What product is this sketch part of? I saw that auction and had no idea where it came from.

The April Wacky Comic, of course!

Does each comic come with a sketch? I thought the funpaks were old leftover sketches from olds or PC releases in the envelope like at the philly show??? Do they contain either an old sketch or a new one?

Yes

My understanding is that the fun paks may contain an Old School Sketch, All New Series Sketch, Postcard Sketch or New Wacky Packages 1st Annual Wacky Day Sketch card.  There are probably many hidden gems along with some awful sketch cards as well.   It going to be fun opening these if they ever ship.

Also sketches from the last 2 comics.

Were any sketches previously released with the last 2 comics or were they part of the postcard releases?

They were part of the postcard series and some of the sketches appearing in the fun paks were sold at New York Card Show last year.

When were they sold in NY? The comic sketches I'm referring to are from the holiday and ground hog day comic. These were just released over the last 3 months. My understanding is these will be used in the fun packs.

The fun paks at the NY show consisted of mainly OLDS3 sketches but there were other sketches mixed in there as well.

I noticed they goofed on the Run Tony card - the side panel of the box didn't change to reflect the Run Tiny gag.

good eye! They still show the bullet on the side as well so this gag makes no sense.

I just noticed that the "Dill" pickles are all the same pickle art, just different angles & sizes with a bite mark added to one of them. (Okay, that's it, I need a life :^))

Also noticed that the hand holding the fly swatter in the "Run Tiny" art is a photoshopped copy of the trigger hand from the Run Tony machine gunner. It's pretty clean so it looks like it may have been copied from the 1st edition coffee table book.

Here's a funpak/comic sketch spoiler
(http://s17.postimg.org/3rknitoy3/wacky_funpak_back.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/3rknitoy3/)
Note the sketch is #169/276. I'm assuming there were 276 comic sketches and the rest of the funpak sketches were extras from various series. I wonder if they shipped out sketches from the comic series first & then the misc/extra leftover sketches, or if it was totally random i.e. earlier orders got comic sketches, and later orders (post # 276) got random/leftover sketches or the entire process was random??

P.S. another spoiler - the 4 card comic bonus set:

So far it looks like people are getting at least one of the April sketches. I wonder if that was the plan? I'll know tomorrow since I should have 6 fun packs.

Also, could you see the card through the envelope?

I think I did great on the fun packs. Got only April and comic sketches. Just what I wanted. Even a couple Ono's showing off the Wonky Packages. Pretty cool! I wonder who did the top right sketch? Reminds me of Simko but he always signs his. I don't know all the artists that worked on these off the top. I probably should now check out the comic :o

The Holliday 2012 sketches are only being released now with the fun packs. I also think the groundhog comic sketches are also in the fun packs. There are only 92 of the Holliday sketch cards made and I would assume the same for groundhog so they are very limited.

What were your OS4 sketches like? Or are you going to show those in another thread? I'm not expecting my delivery until next week perhaps - living in the west coast has its wacky drawbacks...

Here are my Funpak pulls:

(http://s9.postimg.org/nhr59qrbv/Sketches001.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/nhr59qrbv/)

Both comic sketches are by Brent Engstrom.  I like all three a lot!  The April Fool's sketch is especially nice, with both the Fool and a Wacky product.  The Simko is really sharp and spooky.  The snowflake/flower border for the Groundhog Day sketches is neat.  Had hoped for one from each comic, so will look around for a nice Holiday sketch.

The Clubbed crackers piece that ended up as a bonus card in ANS10 was originally slated to be in series 7 of the Postcards. I did a very small number of sketches based on Clubbed at that time before plans changed.

Boy, did I get totally screwed on the fun packs. At least I got a groundhog comic sketch. The other sketches are very common. Where did Topps find the Postcard sketches? I thought they were sold out? I thought a majority of the fun packs would be all comic sketches and possibly a few of the OLDS3 sketches where the boxes got crushed so they couldn't sell them.

I like that Groundhog Day border too - thought it was the holiday one at first until I read backwards through the thread. So you got it as a gift? $100 worth of Wacky stuff? Nice!  :great:

I got only one Fun Pack with enough of an order to get the Holiday comics I missed out on previously (due to shipping). I managed to pull an April Fool's comic sketch (the evolution of Wackys or something) - I have to wait to look at it tomorrow (really tired right now). Like it though!

I definitely prefer the wrapping they did with the earlier comics (Holiday and Groundhogs) with the hardboard and nice plastic envelope. The April Fool's shrink wrap seems a little cheap imo (it's like the last Halloween shrink wrap) - I'm also annoyed I have to unwrap it to confirm these contain unique bonus cards but then I have nothing to put them back into (unlike the others). A minor nit. Also the funpack and 4th bonus card were just kinda there - again a little "dull" - and my envelope sticky wasn't even stuck - lol - again, all minor nits (I would have put all the bonus cards into holders separate from the comics and put the comics in the nicer containers).

Yeah, my mom gets a kick out of buying me Wackys like she did 40 years ago.  What's weird (and annoying) is every time she orders, Topps sends her package "signature required," which is a pain for her.  Sometimes she doesn't hear the knock, or get there fast enough.  Anyway, she enjoyed reading the comic.

I would have preferred the regular comic bag and board too, but guess this is cheaper for them.  Also, I was able to tell which bonus cards were inside the sealed comics by getting the card to the top edge if the wrapper, then marked them with post it notes.

Exactly, Topps used them to move product. I believe Topps did very well doing this. At least they still had OLDS4 boxes or this could have been a total failure.

