Title: 2013 Spring Allentown (Philly) show on May 4th and 5th
Post by: Pupsi-Cola on April 03, 2013, 08:21:23 PM
Thought I would start the merry-go-round with a new thread for the Philly Non-Sport Show since the other one hadn't been posted on for almost 4 months, This Sat. the (6th) we will be 3 weeks out from the show and we should start a head count to see who is coming. I will be there on Sat. and possibly staying overnight, But not sure yet, Hope to find out that answer very soon.

I will be coming on the 3rd (6 hour drive from here) and staying over to make it early on Saturday. This will be my first Philly show as I just moved close enough to justify it.

Is it worth staying Saturday night? Is that mostly to socialize or is there enough to see that it takes 2 days?

I'm definitely there for both days. My table has been confirmed. As I've always mentioned in the past, all are welcome to congregate at my table to chat & trade Wacky Packages. I won't have the red Wacky Packages banner on the front of my table this time around, so look for a banner with "The Wright Stuff" logo and a giant copy of my signature on it ~ or, you can just look for the table being manned by a skinny, bald-headed "Wacky Geek"! See ya there!

You can cover the whole show in a few hours.  There is a pinball show in Allentown where you pay one price and play most of the games all day long, old and new.  If I can escape to come out that Saturday, I plan to do the non-sport show for a couple of hours then bolt to the pinball show.  I think trading a George's table sounds like fun as sitting in the hallway dominating the few cafeteria tables meant for people who want to sit and eat is generally frowned upon but some wacky pack collectors have generally been flipping their noses to that and hogging the tables all day anyway.

Pinball...show...*drool*. It looks like that starts on Friday? My wife and son were on the fence about coming along, this will probably tip the balance.

It's tough to know what to do, the venue sucks bigtime for outside dealing. When it used to be at that
Community College in Jersey it was fantastic, lots of well lit tables. Now you have to worry about pork grease
soiling that mint Bum Chex you just paid $200 for....

Not sure that George's table is going to have room for 15 wacky collectors. Sitting at the cafeteria tables isn't ideal but at least the non sports card show brings the cafeteria a lot of business they wouldn't have otherwise. Should we seriously consider sitting on the floor and trading?

True! I'm not sure how much room there is between the back of the table and the table parallel to it in the next row. If there is enough room in that spot (and the surrounding vendors don't mind) I have no problem with traders congregating there. Anything that I have at the show will be on & under the table. Just some food for thought!

I think the wacky collectors hogging those tables lowers the upside take for the cafeteria as I know several people go to the diner down the street for lunch because there is "never any seating available" by the cafeteria.  It is ok, the table hogging has gone on for years, no reason for common courtesy to suddenly kick in now....  I saw one year the cafe mgr asked greg and matt to move along and they each threw $5 at him saying they were still paying customers.  I really doubt that very generous $10 covered the potential loss of customers who didn't stop at the cafe due to no tables being available.

It's been 2 years since I've been there so I don't remember how much room there is past the cafeteria tables, but do you think there is room for card tables that we can set up there? I am not even sure how mall management would feel about such a thing, just an idea.

One of us should contact Roxanne and ask her if there is a solution to that issue.  Ernie is right that the snack bar loses business by collectors consuming the tables, but to be honest if I didn't have a place to sit and hang out and trade with other collectors I would be bummed and would be on the fence about going to the show at all.

I think it is a great idea that should be endorsed by the show promoters so the mall mgt doesn't become a factor.

Well I can bring a couple of card tables and a few chairs. I don't like the idea of cutting into the place's business but I like the idea of not getting to sit and hang out even less.

Last time I actually had to leave the snack bar area to sit and eat my lunch, since the tables were all full.  Standing up and using the trash can top as a "table" just wasn't working for me.......

I plan on being there Saturday, as usual...and agree with John on the hanging out aspect and the "hogging" of the eatery seats. I have a folding table that is bigger than a card table I could bring and will try and bring along a few seats. Maybe someone should contact Roxanne and see if all of this would be doable...even if we set up near that "cove" area around the corner.

Ernie,  could you also give info on the pinball show.  Since I am going to be there that sounds also like a lot of fun.

Someday I'd like to explore that whole place.  Comics, magazines, records, trains, old toys, trading cards, etc.  Protective packaging for all of that.  Handcrafted stuff.  A few members have left with nice furniture.

