Nice series guys! Love the monster cereals. Great colors this series. Especially love the blue on Ruffs. "Ask for them by name" :)
Neat to see a Jay Lynch this round. Also love the guy on Romaine - he cracks me up! Oh and I agree about Marigold Whip. That one is awesome. Love the glass rendering, and the woman is nicely done. The poster rocks!

I agree. It's great seeing Lynch involved he is an amazing talent that hasn't been fully untapped with any series until now. I can't wait to see other sketches that Jay came up with. I am very sincere in this request. I think other artists are only trying to be like Jay. He's the real deal! I will be totally honest I was really unhappy with the blue sketch lines on the sketches. He is such a great talent that it saddens me to see him not expressing himself. I was so happy to get one of his PC7 sketches. To me that was the highlight of my pulls. Totally awesome! I also got the Blue Beanie that Jay painted and words can't describe it. It's so amazing that you would want to frame it. It's totally amazing!

I know we've discussed this before but based on the quantity Jay did it would barely be possible for him to free sketch them all.  Do you think he could have done 3,000 sketches the normal way?, or would you have preferred that he did less sketches so he wouldn't have needed the outlines?

I'm not involved with negotiations but i would love for Lynch to express his creativity with OLDS2. he did the same sketches with olds1. All of the artists did very unique sketches. Yes, there are some the same but we are only taiking about 5-10 sketches and not 200 of the same sketches. Look at Parisi, I don't think he copied one sketch. Not One! Every one unique and funny as hell!

Each postcard sketch I did is different.  This is because I didn't have to do 200 each of the same character....coupled with the fact that the characters on the postcard sketches I did are all based on the characters I did on the postcards, and thus were fresh in my mind and I didn't have to look at 'em in order to know what they look like.

This is a great postcard set!  Cool to have the cereal trio all in one set.  Didn't get an order in for the regular set yet, so I'll have to wait until Tuesday to see Cap'n Clunk up close, but that looks fantastic, too.  I noticed that both Count Cluckula and Gloo Berry have Mushmallows/Mush Mallows.

I love Ruffs!  Those poor drippy dogs are awesome!  Romaine is hysterical, just full of great gags, along with a great painting.  I'll definitely be sending one of the postcards to a friend who I know uses it.  Old Spikes has a classic Wacky look and feel to it, which Jay is a master at.  So happy to finally have a larger size color Wacky of his!

Marigold Whip is beautifully painted!  That jar and lid are incredible, and the label is dead on.  Also nice to see a female as the sole character, and she's done with a great deal of detail, too.

You were in some crazy zone with these sketch cards! I wish we had had time to do a sketch card poster, because every one of yours deserves to be shown off! That's not to say that the other artists didn't do a great job, but there's something different about Jay's. Maybe I'll look into doing a belated release if there's enough interest...

I think the fact that you have an issue with it is fine but your not offering any alternative to the problem they had.  It's like the fans I hear on the radio call in because they want a starting pitcher they are frustrated with benched, and when the radio host asks who they would like to put in their spot that could do better the phone goes silent.

Well, the alternative is easy. Let him do what ever he wants like he did with PC7's. I would love to see all of Jay's sketches. I think Jay is a phenomenal talent that was wasted in OLDS2. I talk to other collectors when we get boxes in and we don't even discuss the Lynch sketches. In OLDS1 he at least did about 50 or so 'one offs' that people were excited to find. That is what was missing from OLDS2.

Great postcard set indeed!  I love cereal parodies, so was delighted to see Count Cluckula, Flabbenbelly (Great for Monstrous Appetites!) and Gloo Berry. And each a monster cereals for a one two punch.  Fantastic to see Jay as wacky as ever.  Ruffs has that classic look (and the snot actually makes sense in this case) and Romaine -- the guy's face says it all:  "Ta-Da!"  As several people have noted, the lid on Marigold is amazing.  And I love the gal, she looks like Heave's sister without the nausea. Who is the artist on this one?  Can't wait to see Cap'n Clunk in person and I'm hoping for a trade on a bio card for Pat Chaimuang. A new artist to the wacky fold and I'm curious.  Kudos to all the artists and thanks so much Neil for keeping the postcards coming and better than ever!!

You still seem to be missing the point.  Everyone agrees it would be better without the lines.  Thats not the issue.  Compare the quantities of Old School vs the postcard series.  It was my understanding that the lines were there to make it easier and quicker to do 3,000+ sketches.  How will letting him do whatever he wants make them go quicker?

I think Neil mentioned that they would be different.

