I love the fact that I can read "Off the Mark" every day off of Facebook.  I enjoy it a lot. If you are on FB, you should become a fan of Mark's strip.

I saw that too.  I love being able to see Mark's new cartoons every day via Facebook.  It is a great noon-time chuckle for me.

Great news!
One of my bosses, Cate, who is a gene-jockey (a plant breeding scientist) just returned from a vacation to Austrailia, and I spoke to her this afternoon.
She told me there was a 18 month old child who cried the entire plane flight to Australia - so loud even earplugs didn't help much!
Choose you eternity is a GREAT line, and this is a wonderful cartoon. I often wonder about eternity . . .
Satan looks a bit stoned - almost wackyish - as he should be.   :D

He says it's cheaper than freeway billboards, airport hand-outs, and worldwide spam.

"No Drafting!" LOL!!  :D

Mark: Have to say I bought 6 sets of bio cards from Postcard Series 5 just to get your version of Wander Bread! Something about your work conveyed this perfect sense of wandering mischief in those slices of bread, and total exasperation on the part of the guy chasing them. Hilarious! One of my favorite Wackys.

P.S. If I had to pick one of those eternities, I'd go with the hot dogs. I'd probably never eat again, but it'd be better than the screaming babies!

I love that title too because it is almost exactly the gag I came up with years ago.  I had even discussed possibly having David Saunders sketch and paint this for me, I just never followed through.

Mark's Off the Mark strip recently done this week for August 23-28, 2010 another Wacky Packages week! The best ones Mark did for this week are Riskies (August 23), Sticky Peanut Butter (August 24), Ghost It Note Pads (August 25), Thing Thongs (August 27), and NyKrill (August 28).

Mark in his e-mail said Cornea (August 26) didn't make the cut for me.

While Mark Parisi's Off the Mark strip is planning another Wacky Packages week for November 2010, here's a recent funny Off the Mark Sunday strip though not Wacky Packages related but relates to a funny idea for credit cards and scanning with 4 strips instead of 1?

(http://s3.postimage.org/EKw_J.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/2apy1g7ic/)

Maybe for Wacky Packages ANS8 in 2011 there could be a Wacky Packages credit card take (maybe a spoof of the DISCOVER credit card calling it "DISCOVERED" credit card) with the 4 magnetic scan strips on the credit card??

Did you like the latest Off the Mark November 29-December 4, 2010 Wacky Packages week? These ones are the best in my opinion:

1) What's in a bag spoofing a Mexican chain:
(http://s4.postimage.org/2i2gvx06c/Picture_972.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/2i2gvx06c/)

2) Christmas related:
(http://s4.postimage.org/2i2ni2e5g/Picture_973.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/2i2ni2e5g/)

3) Belated Halloween related:
(http://s1.postimage.org/ni1e5mys/Picture_974.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/ni1e5mys/)
(Does the vampire kid on the Wacky Pack resemble Eddie Munster?)

4) And finally:
(http://s1.postimage.org/ni6crog4/Picture_975.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/ni6crog4/)
(Does this Colonel Sanders parody on the Wacky Pack look like a cross between the Colonel and a cyclops, and has a smile in the style of MAD Magazine's Alfred E. Newman?)

The ones from the week that didn't make the cut for me were the Snickers spoof (Slickers) and the Kleenex spoof (Grossnex).

I hope Mark Parisi does a few more Off the Mark Wacky Packages week strips in 2011.

Title: Re: Mark Parisi

It was my contribution to Team Cul De Sac. The concept is that cartoonists parody the comic, Cul De Sac, by the amazing Richard Thompson. The cartoons will then be assembled into a book and auctioned off to raise money for Parkinson's. Thompson has Parkinson's.

I went with "Cult" De Sac. Alice is the cult leader on her famous manhole cover... Petey is sacrificing Danders. I think it helps the more you know about the strip.

Lots and lots have done it. Some were done a individual pieces as opposed to being included in published strips. Bill Watterson even sent in a painting.