I was toying with the idea of starting to buy complete set of the o.w.p. 1-16 until I saw the cost of series 16 (wow!!!$$$).  but while I love wackys , Mad was my original love and I have decided to start rebuilding my collection (300 by 88, that I stupidly sold to party). so im hoping I can find some there (otherwise it will be the madstore.com). otherwise I will hopefully fill some ans, 85 and 91 holes.

It would be great if there were seats others than the cafeteria ones to sit at.  You are right if Roxanne could speak to mall management first that would be helpful. I don't feel comfortable taking the cafeteria seats which is why I usually leave so quickly.

There is that area around the corner from the cafeteria, but it may be a fire marshal issue.

I seem to remember a philly show about 4 years ago. It was the show that Dave Gross was showing some people some of the old school wackys art about a year or so before old school 1 was released. A whole bunch of us wacky collectors were in this big room with many tables. Then in years after that we were forced to sit at tables in the hall right outside of the showroom. Whatever happened to that big room? I remember many empty tables there. Was that at a different venue? My memory for details like this is not good.

No, it was there. If you are standing at the eatery ordering, it was just to the right and I think was part of the eatery's space. I recall sitting in there and eating once. It's still there, but I believe is not available for seating anymore. Think they use it for other purposes or something...

Ok that makes sense. That's just where I remember it being but for the life of me I don't know why it's been closed the last 5 or 6 shows. They really ought to open it up when there are big conventions in the mall. I guess this minimizes the feel bad for shorting their table space feeling if the mall or Roxanne aren't on board with us setting up trading tables. I am trying to be optimistic but it's certainly not a given that they will allow our ideas.

I remember a room upstairs that was used for giving away some anniversary stuff but I don't remember a room near the eatery.  I do remember seeing all of Dave's art for this old school series idea, that was very cool.

I remember you, me, Greg (3 people with the same birthday) and one or 2 other people standing there looking at Dave's art. I remember being particularly struck by how cool Bark was. It was in that big room next to the food place, I am fairly sure of that now.

The room John is talking about is behind the eatery, it's part of the eatery. It used to be a bunch of tables for people to sit and eat at, but there were enough that we could use them without it monopolizing the whole place. It still sucked because there was grease and food all over the place, but it was at least roomier.

The 3 of you have the same birthday, that's cool!

What are the odds of that? Somehow I think 1/365 to the third power is wrong. Isn't this a common (tricky) question on a Probability 101 test ...

I think the odds of any 3 random people having the same birthday is 365.25 squared. There are lots of 3 random people in the wacky community, so that isn't the answer you are looking for.

Yes, that makes sense, since it could be any day of the year.

I believe it would be 365 cubed if you asked what are the odds of the three of you having a particular day, such as April 1st, National WP Day, as your birthdays

I haven't heard anything confirming that they will even be at the show.  I hope they will because it would seem empty without their tables set-up.

What kind of toys?  You might not even get out of the Allentown show with any money left to spend on the 5th.......

don't exactly know what kind of toys, it looked like a mix of recent and old. I seen it on the "toyhunter" show( which I think is great and he's from jersey and his shop is here in jersey too).  I'm always looking for stuff to do with the kid and you never know what you'll find.

I meant, what kinds of toys are you interested in?  I have a ridiculous amount of sci-fi toys, and some other TV/movie/comic related stuff.  Lots of Batman, Star Trek, Star Wars, Simpsons, etc.  I've cut back to almost nothing new, but there have been some Mego style figures the last few years that I haven't been able to pass up.

Im personally not really into collecting toys for myself, its for the boy.
he loves tmnt (we collected the ENTIRE 2k3 line) so were on the hunt for the new wave that is making its way into stores now. he liked legos for a while and gijoe when the 1st movie came out a few years ago. he was never really a toy kid. he followed in his fathers footsteps and is more of a technology kid(gaming since 1 1/2)
when I was a kid I was all about gijoe and voltron (besides mad and wackys of course).
we talked about the toy market and probably aren't going only because we aren't on the hunt for anything older that's not currently in stores. besides, wayne is a hike from were we live.

Toy collecting is as bad as card collecting, but it takes up more space........  Imagine my torture when action figures started coming out with special trading cards in the packaging!!

