Title: A Wacky Packages first or Has this already been noted
Post by: Joe G. on March 17, 2014, 03:02:48 PM
So as many on the forum know, I've been putting together a collection of my gags from ANS 11.  I thought I had completed it when the rare "C" back variation of My Little Bony caught my eye.  Well it arrived today and I was shocked to see that this was no mere "C" back but a complete new card with revised art.  I check Joe Leonard's fun 'Base sets A and B (I found a "C")- http://www.wackypackagesforum.com/index.php?topic=3144.0 ' thread and don't believe this has been noted.  Anyway without further ado I give you this:

(http://s2.postimg.org/43678rij9/Bony_Variation.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/43678rij9/)

The original image of Bony's sharing a skull is from my rough but where the new image, of what appears to be a Brony Zombie with an ice cream cone on it's head, is from is anyone's guess.  I checked and the other 2 "C" back cards also have modified art.  On one a Mars Attack Martian replaces a cat and on the other some art is modified on the side of the box.  Anyone have any info on this?

great find!
we've had these cards for how long, and we never noticed? we're all turning into Dimwit Dots!
you're the first one with info. looks like a great way to tell the versions apart without having to look at the backs.

here's the other two

Patrick, thanks for posting the other two.  Now that I see SuReal friends large it looks to me like the image on the side of the box is a Garbage Pail Kid.  Perhaps the variation reference other Topps brands?

I think you're right with GPK and Mars Attacks!
but what is the one on Bony? seems almost familiar, comic book or something. did Topps have anything like that?

Is it a Hollywood Zombie?

Hollywood Zombies is a good guess since at the time ANS 11 was being created Topps was promoting that brand with AOD and posters on Shop Topps.

That was my initial thought, but after looking at some HZ cards, it really doesn't look anything like them.
This one seems more vampiric than zombic.

Damn! I wish I knew about these earlier. Surprised nobody posted about them when they were newly released. Now they are selling for a fortune on eBay! How rare are they?

Were these "C" variations part of the Collector's Boxes as a insert or were they randomly found in Retail and Hobby Boxes and well as Collector's boxes....if its all over I have a lot of searching to do...I did pull a MLB #19 variation...have to check the other 2...

makes it interesting so late in the game!!

I had a couple that I sold a while ago. I never realized they had different images on the front. I thought it was only the back. Dang!

so did most of us...it was never mentioned before...

Well, I think we all took it for granted that the fronts would be the same.  I only reason I noticed is that I did the gag, so the image change stood out!

I am really distressed about this.  I thought I had one sticker of each different piece of art for ANS11, and now I see I don't.  Guess I didn't spend enough for Topps.

Had intended to use a small windfall on a case of Wacky Chrome until I saw this.  Now, I am seriously reconsidering.........

Speaking of small windfalls, I think Topps missed the boat by not having a Wacky Package release available now, when many are getting tax refunds back and, at least temporarily, have a small windfall in hand. And before the weather is nice enough, for most of us, to spend it on outdoor related projects and activities.

yes. collector boxes only.
I got 1 in a whole case, so fairly rare.
super easy to spot, actually, once you know what you are looking for.
The 4th card in the pack is always an insert card. These were in that 4th spot, so initially folks thought they were being 'shorted' an insert, when actually it was a C variation.

There must be a nice inside joke going on with Andrew K. on that card.  Maybe an artist will comment?

These three cards represent a nice little Wacky Mystery.  I wonder if this will be the trend going forward.

Throw in little twists and see if they get noticed.  Sure took long enough for these to get some exposure.

I'm sure it will continue. It's been going on with GPK for a couple sets now. I think they have way more than 3 to deal with though

Andrew K "Opened" for Black Sabbath last summer in NJ.  All he did was play cd's on stage and talk about how psyched he was to see Sabbath.

One of the most unusual opening acts I have seen. Never sang one of his own songs, just DJ'd and shot T Shirts  into the  crowd with a T Shirt gun. So I have seen him but never actually saw him perform.

A second print run with some revived art?
same print run
these are the 3 C variations that were included in the Collector Edition boxes.
GPK's have done this for a few sets, having 18 C cards in BNS2, 11  C's in BNS3, and some in Chrome as well

Didn't GPK Chrome have some crazy number like 20?

Grabbing more numbers off of Barren Aaron's site, looks like GPK chrome did indeed have 20 like you say.
As well, there's the 2014 set, which had 11.
We were fortunate to only have 3 C's in ANS11.

Yo Scot, I think what Patrick is driving at is that you should claim more allowances on your w4 form...that way you get more of your money from each paycheck, rather than waiting at tax return time to get it.  :D