The August 15-20, 2011 Off the Mark strip had another Wacky Packages week, besides the unused for ANS8 drawing of Peepsi Cola seen in the main Wacky Packages ANS8 thread, the others in that week were Cheez-Itch (August 15), Bumble Beep (August 16 - Features an appearance of Wile E. Coyote on the Wacky Package), Tootsie Troll (August 18 - The troll reminded me of Miss Piggy from the Muppets), I Am dog food (August 19), and Cherios (August 20). All made the cut for me and on gocomics.com I added them to MY FAVORITE COMICS area.

I hope Mark does another Wacky Packages week in Off the Mark before 2011 is over.

Dude,

The Other day my sixth grade twins came home with a language arts quiz with YOUR "Off the Mark" cartoons on them in which they had to decide, based on the cartoon, what word it depicted based on the definition....I think one was "imply"?? they didn't do so well...I told them that I would get the latest MP cartoons so we could get a jump on the teacher who obviously is a BIG FAN!! So now your cartoons are molding the minds of kids...very nice...i will post a picture of the quiz if i get a chance...maybe I could get my kids xtra-credit by getting you to meet their teacher... :] :] :]

PS "You've infultrated the school system" - how Wacky is that????

I'd love to see the quiz. And I'd be happy to meet the your kids' teacher to get them extra credit... cute, young, female teacher, right?

Even though ANS9 won't be out for another 2 and a 1/2 months, this week's April 30-May 5, 2012 Off the Mark strips make up another Wacky Package week, here are the entries for that week below:

And, there may be another Off the Mark Wacky Packages week before 2012 is over.

Unaccepted by some but not ALL!

Sorry to be redundant, but 5 Hour Enemy is the funniest thing I’ve seen in a long time! All week I’ve been laughing at that gag, and it keeps on giving. I swear it deserves some type of trophy. In my book, this is one of those rare gems that doesn't come around often. I think someone at Topps was distracted and checking their phone when this concept passed over the editing table. OK, I’ve heaped enough burning coals upon your head.

I think they don't like when the package itself is alive. The original concept for 8 Up had a living can devouring the person but they asked me to change the gag so the can wasn't alive.

And now, recently on May 27, 2012 there's an Off the Mark Sunday strip featuring a Cul De Sac character appearance at the BETTY RUBBLE CENTER:

If anyone is interested, Heritage is auctioning off a lot of original cartoon art. Cartoonists donated their work in honor or Richard Thomas (Cul de Sac cartoonist and Parkinson's sufferer) to raise money for the Michael J. Fox Foundation. It's for a good cause and it looks like some of it could go very affordably.

Here's mine:

The October 15-20, 2012 Mark Parisi Off The Mark comic strip had Halloween leaning Wacky Packages drawings for the week, I posted 3 of them on the 2012 Wacky Halloween Postcards thread, one of them on the ANS9 thread, and now here are the other 2 for the week here. One spoofs Sunkist, the other spoofs a Hollister T-shirt (Mark told me in a e-mail that Hollister is a popular clothing line for teens):
(http://s18.postimage.org/cf8p205d1/003.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/cf8p205d1/)

I hope there's another Wacky Packages week in Off The Mark sometime in 2013 if not before 2012 is over.

And a final tidbit: The Howlester shirt that spoofs Hollister shirts could have been the 3rd. Wacky Packages T-shirt spoof joining 2 from the 1991 Wacky Packages series - Sick Tracy and Barf Wimpson.

Pretty cool! So you gave up art for tracing...LOL
I couldn't quite figure out what you were doing there. Are you copying them over for another project?

Thats not tracing, thats inking. Pencil sketch first, then ink over.  ;)

Are you sure? From the video it looked like tracing. I could be completely wrong though. I love Marks humor and I'm just making a feeble attempt at being funny. :]

I'm inking over the pencil drawing, not tracing. And I must have had stage fright as I usually draw faster than that.

One of my favorite paintings. Stunning. So much captured in a single snapshot of time - painted by hand - roughly 350 years before digital cameras were everywhere. Interesting how it conveys more than countless digital photos on the net.

The quickie information on Vermeer on Wikipedia is worth a look imo: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vermeer - check out that self-portrait (part of a painting) - eerie how it looks like a photograph - amazing work.