Besides WP (and other parody card items), I also collect Dinosaur trading cards. Kenner came out with a line of JURASSIC PARK toys with trading cards in them. Althought the cards certainly aren't rare... many people want to sell them for about 90% of what the toy cost. Makes it tough to put a set of the cards together if you are not also collecting the toys.

If it were for me I would admit it. the last toy I bought for myself was the voltron 20th anniversary editon nearly 10 years ago. the hardest 125 I spent on something that was going to sit in a storage tub.

I loved amassing all the 2k3 tmnt(the wife wasn't so happy), and was thrilled when he liked gijoe.

but really not for me   ;)

I just sent her an email about it so I'll let you know what she says.  I asked her about whether Topps will be at the show, and if so, who it will be.

I also asked her about the snack bar/tables dilemma we've had the past few years.  Hopefully she'll have some thoughts on how to remedy the situation to keep everyone happy.

UPDATE...........

Roxanne said that Topps Vault will not be at the show, but there will be someone from Topps promoting an exclusive Star Wars card.  Doesn't sound like any Wacky items at this show, unless they are putting something inside the admission kits.

As far as the snack bar seating goes, she understands the issue and said that she's tried to work something out with the mall owner about it but hasn't got any cooperation.  She is also sensitive to us using all of the food tables and having patrons complain that they don't have anywhere to sit and eat.

But she said she had another idea for us and she would get back to me about it before the show.  Maybe she'll find space inside the dealer area or something.  There is open space at the opposite end of the hallway, but it's pretty far away from the action and I'm not sure it would get used.  Hopefully she'll come up with something.

This may end up being a "can of worms" scenario, because if she isn't able to find a solution, I definitely won't be comfortable sitting at the snack bar tables going forward, even if I'm chewing food the whole time!

What is the Wacky landscape like at this show? I have been to some sports card shows, but there's usually just a scattering of guys with a few binders of non-sports cards and, if I'm lucky, they might have a few Wackys. I have much higher hopes for this show, but I don't want to get too geeked and be disappointed. At this point in my collecting I am not looking for anything too exotic, still filling OS holes and looking for upgrades. I need to complete about half my 16th series still and there's holes in almost every other series. Are the tables the big draw or is it more about the side deals with fellow collectors? I'm not sure whether to bring my box of "seconds" along.

I remember when I first went, I was expecting something totally different - a lot more wackys. Many (10 to 15) dealers have some wackys. Wackys are far from the show's focus. What you find will be totally random. You may find a rare item at one of the dealers, but it's not like you can pull out a wants list & start ticking items off. It's more like doing a lot of digging & you might find something that interests you. There are a lot of average condition common stickers. Many dealers also charge prices that are a lot higher than ebay, but you can find some deals. I picked up a nice oddie boy at the last show for $1 lumped in with a lot of other stickers. If you are looking to plug holes in a 1st to 15th set, you've got a good chance of knocking a decent number of titles out if you aren't super picky about condition.

Clearly, the value I find in the show is meeting the people from the forum and in trading with them outside the show. If it weren't for that, I wouldn't waste my time with the show, and would be totally happy with spending $20 to $30 for a show promo. It would save me about 1/2 tank of gas and most of the day.

Might be a good idea for people who are going to post wants lists in the thread, & others who are going can get ideas of what to bring if they have something someone else is looking for.

There are certainly dealers with wackys. I would say finding anyone with a selection of 16ths would be unlikely, but normal original series stuff in decent shape is available.

Definitely there's always been a greater selection of wackys from fellow collectors, but that depends heavily on who's attending. Ernie doesn't really bring his stuff to shows anymore I don't think. If Matt Stock is coming, he often brings tons of stuff, literally boxes and boxes of original series stuff, and he probably has 16ths.

At this point I'm not sure who is coming that would be bringing lots of wackys.

Yes, Greg & Matt have both brought large amounts of os singles lately. Matt did have a lot of 16ths last time. If you have specific items in mind, it would definitely be worth e-mailing them to see if they are going & to make requests in advance.

I wouldn't say it's a reason for going or not. I just found it noteworthy because they always seem to be there. They usually do have some type of promo or new item, and there's no shipping involved, but it's by no means a deal maker/breaker.

