Title: Chrome Variations
Post by: Wgblood on July 26, 2014, 11:00:30 AM
I just bought a couple of value packs from my local Target in St Paul. Was disappointed with the first pack because of a printing error that clipped the corners. The next pack was a little better. I assume this is an alternate art card

I found a variation. This one was easy. I skimmed over all my cards and this is the only one I could find. Leave it to Neil to pick Koduck.

It's just like all the others. No difference.

Does it have any indication written on the back that it's a variation?  Or is it flying under the radar?

Totally under the radar. When I sorted them by number I would flip them over and see if I could find any variation. At first I was looking really close at the artwork. Then I decided just to flip through them somewhat faster and this one stuck way out.

I don't know if any words have been altered but I thought it was just the characters. It makes sense since these are pretty easy to alter than repainting an altered card.

I wonder if these are the only 2? I checked and I didn't pull the other variation.

well, the wrappers say there are 2 kinds of variations:  character and artwork.

I would guess that this is the character.

Eager to see what an 'artwork' change means

Only 200 hobby cases!
Title: Re: Chrome Variations
Post by: DrDeal on July 27, 2014, 07:18:21 AM
Only 200 hobby cases!

This would make sense due to 2750 Golds (25 each x 110 Base cards). 200 Hobby cases X 12 = 2400 Hobby Boxes.

That would work out. So about 350 Hobby Boxes have 2 Golds in them. I did get two Golds in one of my seven Hobby Boxes.

The low Pre-orders on this release caused collectors who purchased it to get a better deal in terms of Gold and Blue Hobby Only cards.

That's what I thought would occur.

It will be interesting to see if case prices go up. They have come down for hobby cases in the last few releases. I also think they made the right amount. I liked buying what I did but have no impulse to buy more.  One master set of base cards and parallel set mixed with Golds, Blues,  Atomics, X Fractors and basic refractors, plus one sketch will do it for me.

That might be about right because if you get one gold per box and only 25 were printed of each title...well you can do the math.

That might be about right because if you get one gold per box and only 25 were printed of each title...well you can do the math.
but based on how much everything is selling for on ebay I really think the remaining cases will go down in price.  example 1 week ago golds were selling in the 40-50 range now I am seeing them in the 20 - 30 range.  same with blues.  Sketches are not bringing a premium.  The back bone of a case is the blue and the gold and you do not get enough to justify a case for 700.00.  I know I am not buying another case at that price, however if the case price drops to 500 range (45 per box) i will pick up another case.

there are ~100 of each if there are 4 total variations. Two of each type (two art, two mix up), according to the odds.

I am not liking the look of the Superfractors. They have this tiny machine roll / sawblade design that is not pleasant to view.

The altered cards are fun and a surprise. They were a very cool addition to this release.

Do we know how many chrome boxes and paks in total? The odds for the alternative cards are showing up on paks in the
blaster boxes and the value packs, and I'm assuming on the TRU paks as well? A

Love these alternate cards!  I wouldn't have cared much if there was some tiny detail changed, but I really like the far-out way these have been changed.  Sadly, I suspect I won't end up with one, but they are fun to see.

And I know it's posted somewhere, but for refractor variations, we have

2.  blue

4.  These checkboard designs, from Target
5.  super-duper atomic

Thanks for the info!  I didn't recognize the character.  Very cool that Norm's artwork has made a return to Wackys on this card.

By the way, I listed it on ebay, starting at a penny to make it interesting, and when I search the auction doesn't come up.  Can anyone else see it?

I love checking in to the Chrome Variation Thread early in the morning to see what new title has popped up. This is the highlight of this release for me. Similar to sketches in terms of "What will the minds of the Wacky Artists come up with next?" I wonder if the "Wonky Packages" we got a year ago were the genesis for these?

Mine's only at $21.50 on ebay.  Most people could afford that ;)

Actually, I'm kinda fascinated by what these will fetch.  I'm selling mine as I want the money to pay for all the chrome I bought as well as upcoming releases.  Even if I didn't have one on ebay, I'd be very curious what they'd get.  With a horse in the race, I'm even more interested.  Would like to know more about how many of each image, but perhaps the unknown is part of the appeal.

I think we can come up with the number of total cards made by dividing 1500 into the total number of packs. We know there are about 33600 Hobby packs. (200 cases X 12 Boxes per case X 14 Packs per Box). So that's 22 cards in the Hobby Release. If we speculate that the retail releases are about double the Hobby release size then we get another 45 Cards so a Total of 67 Cards made. So far we have 5 Titles and there are probably 10 or so.  So that means around 7 made per card.  Just a guess.

You would have to stop the auction to retitle. You still have 5 days left so I wouldn't worry too much.

I see.  I really wasn't sure what key words/terms to use, but I appreciate the feedback.  I really am curious what it will go for.  Obviously, I have a horse in the race, but I'd be very curious even if I didn't.  I'm also curious how many more of these will pop up (either of Campy's specifically or any title).

from the odds on the pack, there are 250 cards of art change and 250 cards of character change

so far we've seen about 3 of each type, but likely there's a couple more out there, meaning about 50 of each variety.
If more show up, just keep dividing 250 down.

I just knew these Altered Art variations had to have an Ugly Sticker in there somewhere. Fantastic!

i received a Koduck  Character Swap card with Quacker Oats character on it yesterday I had purchased it outside of Ebay.  This will be the only one of this type of card I own for this release. I was fortunate to be able to obtain one. I think these are much cooler than the Superfractor Cards.

I'd prefer one of these as well.  I left an empty spot in the pages for one, but I expect it to remain that way.

Can those who have been fortunate enough to pull one of these variation cards comment on where it was in their pack? It is my sense that the rare cards are usually last in the pack. Does this hold true for these cards?

To be honest, I don't remember where mine was.  I was in such a state of shock I didn't make a mental note.

I think this is the second of this specific card to be pulled.  Do we know for sure how many of each type were made?

my guess from the odds is about 50

there should be 250 altered art and 250 mixed up character cards
so far, 4 types of each have surfaced.
it's possible there's a 5th to make the division perfect

Mine's only at $21.50 on ebay.  Most people could afford that ;)

Actually, I'm kinda fascinated by what these will fetch.  I'm selling mine as I want the money to pay for all the chrome I bought as well as upcoming releases.  Even if I didn't have one on ebay, I'd be very curious what they'd get.  With a horse in the race, I'm even more interested.  Would like to know more about how many of each image, but perhaps the unknown is part of the appeal.

Over $300 so I think you did ok in the end. Nice to see that one sold organically.

That then is about what they are worth then.  I don't think they are 600-1000 dollar cards

I am VERY appreciative that you sold me the Koduck Vari at a great price and hope to return the favor one day.

Yeah, I was happy as well as curious to see how it would turn out.  I do think there is some variation in the desirability of these cards, so it may be tough to peg a price too literally.  I know the buyer of my card liked the fact that it wasn't just another wacky character.  To be honest, I think I might have preferred a mixed-up Wacky character (I guess mine really was a mixed-up art card) but I'm happy I was able to defray the cost of what I put out for this series.

Here you go Patrick. Not a real high quality pic but at least its taken from straight on. Do you have a decent DEMENTED you can share? How many do you have pictures of. I have AJERX, CAMPY, CAP'N CRUD, COMMIE, DEMENTED, KODUCK, KOOK-AID, and QUACKER OATS.
