Title: ANS8 Retail Tracking Thread
Post by: DrDeal on July 11, 2011, 01:56:51 PM
ANS8 will arrive soon according to other posts. I stopped by a Target store today and saw nothing mentioned in the "coming soon" flyers posted.  They did have some ANS7 for sale.

I bet we won't see them until some time in August, or even later

my nearby Target had Coming Soon flyers for stuff that came out back in June. They just don't update those things like they should at that place.

The ship date is 7/27 and I bet that's pretty accurate.  That doesn't mean the retail stores will have them then though.  Pre-orders may be in-hand the first week of August.  That's what I'm hoping for!

I just ordered through DACards. They list the 25th as the expected release date. There are so much coming out that it's getting tough to keep up. Hopefully there will be a few weeks between the next release. I can wait...LOL

Any info on chase cards' odds, etc.?

It appears as if Topps is planning on releasing the details prior to the release of the series.  Were around 2 weeks from the ship date and we still don't know the odds.  I emailed Topps CS twice asking when any info would be available and I got no response.

I asked the comic store owner to get me two boxes.  Other than that, I'm not ordering anything until I know the details.

On EBAY I saw someone selling "ad sheets" after looking at the sheets it said nothing about sketch cards, does anyone have any concrete information as to if there will be sketch cards with this set?

There will definitely be sketch cards, it's just a question of how many and at what pack odds.  They show some of the sketches in the NSU issue.

I called ShopTopps today and spoke to someone regarding when they expect to have ANS8 available in the online Topps store. This Friday the 22nd was the reply. I was told that they think 7-27 is when most OLD's will start getting their stock but they expect to have 24 Pack boxes available in the on-line store sometime Friday. I lobbied hard for a Free Shipping with purchase of 3 Boxes deal and was told they don't do that on wide release items but would consider the request. I expect these will hit Target Monday so I probably will not order them from the site if I have to pay full price plus shipping.

I thought it was 24 PACK boxes...not 48 pack?? is that what they said??

You are purchasing a New in factory sealed retail package - 1 - WACKY PACKAGES SERIES 8 HOBBY BOX!!!!!  24 Packs per box, 8 stickers per pack!  75 new stickers to collect!!!  Each pack contains 6 hilarious stickers, 1 parallel sticker, 1 special insert.

This is a Pre-Sale! The estimated release date is July 25, 2011! All orders will ship on the date of release!

You are correct. 24 pack boxes. I was thinking of Gravity Feeds but they said they will have regular boxes on the site. I edited my post to correct it.

usually just the code number on the packs and box.
with wackys, usually there is a folded up mini advertising poster in the hobby box that's not in the retail box.
I know with some other non-sport releases, there are actually different chase or bonus cards in the hobby box. nothing like that with wacky though

Made a special trip today to Walmart, Target, Five Below and Toys R Us. No ANS 8 here in S. Jersey yet.

I emptied a Target top-loader today in Milwaukee. They also had two bonus boxes! No blister packs. I wish I could open them, but I sliced my index finger to the bone tonight working with power tools. Went to the hospital to get some stitches and a tetnis (?) shot. My left arm is a bit out of commission for a day.

ANS8 gravity feeds at wal*mart in the Houston, TX area.
The local Target hadn't unpacked their Excel boxes, but the g-feed and bonus boxes were probably in there. I did find the 6-pack of erasers in the back of the store, but nothing else.

Lots of laughs opening these. Was four cards short on a base set. 3 Silvers, 4 tags, 4 magnets.

The top loader I emptied had only 3 complete base sets, but I got 8 of the magnets, 8 of the motion tags, all Pack To The Futures, and all Blu Ray spoofs. Plus....my first ANS gold foil! Inside my bonus box, I got another magnet that I needed. Are there two different bonus boxes hitting Target? The one I bought had the Maximum Security magazine B4 card. Not sure where the B5 bonus card comes from, but I have a feeling it's from Walmart. Our stores don't stock Wackies anymore, so I just bought one on eBay so I'm covered.