What seem to be identical are the red envelopes, and since the regular sets come unsealed, they are actually nicer to save than the ones that had to be opened with the limited edition sets.

That's only for the non-limited sets.  You would need to buy 6 sets of the non-limited to get the full set of 3 cards.  Obviously they did this to sell more regular postcard sets, and it works!

Yep, they're the same. And I suppose there will be those sneaky, low down so & so's who try to pass off resealed LE packs as unopened. One thing I would suggest is, if you buy on the aftermarket, make sure that you get your set(s) from a reliable source (ie, a fellow forum member). And if you do buy from an online auction site, ask the seller if they received their set directly from Topps. They should be able to verify that info with a receipt.

It's interesting seeing the two versions of each title side-by-side.  I particularly like the mini-postcard version of Count Cluckula, something about the darker colors or the contrast makes it quite striking, and the little bird by the castle goes better with the theme because of the black accents.  With Flabbenbelly, I really like the character on the mini version, but the box color seems too close.  GlooBerry looks pretty good with the darker glue color on the front, but I don't care for the way it looks along the side of the box.

So, are these the color roughs?  I'd like to see more of them in a future set, but not for a little while - my wallet is getting a little light   :^)

I really dig the Postcard Minis. But I don't like the idea of having to buy 6 regular sets to get a complete set. I only need/want 1 set for my collection. I don't want 5 extra sets lying around my house. I feel like Topps made these available just to sell a bunch of extra postcard sets. I suppose I could use them, but who really sends postcards to anyone in this day and age. For me, it is a waste of money to buy 6 sets in order to get the mini set.

I suppose I could use them, but who really sends postcards to anyone in this day and age. For me, it is a waste of money to buy 6 sets in order to get the mini set.

Very well put Nez. I agree whole-heartedly. I only bought the 1 regular edition set for my collection. I'm resigned to probably not getting the Minis.

I agree as well.I don't even like to take part in such a blatant display of marketing B.S.

I'm interested in hearing what everyone thinks of the Postcard Minis, specifically the artwork. Would you like to see more of them in a future set?

I know some who have expressed the opinion before that they like to limit  their WP collections to the standard trading card
size items. So I think for the people who are so inclined, these mini-postcards are a plus. Although, they would probably prefer all 6 titles to be available and to be the same artwork as the larger counterparts. Personally, I like the idea of including each title in both formats in the Postcard series. But as cute as the mini postcards are, I am a bigger fan of the opposite trend... I would like to see OS and ANS titles released in the larger postcard format. My guilty pleasure wish for Wacky Packages 50th anniversary, would be to see the Original Series 1 through 16 titles re-released in a postcard format/size.

You should send Topps HQ a postcard with that message on it.

Got my cheap set today.  I have to say that Ruffs is probably my favorite.  Very classic style Wacky.  Very nice set.

So now that series 7 has been out a little while how do you rank the series overall relative to the previous series?  I like the sketch cards equally to the Halloween series, and maybe a tad more.  I think the actual postcards are at least as good if not better than prior series.  I also like series 5 a lot.

I really like that line too!  The entire gag is good.  But, something seems wrong about the box shape.  And, is it a 'broke' mess on purpose, instead of a 'broken' mess?

I think its intentional.  Word play for "breakfast"  I.e.  complete breakfast, incomplete Broke-Mess!

I think that's my favorite, too. "With Iron" is clever as well. Mark's tag lines are always funny and tie things together neatly and succinctly without going on and on too long not knowing when to stop and allow brevity to be the soul of wit, so to speak. I also really like Flabben Belly: the name and character are Wacky with a capital "W"!

I did several sketch cards that came with the series 7 sets that parodied classical works of art using the Old Spike characters.  None of them have turned up yet on this forum.  But for my last black and white return sketch card, I have again parodied another famous painting.    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260814138558

I like the Cap'n as well, but the final box looks a bit odd to me (the perspective narrows a bit too fast mb?). I enjoy being able to see the side and/or top of boxes if possible and love it when there is something on the side that adds to the gag -- it's like a bonus of some kind. My favorite example of this is the vintage 9th series G.I. Toe (http://www.wackypackages.org/stickers/9th_series/gitoe_small.html) (one of my favorite Wackys ever). The idea of giant toe with legs taking out a gorilla is so completely off-the-wall!!

I also like the fact that the Cap'n is saluting (a neat touch imo and makes him seem slightly crazy!), and the gears-as-shoulder-insignia is a great detail!

P.S.  I just noticed on the box side in your rough are the words Crush, Kill, and something else (Destroy mb?). That's the kind of extra detail I enjoy! :)