A big surprise for April Fools Day 2014! Remember the April 1, 1997 comic strip switcherooie? For April 1, 2014. Mark Parisi and Dan Thompson switched strips.

Mark Parisi did Dan Thompson's "Rip Haywire":
(http://s14.postimg.org/4tvko8oct/Rip_Haywire_April_Fools.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/4tvko8oct/)

And Dan Thompson (also works on "Brevity" and "Kidspot" seen on gocomics.com) did Mark's "Off The Mark" doing it "Family Circus" spoof style:
(http://s7.postimg.org/x45i2j70n/Off_the_Mark_April_Fools.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/x45i2j70n/)

Now if only Dan Thompson could start doing some possible Wacky Packages ANS and OLDS rough drawings and/or actual paintings...

Alex, we had a Goreo in ANS 11.  I must have submitted the idea just before Mark.  Originally my gag was based on Double Stuffed Oreo's and was called Brain Stuffed Goreos.  An interesting bit of trivia about the final painting is that someone at Topps thought it would be funny if the Zombie looked like Al Gore ('Gore'o get it!).  And that how the painting was done.

These are the Chinese Yin and Yang symbols. Wikipedia describes it better than I can as follows: "...apparently opposite or contrary forces are actually complementary, interconnected, and interdependent in the natural world, and how they give rise to each other as they interrelate to one another. Many tangible dualities (such as light and dark, fire and water, and male and female) are thought of as physical manifestations of the duality of yin and yang". Here is the image I most often see associated with Yin and Yang...

Also: I know Mark Parisi is all right despite the Boston/New England area getting a lot of record breaking snow with non stop snowstorms the last few weeks, but that won't stop on his work of possible entries for a planned 2015 Wacky Packages series (tentatively set for Summer 2015).

The Feb. 28, 2015 Mark Parisi Off the Mark strip features a Wacky Package take on a Cabbage Patch Kids doll (But it wouldn't make the 2015 Wacky Packages series CRAZY COLLECTIBLES subset, just like a rejected for the 1985 series Cabbage Patch Kids doll Wacky Packages entry called Garbage Pail Kids did and caused the inspiration for the Topps Garbage Pail Kids sticker series):

I know today's Off the Mark isn't Wacky Package related, but for a THROWBACK THURSDAY is a lost Mark Parisi done Off The Mark strip originally done in 1987 that I think never ran since the Off The Mark strip was launched in January 1987 (originally a weekly, then I think 7 days a week by the early 1990's)! I wonder if there will be more unearthed lost Off The Mark strips in the future (Though not reruns of past Off The Mark strips):

Non Wacky Pack related Off The Mark Throwback Thursday 1987 strip on August 27, 2015. This ties into former Let's Make a Deal host Monty Hall who turned 94 recently?

By the way, the current Let's Make a Deal hosted by Wayne Brady airs daily on CBS daytime and has been airing since 2009. And recently a digital subchannel network of classic game shows called BUZZR (I get it where I live on WPWR 50.4 plus on Comcast Digital Cable) now carries reruns of Monty Hall's 1970's Let's Make a Deal almost every day.

On Father's Day (June 19, 2016), Mark Parisi didn't do a Father's Day Off the Mark strip with his family's ideas (and an appearance by Billy of the Family Circus) like in the last couple of years. Even Mark pulled from gocomics.com and some papers recently a June 17, 2016 Off the Mark strip due to the event of an alligator/boy incident at Walt Disney World in Florida.

Well, You will still see occassionally Wacky Package drawings in the Mark Parisi Off the Mark strip, like this recent one from June 25, 2016:

This one, I saw tonight on a Psychology forum, takes the cake.

At least that one kept the attribution.
I had a business ethics class last year that included an off the mark on the last page of the PowerPoint, on the 'any questions?' Slide.
My question was "why are you using copyrighted material without attribution in a lesson on business ethics?"

Funny - my original question was going to be "What was the lame response?" but I thought maybe I was presuming too much, so I took the "lame" out.