I thought they might have continued their funpak promo [they actually had a funpak promo at the last show], or released their ans10 binders at the show, but maybe they ran out of extra sketches or have nothing going on now.

It's not my primary reason but I do like it when they are there, especially the past couple shows because they've had special cards, funpack skecthes, postcard sets, etc., which adds to the excitement factor.  It just takes away one element from the show for me.

Hi Rob,

O.K., here’s what I came up with. We can set-up two tables inside the showroom for Saturday only (we’ll be using these tables for the 501st Star Wars Legion on Sunday). I figure we can put eight chairs around the two tables (tables will be in the front part of the room and we will set-up the eight chairs).

Here are the conditions: You must be seated at all times which means only as many people as chairs can be there at the same time. No shouting or disturbing table holders. You will not use the tables by the café. Please let me know as soon as you can if this will be ok.

I agree with this assessment. I think if they could up it to 12 chairs, it would probably be better because I would estimate there are usually around 10 people hanging out at the lunch tables at any given time. I don't recall anyone shouting or making any kind of ruckus, so I don't know where Roxanne's concern for that came from???

I agree that there will be some "coming and going".  It's hard for us to feel like we are confined to the tables when we've had the freedom to come and go as we want.  If there's a group of us hanging at the tables in the dealer area that Roxanne's works out for us, other collectors will be coming over to chat, and who who "police" that?  I think I have to let her know what we would expect, and if she's open to it we can try it for a show to see how it goes.

The problem I'm foreseeing is that if the tables in the dealer area doesn't work out we're going to be in a stricter scenario going forward, because she's made it clear that the tables near the snack bar are for eating only.  I know I definitely won't be comfortable hanging out there after having the conversation with Roxanne.

To be honest without Topps Vault being there and the ability to hang out at the tables, I would probably skip the show.

I agree with this. I also agree with Kook that 8 will be a bit restrictive, at least at times. I definitely appreciate Roxanne's offer to do this, though. Not having the cafe option available, esp. if the given tables fill, would suck exceptionally. I guess the BYOTAC (Bring Your Own Table And Chairs) option is off the table, eh?

Maybe you missed those shows, LOL.

Mainly, I suspect she's just laying the rules out there. I can understand that she doesn't want any "scenes" in the same room as most of the guests and dealers. A very reasonable request, in my book: You'll go to your room without your Wackys, if you don't behave.

Because not all of us can stay after the show. This is poor organization, this venue is huge, there's no reason a
larger area couldn't be set aside for these purposes. It can only benefit the store fronts in the mall to have
people hanging out inside the building.

Not only that but to me it's a lot more fun to hang at the show than to be at a location outside the show.  You also end up meeting new people because everyone walks by the "old" location by the concession area.

Sounds to me like they are heavily focused on the problem (misusing the cafeteria) instead of a solution. Seems really odd.

Ok, it sounds like we have a solution to the issue, although it's only temporary.  This is from Roxanne............

Hi Rob,

I know there would be coming and going from the table which is fine. You should just try to limit the people at the tables to those there are enough chairs for. I don’t want standing around and crowding the aisles which would make it hard for collectors to get to the neighboring tables. A couple of people standing there would be ok.

I have to send in the table layout so I’m assigning these two tables for you guys. When you enter the room, the tables will be to the right in the front corner. It just so happens there were a couple of cancellations so I am able to do this but it will probably be a one-time thing. Don’t forget, it’s only for Saturday—the day most of you come anyway.

I'm telling Roxanne to make sure your admission kit is missing the Wacky promo!

They are also timing the patrons eating habits for this show.  If you are sitting at the snack bar tables and go longer than 60 seconds without chewing or sipping your straw, alarms will start to go off!

Don't we also have a bit of space at George Wright's table, too? I bet George wouldn't mind having a couple folks gather 'round his space to do some dealin'...this at least gives us a little more "elbow room".

Speaking for myself, I attend these shows year after year just so I can hang out with everyone, My wants are mostly tied to the newer stuff, But I feel that soon in the near future I'll be able to afford the vintage material again. I do some trading while I'm there.

Do you have any NM-MT 16ths for trade or sale? I am bringing some 16th singles to trade for other 16ths. I do not know the titles I'm looking for off the top of my head (I'm at work!) but I'll have the singles and my needs list at the show.