From Northern California:

I got two bonus boxes at target today .  They both contained the B4-Maximum Security bonus sticker.  The other bonus box must be at Wal-Mart.  Should be tougher to get as Wal-Mart card section is poor in this area.  No blisters found.  They had a full gravity box as well.

If someone get an extra B5, I would be willing to part with my extra B4.

Have fun with the hunt!!

This is what I was asking earlier in this thread. If TRU was going to have some exclusive ANS 8 item.

Found ANS 8 today 7-28 at Target and Walmart. Nothing at TRU.

Got a Target Bonus box, and about 20 loose packs. Didn't even get a full base set from all those cards and was surprisingly waaaaay short on 25,26,27,13 and 14. Did get 2 motions,2 silver foils, 4 magnets. I also noticed that the wrappers were practically falling apart when you carefully try to open them. They were super thin and very frail. Didn't like the 2 different subsets of pack to the future, and movies in the one series, the subsets are O.K., but not both in one series. Love the motions, but would like to see them back in regular card form, these luggage tags seem really thin and also frail. Pink borders I can take or leave. Can't wait to see the sketches surface. Also noticed that the die cut machine is on steriods - every card seems to have the die cut mark straight through to the backside of the card. Any further and they would be punch outs. Save that for the Olds 3 series!

I did notice some really good, well done art and gag titles, but enough on the repeats already. I know someone stated before that Topps wanted items that were popular and easily identifiable, but damn how many dunkin, capn', crusts, aquafina's, krispies do we need !! Please bend a little on this. Anyone with me here?

I agree about the subsets, would have preferred just the DVD set.  Very glad to see classic magnets!!  I like the tags, but they are just too flimsy, and those little punch outs are a pain - regular lents would have been preferable, IMO.  Odd to see two Dunkin' titles in the same set.  Still need to spend time really going over the stickers, leaving that for the weekend.

The reason for the TWO 'Dunkin' titles is probably because they went public this year - this week...how aprophe  :-\

Are you able to see the bonus card #'s by shaking them around, like usual?

Then where are they?
they are in the toys area that has action figures, rc vehicles, etc. Usually at the far end side of an aisle near the back wall of the store. one of the ends of an aisle will have mostly random blister packs. yu-gi, pokemon, gpk, wacky. At mine, at least, that's where they put the wacky cereal boxes and the 6-pack eraser blisters.

The two Targets by me are set up similarly, with the toys and extra cards at the far right of the store, past the electronics.  All I found there this week were the eraser blisters, but I'll be checking again next week for the ANS8 blisters.

Cleared out my local Target today. One 47 pack gravity and two bonus boxes. Also wanted to edit and add that Topps QC is pretty bad. From the gravity packs I bought about 75 to 85 cards were horribly cut. Most have parts of the next sticker on them and some the cardstock itself was off and cut mis shaped.

What I pulled;

Two or more full base sets.
All but one magnet
All but two bag tags
Many pink and common paralell

And from the first Bonus Box

Neil Camera Band-Ache Sketch.

It is the first Sketch I have pulled so I am pretty stoked. I will try and get a pic up tonight.

My target has collector cards in the front left, toys on the right with another section of collector cards, pain in the ass to check both places.  I bought two bonus boxes, left the entire gravity feed there untouched.  Maybe I will go back and buy a pack or two of the gravity feed at some point.  I didn't want to hog it as I want kids to have a chance to buy this stuff.

I am totally with you on getting tired of seeing the same old products spoofed.  I don't even consider myself a collector any more, I will snag the sets just to have them as I am tired of "bling" being over used for ring and the same ole products being spoofed.  Worse comes to worse, they should spoof stores or generic brands like Nike so the artists can really go wild and make up their own characters.