I thought I was missing something! I've not seen any of the comics yet...

Its my week at home so was catching up on mail, etc. tonight. Here were my pulls from two Fun Packs and one OS4 box:

20/92 from 2012 Holiday Crunch (Camera) and 039/276 from April 1st (Brower)

The Holdiay card is #31/92. I was originally disappointed to get a PC sketch, but after I looked at it I really came to like the Joe Simko drawing. What wacky product is on the OS4 J.Brower sketch?

And, I doubt the number will help you figure anything out anyway.  Some are not individual panels, they are pieces of the larger artwork.

Sort of...some of the artist's sketches are direct from the comics (ie, Jay's "Hairy Mane, Brent's "Ground hog day", etc). But some of the artists chose to redraw their comic as separate panels. This would allow them to expand on the page layout so that they could do irregular shaped panels.

So potentially, you could get a completely unique sketch card that looks nothing like the comic!

Was about to post the sketch card I pulled and it sounds like it fits your description, Neil - really like it btw! - I noticed immediately it differs from the comic book and I love the fact that it does (sorry is slightly out-of-focus and is inside sleeve/toploader):

I did wish Topps had done the Groundhog's Day and Holiday comics such that buying 3 got you a sketch card. I'd love to have one of each of these but figure it's going to be pretty tough.

Here's my funpack pulls. I had only purchased one OS4 box in the past, and wanted to get more, so this was a chance to pick up a few more and get a couple of fun packs to go along with them.
I got three OS4 boxes and the comics 3-5, so it went just over $200 qualifying me for two of the packs.
The Fun Packs held an April sketch, one of the 35 or 36 by Brent Engstrom and there was one from the Neil Camera comic, a nice low number at that, 7 of 92.
My three old school boxes had a Lynch, Parisi, and a Gambino. The box I'd purchased previously had a nice Parisi, so not too shabby, altogether.
One kind of odd thing, out of all 4 boxes, I received only ONE single white back wrapper sticker, and no promos or logo cards. I did really well with the Ludbacks on those, at least, but it was a really lopsided mix to be sure. I'll post the OS4 sketches from the boxes over on that thread.

I have a nagging question about the Chef Girl-ar-dee title. It’s very possible it has been discussed before, and I’m not remembering. What does “Net Wt. 1MS.” mean?  I assume it’s a gag but don’t get it. Or is it a typo?

What is the deal with all the PC 7 sketches showing up? These are all from the April event from Topps. There have been around 20 showing up already. I thought Topps sold out? Is this a percentage they hang on to I case of missing or damaged orders?
It's strang because a lot of the good ones and stuff that hasn't shown up before is showing up now.

Neil posted about April being Wacky Month (see link below for the forum entry). It does "kinda" sound like there will be items throughout the month by the use of the phrase "ALL MONTH LONG" but, in all fairness to Neil,  all the specifics mentioned either come to pass or are still ongoing. Some may have read more into it then was intended.

For the most part the artists for series 7 only did one title for their sketches, but for example I've seen several different title/characters from Engstrom, and a handful of Simko's from these funpacks.  It throws a wrench into my collecting strategy for the series.

Personally, I wish Topps had destroyed the "extra" sketches (as horrible as that sounds, I know). It just kind of throws things off and makes for confusion.

Also in retrospect, I would really prefer if Topps had done the comic sketch cards as part of buying the comics. Maybe "buy 4 and get a sketch card". Would be incentive to buy the comics and perhaps spread them around, while keeping the collecting in order and preventing people from getting less-than-desirable previous series sketch cards, etc.

This whole thing has made collecting the sketch cards a bit backwards, and I'm not a big collector or anything.

And it basically means the eBay dealers who can throw big $$$ at Topps are the ones who get the sketch cards, post them on eBay, etc. Of course Topps gets the $$$, which is their bottom line, but it's feeling more and more like that's the only important thing...

I stand corrected, Neil does describe that there will be activities all month long starting with the comic which implies many other activities.  I guess it is unfair to hold Neil to being a Topps spokesperson as he does the best he can to keep us informed as Topps sure as hell doesn't do it.

Or just simply it... sell a comic alone for $10 (or whatever) and a comic with a sketch card for $45 (or whatever). No need to by three comics to get one sketch card, etc.

Scoot, that's a neat idea.  So a comic becomes a set, like postcards.  I'd think the only difficulty would be the number of sketches available.  Unlike a postcard set in which there are 100's of sketches, a comic is usually contains about 50 - 100.

Yep, I expected something else by now for "Wacky Month."  When the ANS10 binders failed to materialize for the April Fool's promotion, I figured that would be their next angle, but I guess not, and we're running out of April.  Of course, nothing is guaranteed, and I'm not going to get upset about not spending money RIGHT NOW.  I can wait, and I'd rather wait if it means the product will be better.

That being said, I am really looking forward to the next postcard set, whatever month it comes out.

Perhaps May will be "Wacky Month 2".

I know there has been no ANS10 binder so far, but will there be one? Does anyone know for sure?

Here's a First Annual Wacky Packages Day return sketch I plan to put on eBay.
Only the return cards could be in color as the actual comic book sketches all had to be black and white.

Minute Lice and Dr. Ono seem to have a morbid attraction to watching poor old Soremel getting devoured by the Run-A-Way monster... Mark, tell me about your childhood...

Sorry, Soremel, nothing personal. If you read the Wacky comic book it might make a little more sense.

I was born on a hot July day...