I'm looking forward to meeting people tomorrow. We had a blast this afternoon at Pinfest at the fair grounds, probably a couple hundred machines in the free play area. Lots of 60s EM and plenty of newer stuff. The only disappointment was only one Addams Family table and it had a wonky left flipper. There was one vendor selling uncut Wacky series 1 reprint sheets for $25

Anyhow, I vacillated on bringing my extras since most 1-16 are not high grade, but I threw them in the car anyhow. I have some ANS extras, including a lot of ANS 10 stuff, but nothing special.

Cheers.

Paul

SO, How is the show ?

It's kind of hard for me to comment on the full scope of the show, since I was pretty much anchored to my table for the duration, but from what I could see, it looked well attended by forum members. The "Wacky Packages Table" that Roxanne reserved for trading was the Wacky hot spot. A lot of action there!

To the amazement of many, our good friend Andy Herrman (Ditch Masters) was at the show! It was great to chat with him and catch up on stuff. I got to meet a few forum members for the first time.

Dave Schmidt (Paul Maul) had, in my opinion, the coolest Wacky moment ever! I don't want to steal his thunder, so hopefully he'll elaborate on that event!

Can't wait until tomorrow!

A dealer at the show (imapackman from ebay) had two 7th gumless unopened packs at his table which he sold me for $15 total. I bought them to open for fun because they were cheap, and I thought I might score some nice sticker. Inside the first pack was this:

Congrats!! That's pretty awesome Dave... You always seem to have good luck in finding the packs at the show.  It wasn't but a just couple of years ago when you found a few 16th Series packs, and one happened to have a Scott N/C shinning through the back.

SO, How is the show ?
Overall, I thought it went very well. The tables Roxanne set up for us provided plenty of space for all, though we had enough stuff to fill it up pretty well, too. As is typical for me, I didn't do extraordinarily well with the dealers, but wasn't looking for much, either. I went with the focus of finding a Partridge Family poster pack (or two) to help complete the full box I'm building. Surprisingly, I actually found one for a fair price, so that was a score for me.

Picked up a gold ANS10 and a handful of series 15 upgrades from Matt Stock. Matt also gave me a couple of ANS10 empty collector boxes for my collection, which was cool of him.

Also spent a couple of hours trading original series with Andy Hermann, who we were all a bit shocked to see! That was great fun. Hadn't seen him since the "Great Assemblage of 2005".

I believe there was some kind of "official photographer" for the show there taking candids (I assume for NSU and/or the website). I saw him snapping some of our trading table, so we may show up in the mag or website in the not-too-distant future...

All in all, a good, productive show for me....except for the ride home, as I-78 had a construction backup which caused me an hour delay in getting home.

I had a fun time at the show, For myself I was able to complete my bonus ones for ans 10 (A big Thank you to MS) and I got a poster set from the "73" series and also picked up cards for those who couldn't attend. In attendance at the Wacky table that Roxanne Toser set up for us, It was fun to hang out with Char Boy (Greg), Battle Caps (Matt), Paul Maul (Dave), Big Tomi (Tom), Freetoes (John), Ditch Masters (Andy), Dr. Popper (Rob), J Leonard (Joe), Duck & Hide (Anthony), Kook (Bill), Buzzooka (Mark), Stingline (Paul), Scary Lee (John) and his brother Tim. For those who couldn't make it, Band-Aches (Ernie), Brute 88 (Brian), Campy (Mark), De-Mented (Frank), Dr. Deal (Andrew), Hipton (Cheryl), Lucidjc (James), Monsterettes (Elizabeth), Playbug (Jeff), Ratchet 007 (Brian), and Raw Goo (Pat).

Hey Brother Shoe!

It was great to get to actually talk with you for more than  couple of minutes! Thank you for showing that little Wacky collector, Levi, your Pupsi tattoo! (his dad & grandmother got a kick out of that!) Hope to see you at the Fall show!

I'm not sure if that has been reported before, however I have definitely also pulled Grime Dusty from Gumless packs. So I guess it can go either way.

Could you see any sticker showing through the pack when you opened it?  I assume the knight-move theory applied?

I didn't see anything showing through. The sticker in with the Grime Heavy was Feetena. So I believe it does obey a "wraparound" Knight's move. Although packs with one card on the edge of the sheet often don't obey the Knight's move.