I like some products being done over repeatedly. Sometimes the later spoofs are better then the earlier spoofs. There are some products I'd like to see spoofed again in every series. I'd like to start an album with each page dedicated to one product and see how the label and gag style changes over time.

You think the actual product label and design of products is changing as often as wackys decide to parody them?  I don't have data but my intuition says this is wrong therefore Topps is parodying the same product, same design which is terribly boring.  The problem is they have too many titles in a set and hence have trapped themselves into needing to reuse products.

I agree that occasionally some later spoofs are better, but I still would like to see new Wackys of products that haven't been spoofed yet at all. Even at the risk of the item not being super recognizable. It's been said here before about the early 70's Wackys and many of us as kids did not even know the product being spoofed BUT still loved the Wacky's and thought they were funny anyway because of the great art and gags. I did not recognized some of Dave's Old School parody products, but still enjoyed them a lot and prefer to see that over a repeat of another Crest, Dunkin, etc.

Wacky Packs have been going for 40 years now. Don't you think I might possibly have been referring to changes over decades rather than from series to series? Anyway that was just a bonus reason for seeing repeating brands. The main reason was far more relevant. Sometimes later parodies are better than earlier ones. There's plenty of room for repeat labels and uncommon labels. In a series of 80 cards why can't we have both? What is the point of choosing one over the other?

Don't you think I might possibly be referring to ANS reusing products over and over again within the ANS run?  I certainly don't have issues with redoing a parody that was used in the original series.

I killed my Target box and got two magnets, a luggage tag, 2 future cards and a flash foil(I guess that was a good box eh?).

I am so ignorant on this colored border crap I don't even know if I have a gold foil or regular.  Depending on how I hold it, the foil flips back and forth in looking silver or gold.  Any help out there?  Are the two foil types hard to distinguish?

Too funny! I had that same problem  :D  You need to hold it at a certain angle so the sparkle goes away - then you should be able to see either silver or gold.

Regarding the "repeat" product parodies... I'd rather see a new take-off on a previously-parodied product than one on a product that I don't know. Product recognition has always been a big factor in my appreciation of a Wacky. The OS titles that I consider to be top-tier feature the most iconic brands.

The original series repeated brands within a relatively short span of time. From '73-'74 we had Poopsie, Burpsi, and Pupsi...

If you hit the silvers at certain angles they can look a little like the golds, but the golds don't look like silvers at any angle.  If you have any doubts it's probably a silver.  Side by side they look quite a bit different.  I actually like the look of the silvers better than the golds.

Took me 59 packs to complete one base set. Opening the 59th pack I finally got the last card I needed a Buzzerfinger.
I don't know if this is about average or not? 440 cards to get a 55 base run? Never really paid close attention to it before.

About the repeating titles, I do like Buzzerfinger, Hawaiin Pants, Livid Plumber, Chops Ahoy, Ballpoint Franks and Pop Aparts. That's quite a few considering the bitchin' I previously said, but it just seems to me when it is a repeat, and I do not like it, that the effort may have been better on a unused product. Also, the set does consist of a large amounts or repeated products. But - it is a very great job the artists have done and you cant help but like them when they are well done.

Among my fav.s are Trivial Lawsuit, Flunkables, Chef Boy U R Dum, Poo Poo Pets and Grenades and Ham.

I tried reviewing ebay and the scans of golds look crazily different from one to the next.  I am pretty sure I have a silver as golds could never look like silver so that helps me solve it.  These color borders suck.  My silver is up for grabs, I will trade it for basically anything of equal value.

Once is fine. Twice is pushy. So I was a bit sarcastic responding. Sorry about that. It wouldn't have played out that way if were were talking instead of typing. Got my 3 blisters today at Target. Easy to find B1,B2,B3. They were located away from the Gravity Feeds in the back section of the store near the toys on an endcap. Good pulls from those Blisters - with just 6 packs I got two Motions, 1 Magnet and  1 Silver Foil.