I have a new middle-grade chapter book out with HarperCollins called Marty Pants.
I wanted to show the couple Wacky Packages influences. First, I designed the logo to emulate the way the letters in the Wacky Packages logo randomly overlap each other. Also included a Wackyish parody of Depends (Deepens).

That would be great!  I've ordered my copies.

Congrats again on your successful series!  My secretary's grandkids are anxiously awaiting this, as am I.

Update 2/12/18 - Received my order, and thought it was another great book, both story and illustrations.  My mom's reading it now, and enjoying it.  Tomorrow I'll give my secretary her copy, so I hope to have reviews from young readers in the near future.

Is "Do Not Open" in a second printing?  Hope so!

Thanks for your feedback! I tried to write the books so a kid or an adult could enjoy it.

Sales have been OK, not great. Certainly not good enough to have a second printing at this point. Unfortunately, the promotion for the books hasn't been that strong. I'm really proud of them and hope they can break through.

Reviews on Amazon are always appreciated!

For the March 9, 2018 OFF THE MARK strip, Mark Parisi did a Wacky Packages take on a vintage Beatles record album in memory of the late Mort Walker who created the Beetle Bailey comic strip:

(https://s9.postimg.org/dhp5cd1sr/Off_The_Mark.jpg) (https://postimg.org/image/dhp5cd1sr/)

(Now I wonder, will the next Wacky Packages Old School series (#7) ever do a Wacky Packages take on a vintage vinyl record album - Beatles or not? Maybe a Wacky Packages take on the Saturday Night Fever movie soundtrack for Old School 7 is possible)

An OS set based on 60's-70's vintage vinyl would be awesome, as would movie posters from the same era.  I remember liking the concept as used in the 'Silly CDs" release, but most of the music and artwork was less familiar to me and therefore didnt inspire the gut reaction that an iconic rock LP title would.

The June 22, 2019 Off the Mark strip features a Wacky Package take on the Jeopardy! board game (This would have been fitting for a 2nd. or 3rd. series for a 1990's Wacky Packages series not following up the 1991 revival series - We did get a Wheel of Fortune home game parody in the 1991 series as "Wheel of Torture"):

Mark, I sent you a PM but just thought I'd tell you here, too.

Off the Mark-et Series 1 was excellent! I really loved it! Thank you for sending it to me!

Like I said before, I can't wait for Series 2 (which probably won't be done for a few years, since you have to publish more parodies in the comic strip) and maybe even beyond!

Thanks so much! I really enjoyed putting it together. I have enough parodies for a second set but haven't figured out if I can afford it yet. The woman who gave me a discount at the printing place doesn't work there anymore!

Mark, I've got a question.

I know that Off the Mark-et Series 1 was made up of rejected Wackys, but what I'd like to know is do you happen to know which series that all of them were meant for?

They were meant for many different series. Some of them were submitted to multiple series.

Mark, I continue to run across your strips in unexpected places, which always brings a smile. I belong to a Facebook group for owners of smooth collies and this showed up shortly before Halloween:

The weirdest place my cartoons showed up this Halloween was Kim Basinger's house. She posted pictures on Instagram of my cartoons hanging up among knives, blood, spider webs, etc. Pretty surreal.

Mark, I've got one question.

How many series of Off the Market do you think will be done before you finally catch up with yourself?

Oh, and I'm still waiting for Off the Market Series Four!

On the Memorial Day (May 30, 2022) Mark Parisi drawn Off the Mark strip, it wasn't Wacky Package drawn style - but a funny take on the WEBER GRILL in time for the Summer barbecue season:

Not Mark Parisi Wacky related: This week the Mark Parisi Off the Mark strip was rerunning the December 5-10, 2016 week for the week of December 5, 10, 2022 because the GoComics.com site had an outage a week before Thanksgiving and so many cartoons owned by Andrews McMeel missed the deadline for the December 5-10, 2022 week.

No. The Roadrunner says "Meep-Meep!" in all of the cartoons, so Mark has presented an accurate representation.

Maybe it was supposed to be, but it always sounded like "Meep, meep!" The way the chorus to "Rock the Casbah" sounds like something different.