Yes it was great to talk with you just mono a mono as well, That is something I never got to do at any of the other shows due to you being so busy doing cards for collectors that would come by your table to say Hi and talk Wacky's of course. I would of included your name with the other collectors that attended the show and hung out at the table, But I knew that due to having your own table set-up, You couldn't come over and join in on the jam & trading session. And lastly Lord willing I hope to be at the fall show in Sept.

George, I haven't been on the forum since the show, and I was wondering why I didn't see you there.  I thought maybe you couldn't make it or something.  I walked around all of the tables twice so I have no idea how I didn't see you.  Where was your table located?

Hey Rob! My table was in the same spot as the last two shows (next to the raffle/prize entry table) I only got away from my table once to say "Hi" to Jeff Zappata!

Speaking of the Fall show, I exchanged a few more emails with Roxanne, and as we know the tables were a temporary fix because she had some tables open for this past show.  She said she could reserve one table for us permanently if we could gather up a group to help pay for it.  She suggested $10.00 each with a minimum of $100.00 total for the table.

I think it's a fair suggestion, especially given that the snack bar area had even less seating than past shows.  I saw several people eating on the floor (me included) because there wasn't enough seating to eat, so doing our gig at the food tables won't be a good option in the future.  To me it's worth the 10 bucks to be able to sit down and hang out with everyone and it's a bonus to be in the actual show area, but please chime in and let me know what you think.

If we have 10 of us or so that are willing to pay $10.00 each, than the question is how do we coordinate collecting the money and managing the process?  I would think Roxanne will want the table pre-paid, so someone like myself would have to fork over the payment, and then coordinate collecting from others, which is kind of a pain in the neck.  And I could also see people coming and sitting down for a little while, and we would have to discuss how to handle that.

I thought of this option and was hoping the suggestion would come up. I would be more than willing to pay $10 per show for this setup; maybe even $20 to get the 2 tables again. I agree that this was much more relaxing not having to worry about people giving you the evil eye while we hog the cafe tables. No pressure to leave...and we're not really "on display" quite as much, either. More room to work, too.

I suggest the payment arrangement all be done with Paypal, if possible. Someone (I'd volunteer to start) would collect the $$ from everyone else (they just Paypal me $10 or send me cash/check). If we get enough, we're golden and I'll pay Roxanne whichever way she prefers. If we don't, I just refund everyone...and I skip that show, as it'll suck without a trading table. LOL

I loosely discussed with Roxanne that collectors wanting to spend time at the Wacky table could spend the extra $10.00 at the admission table and would get a 2nd wristband of a different color that could go on the other wrist.

Anyone that sits at the Wacky table without a proper wristband will be immediately tasered (I volunteered to control the taser gun-sounds like fun!).

That's a great idea Rob. I'd gladly pay an extra $10 for "table privileges", and wouldn't really want to pay many months in advance when I might not be able to attend the show. That also doesn't put someone in an uncomfortable position of trying to manage many transactions and chase people for $10 and try to track who paid. The extra wristbands are a good way of "self-policing" the event as people who don't have a bracelet would feel uncomfortable around those who paid their dues.

Good idea. Makes a lot of sense to just pay for the privilege at admission time....however, is Roxanne willing to set aside the space at each show with the potential of not selling enough wristbands to cover things?

I (or someone) would probably have to be willing to fork over the $100.00 minimum ahead of time to give Roxanne peace of mind that she won't be losing table revenue from it.

Don't worry, there were no Wacky promos.  I collect other non-sports cards, and like the special show cards as well, so when I can't go I always ask someone to pick up a pack for me.  Rittenhouse usually has some nice promos at their table, too, but I guess not this year.

One promo that may interest a number of people here is for the new Mars Attacks Invasion series, due out in October.  100 base cards with all new painted art, plus sketches, plates, medallions, and patches.  The buy back cards are vintage 1962 cards.

One was for The Civil War Chronicles, which looks promising.  Portraits of Poe might be neat.  There were also 4 Philly show cards (#73-76), Revenge, Monsterwax, The Deep, Bench Warmers, American Horror Story, Classic Mythology II, Legendary Lovecraft, Bettie Page (this is a "thank you card" for the success of the set), Jack's Sketch Artist series, Zombies vs. Cheerleaders, Once Bitten - Art of the Vampires, and Adventures of Mac and Trouble.

