Others were just screwed up, and I remember Greg offering to replace some of the titles in the set with corrected stickers. He insisted on people sending back the originals, as the whole idea of these modified titles really offended him and he wanted them all destroyed. I can't remember how that aspect of it played out, but there was a lot of drama around it at the time.
Since then, many of those "lost" titles have shown up as bonus stickers in recent Topps sets, so it's hard to say how many of the original "Lost" titles that were released by collectors are still technically "Lost." But those two big sets that Greg put out are still really cool and worth getting if you don't already have them.
-
where can you get these sets. I never was able to get them.

I believe I read Norm Saunders did the Ovary Show painting. I got the X packs set when they came out and Ovary Show was not in it.
-
I don't remember seeing the Ovary on the lost binder. I wonder if there are two binders?
It's on the back cover of my binder, right at the top edge, smack dab in the middle.
-
I painted the topless Screech. But Ovary Show was something Saunders painted for inter-office humor back in the '70s. I never painted Ovary Show. The lost Wacky card that was issued had Norm's original painting on it.

Thanks for the clarification on Ovary Show. I didn't realize it was a Saunders' original. Someone must have bought the painting at some point to be able to create the sticker - I wonder who has it?

That's right - it was on the back. But it was, literally, dead center with nothing overlapping it, so it was kind of hard not to notice the naked girl on the binder...

Where can I view a Master List of Non - Topps Produced Lost Wackies and their respective variations? I have a bunch of Series One :pst Wackies that I have two versions of. I want to see if I have a complete set or if I am missing some cards.
-
I haven't found one - the list of Series 1 & 2 titles are in this thread, and people have mentioned some of the replaced titles but I haven't seen a definitive list. Anyone have one?
-
Rusty has a very extensive listing of Lost Wackys on his site, including numerous roughs in addition to finished art

Nice site but it doesn't give the variations for each sticker. Has Greg ever put anything out since he seems to be behind most of the Lost Wacky releases prior to Topps getting involved?

Here is a list of my Lost Wacky Series One Cards that I have Variations of:
Antenmans
Buggies
Fanatik
Fool Aid
Garbage Pail Kids
Gooya
Hawaiinan Punks
Mixwell Hearse
Mr Potato Famine
Nastee Crush
Tushie Roll
Pig Pens
Lost Gum

Not sure what you mean by variations in set one? Hopefully not those eff'd up crap cards that were a spit in the face to all collectors.

Yes, I believe that is what I am referring to. The Abomination/ Variation Lost Wacky set.

I've been looking through what I have, but I'm not sure I have everything, so I hesitate to write up a complete list. Willing to take a shot at it as a Master list if people will chime in with what they know from the original issuance.
I do have 3 alternate puzzles: for Lost Wacky set 1, Mixwell Hearse instead of Janitor in a Slum, and for Lost Wacky set 2, Libber's and Dr. Peeper instead of Forger's. Also a Gooya sticker with "Gooya" printed in a pattern on the reverse, and five different color printing versions of Janitor in a Slum with a pattern on the back. For empty wrappers, I have yellow, green, red, blue and purple - I don't know which colors go with which series.
As for "corrected" versions, in my stickers I see two different white back Gooya versions, "facial hair" and "who work for us." Pig pens I have with and without "The Ink with Oink." GPK I have with "Yo Ma" and "Ma Ma." We'll need an abomination column so people know which is which!
-
I believe Dr Deal has a full list of the bad stickers above. Some were just poor repros, like Nastee and Tushee, but the rest were butchered versions of the real deal. Most alterations were fairly obvious.
personally, I think there should be no acknowledgement of the abominations on any list ever.
mine were gleefully destroyed.

Does anyone have more info on the homemade "shot wheels" series? I would/could classify these with the lost & collector made items like the homemade posters.

Yes... I know a bit about them: They were made by an artist by the name of John Suares (sp) of San Diego, CA. He is a close friend of Duane Dimmock's and basically lived just down the street from him. Scott Broberg and I met him in person back in 1997 at Duane's house while visiting / touring Duane's vast collection, and at the time there were only 6 different cars available and they were only $15 each. Due to the explosion of the internet around that time and Ebay, John had several orders requested by hot wheel collectors and Wacky enthusiasts and could barely even keep up productions since each one was hand made and painted. Somewhere after 2000, he made a second run set, of which I only have one of, so not sure how many were produced in that series. Truly unique pieces, and one of the most awesome collector / fan-made items out there. Nowadays, when they show up on Ebay they usually get around $100+/- apiece.

Anyone have a list of everything that was replaced/upgraded in the first Lost series? I'm going to add this information to the Master Spreadsheet for future reference.

I think a number of people here view the "abominations" Dr. Deal listed above kind of the way you view the X-Packs.
I've got a start on a list of items I have, including some boxes and uncut puzzles, and two different sized binders. But, I don't know for sure which stickers came from which color wrappers (I have 5 different colors, and one or two that are fully printed instead of having a label stuck on a plain white wax wrapper.) I think the Series 1 originals were in the yellow and purple wrappers, with the replacements in the green wrapper, and the Series 2 stickers were in the red and blue wrappers.

What do you mean by "unfixed"?
My best recollection on this is that these titles were also altered, but for some reason, were not reproduced "corrected". I have no details documented, in my brain nor on paper/digitally.
I also agree with your evaluation of the wrappers:
Series 1 - yellow and purple
Replaced/bonuses - green
Series 2 - blue and red

Dang, I totally forgot about the John Suarez hand-made Shotwheels cars. I bought one of the original 3 or 4 he made. But I haven't seen it in years. I sure hope I kept it! Such a cool item.
Thanks for the info Brian