Hello, everyone…..  I am new to this forum, but not to this community.  Some of you long-time vets of the hobby might remember me as “geoffpam” or “geoffpam25” from over at Greg’s site.  It’s been a long time since I’ve checked out the community; in fact, I only just discovered a few days ago that Greg’s forum is pretty much dormant as I noticed no-one has posted there in months, or so it seems.

So, here I am.   ;D

Meanwhile, I have a question for you guys.  I see there is a LOT of chatter about the new 8th series.  I’m having a tough time navigating thru the many threads and hundreds of messages posted, so if I’m asking a question that’s already been answered, please forgive me.  But, I’m having trouble pinning down the current location of B5.  I’ve managed to figure out that the Bonus Box with B4 can be found at Target, which I just picked up last week.  And I guess I need to return to the Target to get the blister packs B1, B2, and B3 as well, (the store’s toy section had the end-cap card display temporarily down for a huge clearance sale last week when I picked up the B4 box, so if the store already had the blister packs, they were probably sitting in a pile somewhere in the back warehouse).

However, where is the B5?  I see that there are a lot of messages that suggest Wal-Mart is the location for the other Bonus Box, but no-one seems to have definitively confirmed this with a purchase.  Also, I distinctly remember having to get a Bonus Box for ANS7 from only K-Mart last go-around, so I don’t want to make any assumptions about ANS8 Bonus Box B5.

So, other than the Topps store, do any of you know FOR SURE where the B5 Bonus Box can be purchased?  The Ebayers that are trying to sell this box and/or the sticker are being deliberately vague about it.      Thanks!!

Yeah, there seems to be a lot of secrecy when it comes to the details about this series (until everything was released of course)

I was wondering the same thing today about the Bonus Box that contains the Oct card.

Been to Walmart and haven't seen any Bonus Boxes there yet. But it's still way early.

I am also wondering if it has been confirmed if there is a Hobby Box Poster for this series. No one on this forum has answered that question I posted a few days ago.

Wal-Mart, I'm quite sure.
While the B5 Bonus box may be available at WalMart; I would not hold your breath regarding actually finding
them there. While the 24 ct gravity feeds are somewhat attainable via WalMart the Bonus boxes are a different story. I have rarely seen one from a previous release in an NJ WalMart. I do not hold out much hope of finding one there so I ordered one from Card Gary. It was $15.00 shipped which is more than retail but at least I know its on the way. Now that I have taken this position I am confident I will see them in a WalMart tomorrow :)  Target's distribution runs rings around WalMart. I found the Bonus Boxes and Blisters right where it was psoted they would be in a Target. WalMart its totally hit or miss.

Yes, but take into account Tax, gas money and time. Breaks about the same. I also bought 1 from Cardgary. I dont think i've seen a bonus box at wal-mart since ANS 3 or 4.

Yesterday I noticed my Target finally got ANS8. Just the blister packs, in the back section of the store near the toys, on an end cap.

I have an unfounded notion that the packs in blisters don’t contain sketch cards.

Has anyone pulled a sketch card from a blister pack?

Everyone I've spoken to who have purchased Hobby boxes have NOT got a poster, so it appears there's no poster for this series.  It's seems like an oversight because how can they justify the additional $10.00/box?

Strictly speaking, a hobby box is designed and coded to be sold to specialty stores like comics and card stores. In the past, boxes included "point of sale" posters for the shop owners to tack up in their windows or whatnot. Not sure why ANS8 breaks this tradition.

Also, other card series sometimes have different chase items in hobby and retail boxes. A close example would be GPK ANS4, in which the hobby boxes contained sketch cards but the retail boxes did not.

I just got the binder in off eBay and it's as nice as the other ones. My only worry is the bubble pad around the binder will split at some time. My OLDS2 binder already split along the seam on back and I handle it really well. I think it coldnt take the pressure of all the cards in it.

a nearby Toy-R-Us finally got their wackys as well. same as you - 2 bonus boxes and 10 blisters.
I bought the 2 bonus boxes since I didn't have that one yet - but that's going to be it from them.
They're still jacking up their prices:  $5 for a blister and $12 for a bonus box
good luck with that guys.