Other than the Philly show cards, the last ones don't grab me, so if anyone here is interested, LMK.

A dealer at the show (imapackman from ebay) had two 7th gumless unopened packs at his table which he sold me for $15 total. I bought them to open for fun because they were cheap, and I thought I might score some nice sticker. Inside the first pack was this:

Lucky enough to get a Grime Heavy at all, but this one has perfect centering, perfect corners, no roller marks....not super white, but I guess I can't complain!

I gotcha. When you click on the link it doesn't show you the banner. It only takes me to pictures.

Hi all,

Roxanne touched base with me and wants to know if we are still interested in a Wacky table for the 9/21 show.  If so she's looking for a deposit to hold the table by 8/23 for the minimum amount of $100.00.  I would like to hear from the people that attend the show if they are willing to pay the extra $10.00 to have access to the show.  To me it's well worth it, but there may be some who could care less.

Anyway, I'd be willing to front the $100.00 if I have a comfort that at least 9 other people would pay the $10.00 as well.  After that as long as Roxanne gets her minimum $100.00 I would get refunded my deposit money (less my $10.00), and she would keep any money for additional admissions above and beyond the $100.00.  If it works out she said it could be an ongoing thing.

I'm in, so we would need 9 more, so any regulars (such as Dave S., Tom P., Bill F., Mark S., etc.) or anyone else planning on attending please chime in as to whether you are in or out, and then I'll decide how to handle it.

I told her to give me a few days to confirm the interest level.  I'll start a list of collectors who would pay the extra $10.00 to use the table.........

Rob P. (Dr Popper)

Thanks!

I'm happy to pay, but will people who haven't paid just use the table anyway? How will that be policed?

I'm planning on going, and would be willing to pay to use the table if there's a chance I'll be able to sit at it for a bit to chat with friends and maybe do some trading, but am also wondering how many people can comfortably use the table, and how it will be policed.  An extra wristband maybe?

I assume we will still be allowed to use the tables by the luncheonette for actually eating lunch.  That way, less BBQ sauce on the stickers  :)

My suggestion to Roxanne was when we pay the admission into the show we tell them we also want access to the wacky table, and we pay the extra 10 bucks and get a separate colored wristband that can be worn on the other wrist.

There will be one table for this show, not two, but with two tables we could have had 16 people there at the same time without a problem.  I'm thinking in the neighborhood of 10 at the same time for one table, but I can ask Roxanne what she thinks.

As far as policing it, that's where it gets tricky, because I'm sure there will be some people coming over and hanging out without the wristband, and I really don't want the extra responsibility of being the bad guy and telling them to hit the road!  Maybe there could be a sign up on the table saying you must have the extra wristband or something, but ultimately it will have to be a collective effort or I don't think it will work.  If it ends up being a free for all and some say screw it and use the table w/o paying, then we know it won't work for the future, and we'll have to go back to the old system for future shows.

All I know is that if we wanted to hang at the snack bar at the last show it would have been next to impossible because they had LESS seating out there than prior years.

And yes, we would still be able to use the snack tables for eating.  I don't think they allow food in the vendor's area for good reason!

Scary Lee was there last time
Possibly the other Marc S (Quas)
Matt & Greg were at the table too. Maybe Rob may want to reach out to them. That would make 11.

Campy, are you going to be able to make this show?

I sent Matt and Greg an email and I'll let you know what they say, but it sounds like based on what we have already we should be ok with the # willing to chip in for the table.

Hey Rob,

I haven't made a show in quite some time but I am planning on attending this one.  I wall gladly pay the $10 for the table, and if I can't make it, then someone gets my spot.  No worries.  I would like to have the opportunity yo have access to the table just in case I make it.

Thanks,
Bill

Add me I'll contribute 10.00 (Joe L.) you want it via PayPal or at the show?

Sounds like we'll have enough support to make this work, so I'll take care of paying Roxanne upfront for the table.

Thanks for the payment offer, but I'll coordinate the money with Roxanne, and my guess is that everyone will pay at the booth with admission, just by mentioning you want the extra wristband for access to the Wacky table.

if you pay upfront shouldn't we pay you, not at the door?  Also if we do the wrist band will that be for both days?