I might go for the $12 bonus boxes, since it'll come to that with shipping from Topps.  I SO miss Lockwood!

I did finally pick up some bonus blisters at Target today, and so I'm now just missing the B5.  And now, I'm trying to decide if Cream of Tweet belongs in my cereal collection.  This set has really added to that collection!!

How am I just hearing about this today with an email from cardgary and it's seemingly been out for almost a month.

So, just to clarify what the topps store is selling, since it doesn't specify. Hobby boxes or retail boxes? And is there ANY difference this series other than price and numbering between the retail box and hobby box? No poster, better ratio of rare pull...?

If i were to suggest, i would say to grab all the bonus boxes and blisters that you can find. I am staying away from gravity feeds and boxes from ANYONE other than who i know. I dont think there are 2 different boxes this time. No poster, but there is a sell sheet W/checklist. If stats hold true, each pack is a 1:973 shot at a sketch. Golds a 1:353 chance. I opened 109 packs before i hit the lottery.  But i am still openeing ANS 7's, i am well over 1000 packs and, NO gold, NO auto, and NO sketch. So before anybody says  WOW lucky him, Ya, but not for real.

For the best details, check out ANS 8 master list thread.

Thanks, I'm thinking of buying just a single retail box from a well known guy on eBay since it's $10 cheaper than topps store, and since there's no known difference between the hobby or retail box.

I generally don't follow the multitude of gravity feeds, boxes, and blister variations, but today I saw something at Target I hadn't seen before, a 6 pack of Wacky Packages

(maybe a way for Excel to move old packs without devoting gravity feed space for them - save room for the Star Wars / Pokemon stuff...)

I think these were just swept up off the boxing room floor and put into blisters. I've seen them at my Target also 3000 miles away, which leeds me to believe that for years these were stepped on by workers untill someone fell in a deep pool of them and desided to drain it.

These would be better for Trick-or-Treat than the ANS8 flow packs I gave out - 2 extra stickers, and half the price.  Plus, the kids have a chance at an insert card.

Cool.  If this had been a couple years ago, I would be rushing out to the nearest Target and snagging up a few of these.  I really used to be into blister pack variations.  But as crackedjerk said, I'm at my limit with all this stuff now.  They've made it impossible to collect everything.  At one point I had every ANS unopened pack variation.  I stopped somewhere around ANS6.  I couldn't even keep up with those, let alone all the other stuff.

Toys R Us still had bonus boxes when I visited one in Albuquerque this past weekend.

As far as the repackaged stuff goes, I'll just say this: Nobody should be worrying themselves about trying to get every variation of those under the sun. All that stuff is, is unsold stock that the card distributors are trying to move, so they repackage it at a discounted rate. They do this all the time with every single trading card and sticker pack known to everyone.

I wouldn't worry about collecting any of the repackaged stuff because nobody is going to care about this in the years to come and it sure isn't going to make your collection less complete. Just concern yourself with the new releases and forget about anything that's repackaged, because it's nothing new.

I like collecting some of the repackaged stuff. For example the square cardboard packs, because they have nice graphics and display well. This one doesn't have much going for it - not even a Wacky or Topps logo.

I remember someone once telling me I was stupid for trying to collect the silly back variations like Ludlows.  He was probably right, but one thing I've learned is that completists are a unique group, and what we collect doesn't make sense to most.  I don't collect the packaging (except for wrappers) but if I did, I would want every variation that existed in Topps packaging!

I'm really glad too when I decided to set collecting parameters and stick to them because the post-2004 has been beyond our wildest dreams as far as volume of stuff to collect!

says $2.99 on the pack, but I'm sure a store like ToysRUs would charge whatever they want

Funny but true.  ;D >(
